I will always be thankful to have got my husband into Kingsclear Nursing home. Staff, management on all levels cared and treated him with dignity, love and respect. This level of care was also extended to me. He loved the team looking after him and was appreciative on all levels of care. Kingsclear team members in my opinion showed professional, dedicated teamwork. They delivered compassionate care at every stage. The stress free approach allowed my husband to enter his end of life care knowing he was loved by all.

Overall Experience
My husband, Gerald is currently in KingsClear and from the first week he has improved enormously. This is due to the care and high performance of the staff who are aware at all times of the needs and whereabouts of the residents. The social layout of the care-home itself with dining rooms/lounges including outside verandas with seating in the shade on each floor gives the residents room to socialise and not spend 24/7 in their room. Also the lovely gardens at the rear with easy access. Like many care homes there are regular activities and social events which residents are encouraged but not forced to attend.

I would highly recommend KingsClear Care Home.

After two spells of respite my mother became a permanent resident of Kingsclear after the death of her husband. She has benefited hugely from the constant care and attention given by the staff, no matter what role they have at the nursing home. The atmosphere is always calm, the rooms are kept clean and family members and friends are always made welcome!

We had to make a quick decision back in December to place my mother-in-law in a dementia care home. Since being at Kingsclear we have been really happy with the care. Kerry and the dementia team are fabulous, caring, supportive and kind to Janet and also all of us. Rob and his team have always made us feel like no problem is too small. This really is a lovely place to have a loved one.

Such a welcoming atmosphere. As soon as you step in to the home, there is a lovely smile from the reception lady. She then took me to find my friend. Showing me around en route. I worked here in the late 1970s as a girl guide volunteer and again 1980 prior to training as a nurse. All the staff seemed so happy, friendly. A really lovely atmosphere and so different from some homes I've worked in. I was able to get refreshments for me and my friend and we had a lovely afternoon sat in the garden. I'd really recommend this lovely home to anyone looking for a short or long erm break.

PLUMBING: Cold Tap broken in the food service area. Dirty plates and cutlery left for ages in the sink
Taps in my husbands bathroom too small for the basin. Bathroom not checked frequently enough CLEANLINESS: .Urine left on the floor. Floor is not cleaned properly shoes stick to the surface when walking across it. Hence strong smell of urine.
HEATING: No air conditioning, in the room, difficulty leaving the patio windows open. Resident lays in blazing hot sun without the curtains being pulled for shade.
During the hottest of days no ice cold drinks, ice lollies were offered.
MEALS: Food is terribly wasted. My husband who requires a little help e.g. needs explaination as to what is on his plate and some help with his cutlery is not given. Home care's cutlery large and cumbersome. Water jugs are not changed frequently.
LAUNDRY: Towels are not always available in the bathroom. Paper Towel holder not always filled. The flat sheets slip off showing the bare mattress.

SUMMARY: Sadly residents are left for ages and communication is poor between the different teams.

A very well-run care home, where the staff actually seem to have the residents' best interests at heart. The place is kept spotlessly clean, and the catering is exceptionally good. I moved Mum to this home from another and am very glad I did.

The place is spotless, bright and welcoming. Sadly, the only negative thing is the very strong smell of urine in the corridor on floor one when you exit the lifts. I have visited 3 times and it has 'presented' every time.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate you raising this concern with us. Our housekeeping team are very thorough and carry out regular deep cleaning, including weekly carpet cleaning, however, this is a clearly an issue that needs to be addressed. I am very impressed with the activities on offer. They are varied and interesting. I like that there are many visitors, for example, singers, dancers who are very professional and fun. My dad has just benefited from a second stay at Kingsclear. He last stayed for a week's respite in July and this time it was very last minute as we had a family medical emergency and so needed him to be cared for at short notice. The manager responded very quickly to our request and my dad was very happy to have another stay at Kingsclear. The staff were so welcoming and my dad was amazed and delighted that so many of the staff remembered him!
As a family, we felt very happy knowing that all his needs were met. He has Parkinson's and has quite a regime of medication but this was all dealt with very professionally by a particular staff member. My dad loves his food and had nothing but praise for all his meals and we, as a family, felt that the refreshment station provided in reception was a lovely touch and made it more like meeting in a coffee shop, than a facility!

Kingsclear is a lovely place with great grounds and kind and caring staff!

Robert Cook
Robert CookJob Title:Home Manager

I’ve worked in care since I was 18 when I started as a domiciliary carer and stayed in this form of care for over 8 years where I progressed through various roles including supervisor and management roles. Within this time, I also passed my Level 5 in Health and Social Care Management.

In 2020, I joined Kingsclear as the Dementia Unit Manager, before being promoted to Deputy Manager and am now proud to be Home Manager. All roles have given me the opportunity to offer stability to the people living in our community and my colleagues.

I enjoy my daily walk-arounds and getting the opportunity to see and chat with our residents, seeing them smile and make new friends. The local area is lovely and it is important to us that our home is part of the local community. We always look forward to going out and welcoming the community into our home.
