My parents have both been in the care home for a few years now and we have been very pleased with the care and support they have both received but even more so yesterday when my father passed away. The nurses and staff were absolutely amazing! So very kind, caring, and considerate to my father, and
even though he wasn't conscious they were talking to him telling him what they were doing, and being very gentle with him. They were also so kind and supportive to us siblings and even more so once my father passed.
Their compassion was very touching and I couldn't have wished for my father to have been in any better care. So a big thank you to all who were involved, you brought light to our very dark day.

Since moving my Mother-in-law to Kingsclear her life has changed dramatically. Before, she would not be encouraged to leave her bed or take part in any activities. The staff didn't really even get to know her as a person. Within 3 days of being at Kingsclear she has had a shower, taken part in arts
and crafts, made lots of new friends and has a new lease of life. The staff has been absolutely amazing. All so friendly and genuinely lovely. She hasn't once mentioned her old flat (which used to be daily before). I can't thank everyone enough for all they have done, even just in the last two months. The food is also delicious!
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at KingsclearThank you so much for your wonderful review, the transformation we've seen in your mother-in-law is so inspiring and we're honoured to have helped her to gain a new lease of life. We're sorry that she had a tough time with her previous care provider but delighted that she's now happy at Kingsclear, enjoying lots of activities and making new friends! We really appreciate your kind words about our team and the love and care they dedicate to their roles - we're so proud of them and the impact they've had on our residents' lives. We can't tell you how much this feedback means to us - our team will be touched to hear your lovely comments!

My elderly mother was very poorly and went into Kingsclear initially for respite. She was made to feel very welcome by all the staff, so much so, she decided to stay. She has a beautiful room, the carers are amazing and the food is so good, that she has put on some weight at last. The fee is standard
for this area, but Kingsclear beats the competition with the extras they lay on such as the activities and the bistro. As a relative, we are also welcomed into the fold by staff and residents alike. My mother is very happy there and the stress of worrying if she is ok on a daily basis has been alleviated. As a family, we are all extremely happy with the whole package and would not hesitate to recommend them.

It was difficult to keep track of meal times because of shift changes and different methods of communication. I found the medical staff seemed to be more interested in complying with rules and regulations than practical matters and there was a lack of coordination among these members. The exception
was the nurse who cleared a blockage in my catheter, although I was unable to establish whether she was staff or agency.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at KingsclearThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We pride ourselves on the resident experience and we are always looking to improve the services we offer. We have recently implemented a new welcome pack for our residents to further strengthen our communication and we are constantly reviewing our admission journey to ensure a smooth transition for the people in our care. I can't express how pleased and grateful we are as a family to have been able to get my husband into Kingsclear. At first, we weren't sure if they had space or could satisfy his complex needs. We needn't have worried! He is content, fairly happy (he has dementia so it does impact that), so well looked
after and well fed! He is safe which is so reassuring. He has an abundance of activities etc, which he is encouraged to join in.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at KingsclearThank you for your amazing review, Jan! A close family friend moved into Kingsclear at the end of last year. She was really reluctant about the idea of moving into a home to start with. However the management were helpful and reassuring that she is going to be in good hands. And she is!
Over the months that she has been there, I have noticed
that she has become a lot happier, despite all the age-related challenges. She has become more social and even made new friends!
The overall atmosphere feels great and there are different activities available each day. My friend has only said positive things about the home, staff and food!

Kingsclear as a whole is a beautiful care home, the staff are very polite and caring. My mum is on the middle floor, with more and more residents requiring assistance when it comes to breakfast, lunch or dinner time more staff should be on hand. I also find that some of the some of the agency staff
can be a bit lapsy daisy whilst the normal staff are running around trying to do two things at once.

Kingsclear is a beautiful home. Service user tells me carers are good though don't always spend the time assisting in personal hygiene. Carers do not always listen when asked to cut food so struggled when eating.
Home activities can be repetitive and difficult to access unaided, though enjoys the singers.

When visiting my aunt at Kingsclear my aunty who had dementia became distressed when she couldn't find her glasses. She had misplaced them previously but was always checking they were in her trusted bag. As she became more anxious I asked a member of staff if we could borrow a pair from their lost property
to prevent the situation from escalating. I was surprised when I was told this is not something that is done at Kingsclear. As a result, my aunt became upset and distressed in a situation I feel could have been avoided. There was no offer of advice or to check she was ok. It didn't help that when I arrived and asked if I could sit with my aunt in the dining room where she was sitting, the staff in the dining room told me she was not in there. I pointed out she was sitting at a table in front of them.
Reply from Home Manager at KingsclearThank you for your feedback. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.811)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.811) out of 10 for Kingsclear is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.811 for Kingsclear is calculated as follows: ( (331 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 366 Ratings = 4.811
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kingsclear is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 97 registered maximum number of service users is 19.4, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’ve worked in care since I was 18 when I started as a domiciliary carer and stayed in this form of care for over 8 years where I progressed through various roles including supervisor and management roles. Within this time, I also passed my Level 5 in Health and Social Care Management.

In 2020, I joined Kingsclear as the Dementia Unit Manager, before being promoted to Deputy Manager and am now proud to be Home Manager. All roles have given me the opportunity to offer stability to the people living in our community and my colleagues.

I enjoy my daily walk-arounds and getting the opportunity to see and chat with our residents, seeing them smile and make new friends. The local area is lovely and it is important to us that our home is part of the local community. We always look forward to going out and welcoming the community into our home.
