Our mother was only at Fernhill for the final month of her life when she was approaching her end. She received outstanding care and kindness throughout from all of the staff, and her family will always be grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to leave this lovely review. Your kind words have been shared with the team. Thinking of all of you during this difficult time.
Fernhill House was the perfect choice of care home for my mum nearly five years ago when she first moved in. She felt as if she was staying in a luxury hotel and enjoyed a glass of sherry with her friends before lunch, loved the singing on a Sunday morning and always loved the meals. As she has grown frailer, both mentally and physically, she has always been content and has even recently told me how lovely everyone is and that she has nice neighbours. The staff have cared for Mum with real kindness and maintained her dignity throughout. They have also been very supportive and kind to family members.
I would like to thank you for your lovely feedback. I will feed this back to our team.
Until the day she passed away, My wife, Val's mother was a resident at Fernhill house. As POA, I looked after her affairs. The family cannot thank the staff at the home enough. It would be unfair to name individuals. But everyone from the management team, the office staff, receptionists, nursing staff, carers, chefs, and housekeeping, hope I haven't missed anyone, were all caring, sympathetic and so supportive. They all contributed to Mum feeling loved, nothing was ever too much effort to make her days so comfortable. The family cannot thank the home enough.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review, we really do appreciate it. We will ensure this is shared with our team and departments.
When we visited her the reception we received from the team was excellent, and always very welcoming. The home is immaculate. As a funeral director, I have visited many nursing homes, and Fernhill is definitely one of the best. Thank you for taking such great care of my wonderful aunt in her final months.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review. We are so thrilled that your aunt enjoyed her time with us here at Fernhill House. Your kind words have been shared with the team.
On my arrival, I was greeted politely and cheerfully, shown to where my friend was and offered refreshments. Nothing was too much trouble. All staff are friendly and approachable, working hard in a clean and tidy environment.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your lunch with your friend and we hope to welcome you back to Fernhill House soon!
You were all fantastic staff and so kind to us when she passed away.
Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. We are so pleased that your Great Aunt enjoyed her time here at Fernhill House. We are so sorry for your loss.
My husband was reluctant to come to Fernhill House but the two weeks respite has been a success. He loved the shower room, much better than at home! Everyone has been friendly and helpful and I have enjoyed some lovely meals as a visitor. Thank you to everyone at Fernhill House.
Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We are so thrilled that your husband enjoyed his stay. We hope to welcome you both back to Fernhill House soon.
My husband's mum went to Fernhill House Care Home for respite while we moved home. We have to say Fernhill House was outstanding in every way, very tastefully decorated and furnished throughout, very clean, all staff were very attentive and took great care of Mum, so much so, she requested to go and stay again when we go away. Mum loved all of her meals, 3-courses, every meal time served with whatever drink you wanted from water, pop even wine. We joined Mum for Sunday lunch during her stay, we had a little family dining area, and the food was excellent. Mum also enjoyed going to the cinema room there as well a film every afternoon with the sweets and popcorn cart in there. Mum rang very excitedly one evening to tell us what a lovely day she had as someone took some birds of prey in and they put a glove on her hand, and they flew straight onto her hand, then she finished her day with a gin and tonic at the bar, which they have there. We have nothing but praise for Fernhill House - everyone does an amazing job.
Seeing your mother-in-law with Henry the Owl on her arm was such a heartwarming moment for us all!
We are so thrilled that your mother-in-law enjoyed her stay with us, and we cannot wait to welcome her back soon.
The friendly, professional team have been looking after my mother for over a year now, and I can honestly say it’s a huge relief she is being cared for so well. Although confused with her deteriorating Alzheimer’s condition, emotionally she seems happy and content as the team keep her safe and entertained.
Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review, we really do appreciate it. Your Mother settled in so well and we are delighted that she is a resident here at Fernhill House.
Although it is extremely sad for my sister and I to watch our mother deteriorate with the awful dementia.
We could not wish for her to be in a better place.
