My mum spent a period of respite care at Buchanan Court. All the staff welcomed her and did all they could to support her and make her stay pleasant. Her room was clean, spacious and well-equipped. Communication with the team was responsive and informative. The care was excellent.

Buchanan has handled the admission of our mother into respite care with compassion, calmness, and professionalism.

They seamlessly organised her discharge from the hospital, medication and new GP whilst keeping family members informed.

My husband seems to have settled in well and appears to be happy. The carers work hard and are very helpful and his room is kept very clean and tidy. I would like to see him more involved in activities. Music and singing, which he loves, is very important for Alzheimer's sufferers. It is quite difficult when there are only a couple of girls, involved with activities, across all the floors.

From the outset, he was made to feel very welcome. He is really catered for well, considering her has complex needs. His wishes are well respected, and carers always treat him with dignity.

Elton Suite is well run, and one member of staff is really efficient, good-humoured and is always happy to communicate with me regarding his progress and general demeanour. I am happy and relaxed about his care.

My mother has been a resident of Elton Unit since 2019 where her care has been of an extremely high standard. The carers and team leaders are friendly, hardworking and always willing to solve any query that I may have. The recent allocation of key workers for each resident is also an added bonus. My mother's room is clean, warm and welcoming, just as Buchanan Court is in general. Residents have the opportunity to take part in various activities, however, there is a need for more at weekends. The quality of the meals does not reflect the high cost of residing at Buchanan Court, however, a new chef is in the process of being employed. Over the past few years, there have been changes in management which has affected the running of the home and brought about a lack of communication. There has been improvement by the present management, however, it would be wise to attend the relative's video meetings held by the care home manager to give and hear the views of other relatives and to be kept informed of future plans and changes as these are not always communicated to those that do not attend.

The care that my mother currently receives is excellent. The staff are attentive and go beyond the call of duty in ensuring that residents are treated well and are safe and comfortable. With the high turnover of management staff, I feel that relatives are not always being kept in touch with what's happening in the home and we have to keep chasing and asking obvious questions. The fees are very expensive and for that amount would expect an overall excellent service, but getting there.

My mother has been at Buchanan Court for a year and loves it. It is located in a place where she can watch the world go by through her window. It also has a lovely living area with lots of light. The staff are friendly and the food is great. Sometimes the food is too rich for the residents' age and condition. The resident nurse is always available to talk. They really take time to talk to you. I'm happy Mom found this place.

The home is always clean and my wife's room is kept very well. All the staff are very helpful if you have problems and look after my wife with great care and patience.

Although the staff have changed a lot recently they now seem to be very settled and the new management are doing a good job. I would highly recommend Buchanan Court, as it is a lovely home.

Full credit to the team and congratulations to the management. My mum recently moved here and I was visiting her from Sydney. I was comforted by the high care that was delivered to her, every day that I was there. The staff were very friendly and genuine. Everyone from general care, nurses and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful. My mum really loved the place and quickly adjusted. They really understand the needs of residents and also the visitors/ loved ones, who visit them.

Thanks and God Bless.

Unfortunately, I had a stroke/heart problem, just before Christmas 2021. I was taken to hospital and stayed there for one month. I was admitted to Buchanan Court and stayed for three months. I was very well looked after by all the staff. The assistant manager was very helpful to me.

My mother was in Respite care for nearly a year and a half, and she stayed there nearly all through the covid restrictions. I can't thank the staff and residents enough for making my mum feel welcome and cared for. The rooms are very homely and the activities that the staff provide for the residents are really thought through and they gave the residents a sense of community and positivity. My mum was very well looked after and I was able to keep in contact with the carers throughout the restrictions which put my mind at rest. I can highly recommend Buchanan Court Care Home.

My father was admitted for rehab on 18 August. He has dementia and a broken shoulder. I have had a phone call from the home advising I cannot see him as he is in isolation, despite him having had both vaccinations. I am his main carer, both for personal care and wellbeing.
I have been calling up to five times a day to speak to him, calls are not answered by staff on floor three. This is very distressing as I was advised that I cannot see him and now I cannot talk to him!
I really hope that others are treated better, I am disappointed as my father will be confused as to where I am and will not remember that he is in isolation. I really hope other dementia patients are not isolated from their families like this. I will need to make a trip to the home and ask to speak to him when I am there. It's a shame that relatives cannot get through to speak to family members as this gives the home a bad image.

I would not recommend for respite care.

Staff are extremely friendly. Not one passes you by without saying "Good Morning". My mother reports that nothing is too much trouble for them. Thanks to all of you for making her stay comfortable with your caring attitude.
The rooms are of a very high standard and are cleaned frequently. The communal areas and dining room are also spotless and welcoming.
The management team (you know who you are) are excellent and explain all processes and facilities comprehensively.

Would I recommend Buchanan Court? Wholeheartedly...

Buchanan Court is an outstanding care home. Our mum/grandma was so happy living in what truly became her ‘home’, in all senses of the word. Everyone was so kind, caring and welcoming, right from our first visit to Buchanan Court, through to our fun and memorable window-visits, which involved such love and laughter. Everything seemed to be so individually tailored, making mum/grandma feel really special - us too. A big thank you to you all from the three of us and the two dogs.

My mother passed away in March 2020 (thankfully not Covid related) after a short illness aged 95 and having spent almost 2 years at Buchanan Court. I was able to visit her on a daily basis.
During her period of residency, her care was always excellent and well co-ordinated. In the home mum could be herself and was encouraged to carry on her charitable work, raising money for others to benefit. Her worldwide travel knowledge made her of considerable interest to the staff often discussing their own home lives. Hospital visits, and there were a few, were co-ordinated efficiently with transport and a chaperone from the home.

Her room along with all the communal areas were kept spotlessly clean and her own personal requirements including laundry were well dealt with the minimum of fuss. From the time I made initial enquiries about the home to the days and weeks following her passing the administration staff were always available to talk to and assist with any queries that came up.

My mom spent 2-weeks in respite care! The care she received was excellent; mom was very happy and comfortable!
It’s very comforting for our family that she was safe and happy in her new environment, mom suffers from Alzheimer’s and can be very challenging at times, but the staff were amazing with her.

I would definitely recommend Buchana Court!

My mother was a resident at Buchanan Court. She came in November 2018 until 18th April 2020. She was happy and comfortable during her stay. During her end of life, I was allowed to visit her during the lockdown. I must admire this care home for their carers, staff, management, life skills and various other departments. The carers were so wonderful, loving, gentle, understanding, and supportive. They looked after my dying mother with dignity, love, and passion. They were so extra caring and helpful towards me and my family. That was my mother's home and still is my mother's home. Love them all.

Laurentiu IordachescuJob Title:Home Manager

Welcome to Buchanan Court. My background is in nursing. In fact, I worked as a paramedic for the air ambulance for a long time, and as a unit manager in a brain injury department. When I joined Care UK, I started out as a nurse assessor and clinical lead, before progressing to be a home manager.

I’m very proud to work for Care UK – it’s one of the leading providers of older people’s care in this country and it has great systems and clear values. It also supports its colleagues to do their best work and to progress.

One of my favourite parts of my role is meeting with residents and their families and understanding their needs. I love seeing people flourishing with the person-centred care they receive from our fantastic team. Supporting them to live the life they want – that’s our ultimate goal at Care UK.

I’m personally passionate about ensuring every person we care for is happy, safe, understood and able to continue enjoying their relationships with their loved ones.

In my spare time I like to unwind by watching movies and reading books. I’m from Romania originally and, when I can, I still like to travel and experience new places, people and cultures.
