Never had a bad experience with the home, staff, or management. My friend always seems happy whenever I see or speak to them. Staff are always happy to help and seem professional at all times. Good energy from the moment you walk in!

Staff extremely respectful to mother and her visitors. My mother feels looked after and as happy as she could be.

Thank you for your review.
It's nice to see how happy your mum is, especially once we assessed her further and moved her to a more suited environment.
It is so important to us that our residents are in an environment that is suited to their requirements and wishes.

Every time I see your mum, she has a big smile and is excited to tell me about her daily activities.

My father joined Oak Springs Care Home in July 2021, obviously a difficult time for everyone due to the Covid pandemic/restrictions. Initially, we found the care inconsistent for the first few months. I would telephone to ask that my father be washed/shaved/dressed every day, a reasonable family request. He was often in bed, probably too much as he has a catheter and requires movement to support/aid the bladder. Eventually, we have seen an improvement in his personal care. I still do have to request that he is in his chair, presentable for his visits. We are seeing a marked improvement now. Thank you.

I am sorry to hear that you felt the care was inconsistent at the beginning of your father's care. I will certainly look into the consistency of communication with new residents and families coming to live at Oak Springs.

However, I am pleased that you are now feeling...

My mum has only been in this care home a short while. So far I am very impressed with the care home and its facilities. The rooms are beautifully designed with ensuite bathrooms and very clean. The management went over and above in helping me to secure a place for my mum and I can't thank them enough.

My mum was a resident at Oak Springs for nearly four years. During that time while the care she received from individual staff members was often great, it seemed to us that the management consistently put profit above compassion when dealing with the residents. Though my mum was one of the longest-staying residents she could not remember ever having a chat with the management team or them showing any interest in her welfare. Indeed on a couple of occasions, it appeared to us that her welfare was of far lower priority than keeping up appearances.
When Mum died in August 2021 in her room at Oak Springs, no one from management contacted us until we ourselves wrote the following week to ask for more information about her death.

We would like to thank some of the individual carers who looked after Mum, but the management ethos needs to fundamentally change before Oak Springs will feel like a home.

Mum has lived in Oak Springs since November 2020. I was most concerned at first that she might not have liked it. I need not have worried. She loves it! She constantly praises the wonderful staff and says they could not be kinder or more attentive. I have met many of them and they are absolutely dedicated to every aspect of Mum's care and especially to making her life thoroughly enjoyable and full of fun! The amazing activities that are organised; singing, dancing, exercises, bingo, poetry and many more really stimulate the residents and give them so much pleasure. The staff are a delight to know and talk to and are always so reassuring about mum. I truly believe now that Oak Springs is the ideal place for mum to live.

I can't thank Oak Springs enough, they have gone above and beyond during the pandemic. The manager has ensured that we are always informed of the latest guidance; Oak Springs ensured that we had a Christmas Day in the visiting pod, we cannot thank you all enough. We had a hot chocolate and mince pie with Mum in the pod, we watched her open her gifts, we sang Christmas songs together, and we were presented with a Christmas photograph of Mum that was just a wonderful idea. Thank you to the manager and staff for always going the extra mile. Thank you for allowing cherished moments during this terrible pandemic, and most of all, thank you for your amazing ideas, and always putting our families at the front of what you do.

Reply from Andrea Lyon, Manager at Oak Springs Care Home

Mum came to Oak Springs on April 4th 2018. From the outset we were welcomed as a family. As I sit beside my lovely mummy on her death bed I am comforted that for two whole years, she has had the very best of dementia care. She has 'lived' with her dementia! And thank everyone on behalf of our family, from the manager to the carers, cooks, night staff I never met, laundry ladies, cleaners, reception, hairdresser; what an amazing team. We love you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My mum has lived at Oak Springs for 2 years and I can honestly say she has been so happy and well cared for. Sadly mum passed away due to illness. The care and compassion was a credit to them. The managers even brought her back from hospital to spend her final days with staff that she knew and loved.

Staff busy getting through assigned jobs. Too busy to spend with residents - only able because of time to instruct on the task they have requested eg, 'hold this, lift your foot' etc. Rarely observed talking with residents.

Reply from Andrea Lyon, Manager at Oak Springs Care Home

Thank you for your review. I have looked through the CCTV footage and do find that staff interact well with our residents, they are however very busy in the morning assisting residents with personal care, I notice that your visits are usually in the morning time. Staff do spend time with each resident interacting, however, I will observe more closely.

Our dad was only in the care home for a short while, but this did not alter the excellent care he received from the staff. The management, in particular, have gone out of their way to help and support our family at a very difficult time. They continue to do this even though he is no longer there.

At first, this home was fantastic, the girls on the first floor go above and beyond for the residents. The problem with this home is the management team. I cannot tell you what as a family we really think of them as its not that sort of forum but suffice to say if I knew that my mum would have been treated the way she was by the management team I would never have agreed to allow her to stay here. I really wish I could say more but I can't but sometimes silence speaks volumes.

Went to Liverpool to see my cousin who has been in there for about a year, and turned up unexpectedly. She was cheerful, nicely dressed, relaxed, comfortable and full of praise for the staff and the facilities she had. Although she cannot walk, she had been helped into a chair (I was very impressed with this), and she was chatting to the staff and other clients. She was grateful that her close relatives had taken the trouble to seek out this care home over some time and was delighted with her bedroom and routine.

I know that over the year there had been a few concerns about her health, and there had been referrals to hospital, but these had obviously been dealt with by the care staff of the home and certainly she was happy and well. It was also obvious that all the staff knew her personally and she was treated with dignity, respect and friendliness. I was very impressed.

I have no hesitation in recommending Oak Springs as a care home that provides all that is expected and more.
My brother has been a resident for nine months and has settled in well. He is cared for in a respectful and dignified way with the staff encouraging him to participate in activities etc.

His medical needs are attended to professionally and he is accompanied to any specialist appointments etc by a member of staff. I am informed regularly of any information relating to my brother, where it be good news or otherwise.

My 91-year-old mother has been in the home for just over three weeks following discharge from hospital where her mental state had taken a turn for the worse. I had my doubts whether she would ever get back to her old self but largely due to the excellent care, kindness and support given by all the staff, her improvement has been remarkable and she is smiling once more.
The home has a good feel to it the moment you walk through the door. This is helped by the fact it is a new build facility with plenty of light and air but most importantly by the dedication of the staff who obviously have many demands made on them due to the nature of dementia care.

The pre and post admission procedure was very well handled by both the manager and her assistant who did an assessment on my mother whilst she was in hospital.

The quality of care and the overall management of Royal Oak improved considerably over the two years of residency.
Many thanks go to all of the team, in particular, those who worked on the Dementia floor. Such a well run, positive and genuinely caring unit. They accepted my friend for who she was, helping her to share her character and be loved by those around her. Her last years, days and nights were lived to the full and her passing was treated with the utmost dignity and respect.

Many fond memories created and remembered forever xx
