I am extremely grateful for the wonderful care that my Nan received during her short stay (3.5 months) at Fernhill House. I honestly believe there is nowhere else I would have preferred her to be. In addition to the dedicated care and support given to Nan, the staff we very attentive and supportive to all of our family too. It really is such a beautiful care home with a fantastic team within it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review. Your kind words mean such a lot and they have been shared with the team.
I wish to thank everyone at Fernhill House for looking after me so well during my recent time in respite there. I found all the staff very kind; sensitive to my needs and concerned for my wellbeing. I was treated with dignity and respect. I also enjoyed my vegetarian meals. A big thank you and I look forward to my next visit.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us and we cannot wait to welcome you back to Fernhill House soon.
I wish to thank everyone for looking after my husband so well during his recent stay for respite. It meant a great deal to me knowing he was well settled, very much appreciated, and he liked the staff and enjoyed his vegetarian meals. When I visited, he was always in good spirits and cheerful and well cared for. Thank you also for being so supportive to me. All much appreciated.

My father had been settled in Fernhill House for the first 6 weeks but after that things seemed to change. He has Alzheimer's and dementia and likes to wander as well as needing constant reminders to use the toilet. We were then advised he could not stay there and within a week, with little consultation (I accept it is difficult because of COVID) he was moved out. They advertise as a dementia placement but we as a family feel that they could not cope with our father.
It was lovely to have welcomed your father to join us for an agreed short term stay.
Throughout his time with us, I know our specialist and highly knowledgeable Dementia care team were...
When we were looking for a dementia care home for a very dear friend near to where we live, we visited quite a number of homes in the area. The first impression when entering a care home is always important as there are plenty that as soon as you enter you cannot wait to leave, but if you are a visitor and walk into Fernhill House, the atmosphere is fabulous with a lot of attention to detail for residents as well as visitors. The dementia wing on the first floor is just as welcoming. My friend spent just over one year as she passed away this week but she had a fabulous room and ensuite. Food was excellent and we also dined with her on occasion. Staff are very caring and attentive to all issues. Throughout this Covid 19 crisis the home was locked down well in advance and we were kept informed about her daily care via a portal on the website. We have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous place and thank the staff for looking after my friend and allowing me to be with her at the end.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. x
We’re so pleased for our mum to be at Fernhill House, it’s such a lovely place. The staff are so lovely and the dedication to the residents is second to none. Everyone has been very accommodating and very helpful. During COVID-19 the online gateway has been a wonderful tool for us to see how Mum has been getting on, we are so grateful to have this information at our fingertips. It gives us a great sense of comfort and reassurance. As well as being a beautiful place, it’s clear to see the residents are at the heart of what they do. We can’t thank them enough for their support.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. Your kind words mean so much to the team. We are so pleased that you have found the relative gateway comforting and reassuring during this difficult time.
My 87 year old grandmother has Alzheimer's and has been a resident at Fernhill House since last summer. The care and attention she receives at Fernhill house is exceptional. The staff are very attentive and sensitive to her needs and I think my family would agree with me that we have absolutely no regrets choosing Fernhill House to care for our grandmother. We recently had a lunch at Fernhill House with my grandmother to celebrate my wedding as she was not able to travel to be with us on the day itself. It was a super occasion made very special by the wonderful staff and a memory which I shall cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments - your grandmother is a delight to look after and we can't wait until we can see you all again!
Mum has Alzheimer's but is alert and fully mobile and used to a very active life. Other care homes provide a safe space for residents but lack the staff to devote one-to-one time to provide stimulating activities to fill the day.
Fernhill House does have enough staff to do that; who are kind and gentle with the residents, but know just how to interact in the best way for each person.
Fernhill House also attracts volunteers, like the "wonderful Scotsman" who comes in once or twice a week to play the piano to residents for hours, and the therapy dog and handler who visit and let residents pet the dog. The newly-purpose-built building is furnished to the highest standard and warmly welcomes family and friends to visit residents.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review Derek. Your kind words really do mean a lot and your feedback has been shared with the team.
Staff are excellent, always polite, caring and extremely loving. Dad couldn't wish to be in better hands. Any concerns are always dealt with efficiently and promptly. I am kept fully informed of Dad's care needs. Staff will give of their time and have gone over and beyond during a recent bereavement, making sure that Dad had all the time to grieve, but also making sure that he is supported.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us this lovely review. Your kind words will be shared with the team - it means a lot to us all.
My 87-year-old mother has been living in the dementia community for six months, previously living independently at home, with carers support. The staff have all helped her to settle and take part in the full life offered by Fernhill House. She is very happy and wonderfully cared for physically, medically and emotionally as required. All staff are friendly and caring to mum and her visitors. Her physical surroundings in Fernhill House are excellent and well maintained. We are very pleased indeed with our experience at Fernhill House. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the lovely review...we are so happy with how mum has settled in and that you are pleased with her care.
Anyway, that was over a year ago now and we have been completely happy that she moved to Fernhill and she is really happy there. The care staff are wonderful to her, the management are first class and the activities done on a daily basis really occupy and entertain my mother-in-law who was really quite lonely living on her own before her health forced her to move into care.
We highly recommend the home to anyone who wants their loved ones to be happy and well looked after.
Thank you for your lovely comments Chris - it's a pleasure to have you all as part of our Fernhill family.
I found the staff across all grades could not be kinder. It is like a 4-star hotel.
Thank you for your lovely review, it's a pleasure to care for your wife and you are both very much a part of our Fernhill family.
My father was sadly there for too short a time, for palliative care. The whole family were treated as clients with utmost respect and kindness. No one could ever ask for a more peaceful, caring end to life or support for the family too.
The staff go over and above on their care for the residents - care for the whole person, not just physical needs. They have had a wish tree where residents can ‘wish for’ something outside the usual activities. My mother wished to go back to China where she’d lived and visited. That’s obviously not possible so China came to Fernhill House where 2 members of staff organised Chinese food to be bought in AND a Chinese dragon to entertain all the residents! It was amazing!! Thank you to everyone. She was thrilled!
Thank you so much for the lovely review - we were thrilled to be able to make this wish come true and your mother's surprised reaction made it all worthwhile.
As a family, we were able to relax knowing that our relative was sp well cared for. The staff are happy and obliging, patient beyond belief and really keen to get to know each resident.
Thank you for such a wonderful review of Fernhill House. Feedback is important to us as we are always striving to improve upon the service which we provide to our residents and their family and friends. To receive such a positive review is very pleasing for the whole team.