We feel comfortable that she is being well looked after and the mental stimulation and entertainment provided is excellent. Mom has put weight on because the food is fabulous. The decor and cleanliness is superb.
There is a website which allows us to see live updates of what mom is doing and eating etc. Which makes us feel constantly connected.
Thank you for your kind words, we will share your review with the whole team here at Fernhill House. We are pleased that the relative gateway ensures that you feel connected and we are so thrilled that you find the stimulation, entertainment, food and care to be excellent!
I cannot thank the staff at Fernhill House enough for all they do for my mother-in-law. For her birthday this month, we had a wonderful family lunch, with fizz and cake and everyone made her day really special. The home is immaculate, and the food is delicious. The staff are caring, compassionate and professional. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review, you kind words have been shared with the team. We are so thrilled that you enjoyed your Mother-in-Law's Birthday lunch.
My husband went into Fernhill House Care Home after a fall at home, the in hospital for four weeks. The hospital; advised nursing home care (as I am 80). My daughter and I reviewed this beautiful home and decided it was best. It was the right decision. My husband has the best loving care until he passed away. I can't recommend it high enough. Thank you Fernhill House Care Home.
Thank you for your kind words. It was a real pleasure to meet you and care for your husband.
I've been a resident for 18 months. I'm settled and very happy here.
It is a pleasure to have you staying with us - thank you.
My mother-in-law who lives with us, went into Fernhill House Care Home for a period of respite in March 2022 while my husband and I were away. My mother-in-law gets very anxious when she is taken out of her normal environment. The staff could not have been any more welcoming and could not have made her feel any more comfortable. The attention my mother-in-law received relived any feelings of anxiety. When we fetched her, all the staff came out to say goodbye and invited her to pop in and have a coffee. The facilities lend themselves to feel like you in a hotel and not a care home. My mother-in-law remarked, that it was like being on a holiday herself. My mother-in-law would definitely like to go back to Fernhill House Care Home the next time my husband and I go away.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review. We are so thrilled that your mother-in-law enjoyed her stay with us and we look forward to welcoming her back soon!
We found Fernhill House for my Dad who was in hospital for 4 weeks, with dementia and very poor mobility. The day before he was transferred my Mum and I went to see Dad's room and took some of his familiar things, including some books of his interests. The day he arrived the staff sat with him, talking about the books and made him feel very comfortable after his traumatic 4-week hospital stay.
The staff did everything they could to ensure Dad was comfortable and content, encouraged him to eat and drink (and take his medication), and even wrapped him up in blankets to take him outside in a wheelchair for the Christmas event so he could see Santa and meet the alpacas. They even took him into the 'pub' for lunch a couple of times to encourage him to eat.
Sadly Dad passed away after only 12 days, but from the moment he arrived at Fernhill House, he was more relaxed and settled. We couldn't have wished for a more caring place for him to spend his last days. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review, Jan. Your kind words have been shared with the team. Thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Basic care needs are not being met for my grandmother. Dirty nails and teeth and every time we visit either her glasses, hearing aids, or both are not available so she cannot communicate with her family. This week my brother visited from Dublin with her great-grandchildren. They had not even considered charging her hearing aids to make sure her visit was fulfilling and her glasses were still lost. This is the fifth time of asking and no responses from the care home are given. The appearance of the home is very pleasant but the basics are overlooked. Nobody seems to care.

Sadly my Dad was discharged from hospital into Fernhill House, for end-of-life care, following a severe stroke. He was only at Fernhill House for a short time, but I cannot fault the care he received and the compassion that all the staff showed for him, myself and my family. This was a very difficult time for all concerned but I felt reassured that Dad was in the best possible place at this time. Thanks to all concerned.
Hope you and the rest of the family are well.
Thank you to all the staff at Fernhill who cared for my mother during her long stay. You have always been so compassionate and caring. You made Mum feel truly at home and happy under difficult circumstances. Thank you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review. We are so thrilled to hear that your Mother felt at home and happy. Your comments have been shared with the whole team here at Fernhill House.
