Visiting

  • A warm welcome to this ‘CQC Outstanding’ home. Grace Care Centre is located in the historic market town of Thornbury in South Gloucestershire. Nestled in picturesque woodland and fields whilst also being conveniently placed to access to the town centre. If visiting a resident, the care home is well-placed, so you could combine a visit the famous Thornbury Castle and follow up with a lunch or café visit in town. The home welcomes visits from relatives and friends. While specific “open-visiting” hours are not rigidly published, the ethos supports flexible visiting. Visitors may join residents for meals if desired — letting the home know in advance is courteous and please be aware of protected meal service times (when dining rooms are at their busiest) so as to maintain calm and dignity for residents. Driving Instructions from Main Roads • From the M5 (via J14 / Falfield / Alveston) • Exit the M5 at Junction 14 (for Falfield / Alveston) and follow the A38 toward Thornbury. • Continue on the A38 until you reach the turn for Thornbury. • Follow signs into Thornbury and then onto Whitebridge Gardens (BS35 2FR). • Enter the estate and follow signs to Grace Care Centre. • From the A470 / A4018 (Bristol direction) • If coming via Bristol, take the A4018 / A38 toward Thornbury. • As you approach Thornbury, follow signage for the Whitebridge Gardens area. • Turn into Whitebridge Gardens (BS35 2FR) and drive to the home. • From the A432 / Yate / Chipping Sodbury route • Travel on the A432 toward Thornbury. • Once near Thornbury, follow local signage toward Whitebridge Gardens. • On arriving at Whitebridge Gardens, follow drive into the home entrance. When using sat-nav, enter “BS35 2FR” (Grace Care Centre) follow the sign-posted route into Whitebridge Gardens, Thornbury .

Parking

  • Visitors arriving by car should use the on-site parking/drop-off area at Grace Care Centre. If there is not an available spot or if in doubt come in the speak to the reception team. Limited parking availability exists outside the main carpark whilst other parking options are available close by. Please allow extra time for parking in the town if the nearby roads are busy; early arrival is beneficial if you plan to visit the town centre afterwards. On arrival, report to reception and the team will assist you to the resident’s lounge or the resident’s private room.

My mum's health and well-being have been transformed by Grace Care Centre. Living in a place where she receives amazing care and good food, took her from a bad place to a new stage in her life where she can regularly be with family again. I would sum up Grace Care Centre as welcoming, kind, safe and caring.

My husband spent a week's respite here. We chose the home because it was clean, light and spacious and had a welcoming and calm atmosphere. My husband was well cared for, he was always content when I saw him. The staff were cheerful and caring and kept in touch. The food was freshly cooked and nourishing and dietary requirements were catered for.

Reply from Phillip McAllister, Customer Relations Manager at Grace Care Centre
Thank you for your kind words, we appreciate them, this means a lot to our team. It was a pleasure and a joy to be able to look after your husband for his respite.

It was an absolute pleasure to get to know both of you!

Very pleased with my week's respite care. All of the staff were competent and nothing was any trouble. The catering deserves a special mention. The food was like a five-star hotel.

Despite all the challenges of Covid the staff managed to make Mum's move to Grace Care Centre go smoothly. Her initial respite stay of 3 weeks was extended to 5 weeks, as her permanent home had Covid and while initially reluctant to move to a care home, Mum ended by being very sad to leave. The kindness of the staff and attention to detail was exemplary.

I visited the Grace Care Centre to visit an elderly friend. The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. They showed real regard for my elderly friend and he, in turn, knew all their names. He is always full of praise for the care and kindness he receives.

Staff seem very considerate towards residents and are always polite to visitors. Management personnel are always ready to engage in conversation, while the receptionist is patient, helpful and always smiling, in spite of being kept incredibly busy! Residents look clean, happy and well cared for. If only staff had enough time to foster individual residents' particular interests prior to onset dementia (e.g. my friend spent her life playing the piano, singing and performing, so music helps her tremendously and lifts her mood), that would make the care excellent!

My husband is in for three weeks of respite and we were very pleased with the care he received. He enjoyed the food and the activities (although limited due to Covid). He had to isolate in his room for one week on admission (Covid) but was extended to ten days as he was positive for Covid and I think that was a struggle for him. Looking forward to some daycare!

My parents moved to Grace Care Centre in 2019, initially on respite. As the year progressed their needs changed and they decided to become permanent residents. My parents have been very happy at Grace supported by warm and caring staff who attended their needs as and when necessary. They always enjoyed communal activities pre-pandemic these included visiting musicians, dancers, wheelchair rugby activities, animals and more. The many in-house activities saw my mother becoming the champion quoit thrower. In later times they encouraged my father to make a balsa wood spitfire. As a family we could say so much more about Grace Care Centre but it would need more than 200 words. We feel part of the Grace family, we trust them to look after and nurture our loved ones and we thank them for all they do.

My wife and I have been so very grateful to staff and managers for looking after my Dad, who is blind and very hard of hearing. He was made to feel very welcome and kept his dignity because he was treated with respect and a great deal of patience by the care staff. The facilities at Grace Care Centre are excellent and kept my Dad safe and happy during a very challenging time. Thanks again.

From the manager visiting the hospital to ask Mum what help she would like from them, the whole approach has been to put the resident first and in control. The staff are caring, patient, friendly and smiling. As visitors, we are treated as part of a family, invited to events and activity days and welcome to visit at any time. Mum hated the thought of moving into care but has said to us, 'thank heavens for places like this'.