My stay was really good. Staff and management were excellent. I really enjoyed my time here and feel much better for my stay.
It was a pleasure to meet you and we are all delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. Please drop by for coffee and cake when you have time.
Regards.
My mother has not experienced respite care before and was very nervous. She ended up really enjoying her stay and left feeling much more refreshed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
Thank you for sending in such a wonderful review of our home. Feedback from residents and their family members is invaluable to us and to receive such positive comments is very pleasing.

I went to Fernhill House after a hip operation for 2 weeks. It was excellent. All staff were great, friendly and happy. Great management team. The best thing I have done in years. Cannot praise them enough.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review of Fernhill House. I will pass on your comments to our team. Hope the recovery is going well!

The care, attention to detail and concern for the overall well being of their residents is nothing short of exemplary. This starts with senior management and cascades through the rest of the staff. I cannot recommend this care home more highly.
Many thanks for your kind words about Fernhill House and our dedicated team. It is always good to receive comments from someone close to the home.

Mike DearnHome Manager.
My mom was moved to this home recently, the care she is now receiving is amazing. All of the team are so caring and helpful and all do it with lovely smiles. The activities are fabulous. Not seen my mom so happy for a long time - thank you. And it all starts at the front door.
What a lovely review of our home, thank you. The team at Fernhill are very committed to providing excellent care and they will be so pleased to read your review.
Thanks again,
Regards

Meet the Team (2)

Hello, my name is Drew, and I am the General Manager here at Fernhill House.
I have over 16 years of experience managing residential and nursing homes, and I am truly delighted to welcome you to our home. Fernhill House is set in beautiful surroundings with extensive grounds for everyone to enjoy, but what really makes it special is the life and warmth that our residents bring to it every day.
Life at Fernhill is all about comfort, connection, and joy. Imagine starting your day with a cup of tea in the Bistro, enjoying a stroll through our gardens, or taking part in a creative activity with friends. Perhaps later you’ll visit our screening room for a classic film or a favourite show, or join one of our lifestyle programmes or trips out in the minibus. Every detail, from 24-hour care to all meals and beverages, hair, beauty and chiropody, private physiotherapy, and daily laundry service, is designed to make life as enjoyable and worry-free as possible for our residents—and their families.
Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we see them as part of our extended family. I’m passionate about being hands-on and working alongside our amazing team because I know that when our staff feel happy, valued, and motivated, it creates a home full of warmth, laughter, and care.
At Fernhill, we want every resident to live a meaningful and independent life, surrounded by people who care deeply about their well-being. I hope that when you walk through our doors, you immediately feel the kindness, energy, and dedication that make Fernhill House truly feel like home.
I very much look forward to welcoming you soon, showing you around, and sharing the heart of life here at Fernhill House

Hi, I’m Becky, and I’m the Deputy Manager here at Fernhill House.
I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Fernhill family for the past eight years, starting as a care assistant and growing into my current role. Over that time, I’ve learned that every resident has a story to tell, and getting to know them—their past, their passions, and the little things that make them smile—is the most rewarding part of my work.
Throughout the day, I’m alongside our amazing team, making sure every resident’s individual needs and preferences are met, whether it’s offering a little extra support, celebrating a small achievement, or simply being there to listen. These personal connections are what make Fernhill House feel like a true home, not just a care facility.
By the afternoon, our residents might be enjoying a trip out in the minibus, taking part in a lifestyle programme, or catching up with friends over tea. Even the smallest moments—sharing stories, a hand to hold, or a smile in passing—are what make the day meaningful.
Being part of this team, helping residents live with independence, dignity, and happiness, is an honour. Every day is full of connection, care, and warmth, and seeing residents thrive is what inspires me to give my very best. Fernhill House is more than a home—it’s a place where stories are shared, memories are made, and people truly feel valued.