Excellent care. Professional. Impressed with high levels of provision. During mum's stay, we were so happy with her care and attention she received was incredible. She enjoyed the food, entertainment and company provided by the care home during the lockdown. Staff assisted mum using Facetime and facilitated phone calls to her family. We were greatly reassured that Mum was in a fantastic caring professional place. Her room was lovely and she was always content when we spoke to her.
Thank you so much for this lovely review. We are so pleased to hear that you felt reassured and that the team provided excellent care. Your kind words have been shared with the whole team.
Fernhill is a wonderful setting, the facilities are excellent, all is very new and everything is in very good condition. The food is first class, the restaurant and bistro are lovely. Bedrooms are immaculate, and the ancillary services, hairdressing, nails and cinema are all like a top-end hotel. However, the best thing at Fernhill is the wonderful, caring, professional and dedicated staff. They cared so beautifully for our mother in the 18 months she was at Fernhill. She was treated magnificently and no one could have been kinder. We are so grateful, and always will be. She was cared for so well during her last months, by both the care staff and the medical team. The dignity of her death, and the love surrounding her, was all due to these wonderful people and we owe them a huge debt of gratitude. The excellent precautions and diligence regarding Covid-19 kept it well at bay, and I can only commend the staff and management team for their professionalism in this awful matter.
Thank you, Louisa, for taking the time to leave this lovely review. Your kind words mean so much and your comments have been shared with the rest of the team. We hope that you and the rest of the family are keeping well. x

Meet the Team (2)

Hello, my name is Drew, and I am the General Manager here at Fernhill House.
I have over 16 years of experience managing residential and nursing homes, and I am truly delighted to welcome you to our home. Fernhill House is set in beautiful surroundings with extensive grounds for everyone to enjoy, but what really makes it special is the life and warmth that our residents bring to it every day.
Life at Fernhill is all about comfort, connection, and joy. Imagine starting your day with a cup of tea in the Bistro, enjoying a stroll through our gardens, or taking part in a creative activity with friends. Perhaps later you’ll visit our screening room for a classic film or a favourite show, or join one of our lifestyle programmes or trips out in the minibus. Every detail, from 24-hour care to all meals and beverages, hair, beauty and chiropody, private physiotherapy, and daily laundry service, is designed to make life as enjoyable and worry-free as possible for our residents—and their families.
Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we see them as part of our extended family. I’m passionate about being hands-on and working alongside our amazing team because I know that when our staff feel happy, valued, and motivated, it creates a home full of warmth, laughter, and care.
At Fernhill, we want every resident to live a meaningful and independent life, surrounded by people who care deeply about their well-being. I hope that when you walk through our doors, you immediately feel the kindness, energy, and dedication that make Fernhill House truly feel like home.
I very much look forward to welcoming you soon, showing you around, and sharing the heart of life here at Fernhill House

Hi, I’m Becky, and I’m the Deputy Manager here at Fernhill House.
I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Fernhill family for the past eight years, starting as a care assistant and growing into my current role. Over that time, I’ve learned that every resident has a story to tell, and getting to know them—their past, their passions, and the little things that make them smile—is the most rewarding part of my work.
Throughout the day, I’m alongside our amazing team, making sure every resident’s individual needs and preferences are met, whether it’s offering a little extra support, celebrating a small achievement, or simply being there to listen. These personal connections are what make Fernhill House feel like a true home, not just a care facility.
By the afternoon, our residents might be enjoying a trip out in the minibus, taking part in a lifestyle programme, or catching up with friends over tea. Even the smallest moments—sharing stories, a hand to hold, or a smile in passing—are what make the day meaningful.
Being part of this team, helping residents live with independence, dignity, and happiness, is an honour. Every day is full of connection, care, and warmth, and seeing residents thrive is what inspires me to give my very best. Fernhill House is more than a home—it’s a place where stories are shared, memories are made, and people truly feel valued.
