Overall Experience

I live alone in a studio flat with a very noisy neighbour in flat above mine and building contractors on site replacing roof on adjacent building and the noise and upheaval is not good for me being in poor health. I have atrial fibrillation and heart issues and needed to get away. Sometimes I need medical assistance, so a hotel was not suitable. So it was suggested for me to go for respite care, like we did for my late mother. I'm self-funded so enquired about possibilities locally and found Avonmere Care Home for my care. As the COVID-19 pandemic was, and still is, in full swing there are lots of safety issues and they are handled well. I have been very comfortable at Avonmere and the staff of carers have been excellent and very friendly and treated me with respect. However the food has been unsatisfactory by my standards. It must be difficult catering on a large scale but when soup is served with two small pieces of bread, that a child could eat, where do my ££££'s go?

Overall Experience

We were greeted on arrival with great courtesy and were very impressed with everything we saw and heard, including the attention given to each resident we met, on the ground floor and in the dementia area on the first floor. My husband appeared to settle quite well but after a few days in the nighttime, he was very disorientated and apparently entered other peoples bedroom trying to strip their beds. This situation the staff could not cope with and there was no apparent security to prevent this. We were asked to take him home early. It seems that this establishment, although new, really do not understand dementia in its more advanced stage. We also lost a pair of blue pyjama trousers even though correctly name marked how could this possibly happen?

I'd just like to express how happy I am with my mother's care here at Avonmere.

The carers are so good with mum, I am a carer myself and know how hard the job is but I cannot fault the care they give my mum and how they always make me welcome. Nothing is ever too much trouble, great people. Thank you all.

My stay of 13 days was pleasant. Everyone was kind, welcoming and considerate. Meals were well planned and enjoyable. It was disappointing however not to be registered with a surgery whilst there. I had need of medical attention which was not forthcoming. This should be addressed for short-term residents.

We are pleased to have found a first-class, local care home at Avonmere.
On entering the foyer it is bright and airy, the friendly receptionists greet, welcome and help the residents, families and visitors. Avonmere is like a 5* hotel,m superb decor in the resident's lounge, dining room, library, games room, cinema, hair salon with lovely garden areas. The management team are hands-on, friendly and very approachable doing their utmost to ensure all is well with needs met.
The nursing, carer's, catering, hospitality and maintenance staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble, they certainly work hard keeping residents happy, cared for and feeling an individual. Mum's needs are met by the activities team with a full schedule each day, the TV is long forgotten!
It is a new style care home having a forward-thinking approach to the needs of those in their care whom love to now call it their home.

This is lovely to hear and know it is a worry taken from us. We are pleased we made an excellent choice and ultimately Mum is loved, well cared for, comfortable and very happy doing far more than she has been able to do in years.

My mother was quite worried and apprehensive before entering Avonmere but all staff welcomed her and explained how she would be looked after and supported, making her feel reassured.

She enjoyed her stay and the interaction with staff and residents. She feels stronger and happier. All 3 daughters are happy with Avonmere.

Review from C B (Cousin of Resident) published on 24 August 2018 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Without consultation or a family meeting, we received a phone call to advise that my cousin was very agitated and getting aggressive. She is 96 years of age and weighs 6 stone - very tiny. Paramedics were called and she was taken to hospital. She was calm the following day and the consultant phoned Avonmere Care Home who refused to have her back. We didn't get 24 hours written notice and now she is homeless.

My mother became a resident in August 2017.
This was our first experience of living in a care home and very daunting for the family.

But it was not long before we realised we had chosen well. I must say I was a little shocked at the turnover of staff but this does seem to be settling down. Overall, I am delighted with the staff who always presentable and helpful. I would like to thank them all for their help and assistance.

We were very concerned about my Mother who was living alone with Dementia and was struggling to cope alone, but now, thanks to the wonderful staff and lovely surroundings at Avonmere, my Mother is enjoying life, smiling and laughing again.
Thank you so much everyone who works so hard and for your dedication to understanding, not only for the residents but for making it a pleasure to visit whenever we want. Nothing is too much trouble.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Mum enjoyed six glorious weeks in your care home before passing away in hospital. She was able to join in many activities and made friends with residents and staff. She related it to a 4 star hotel. She enjoyed the food and loved to see the children coming in. Her care was of exemplary standard and her family are very grateful that she was so very happy there.

Generally good but expensive. Payment details are dealt with at H.Q and are often incorrect - dad has been overcharged. Good job he keeps receipts. Dad has not been supplied with a key to the door which leads from his room to the garden. This concerns me from a Health & Safety and wellbeing perspective.

My Father was a resident in Avonmere for about 3 weeks with a terminal disease.
From the first moment I stepped into the home, I was instantly greeted and welcomed.
I was shown around the beautiful place and was fully informed of all the facilities.
I knew instantly this was the perfect home to place my lovely Father.
All the staff were friendly and very kind.
Nothing was too much trouble for them.
I sampled the excellent food which was perfectly presented.
The Chef made sure my Father's and my personal tastes were accounted for.
The Staff at Avonmere certainly helped to ease the difficult times I had.

I would definitely recommend Avonmere Care Home to anyone.
