Buchanan Court in Harrow is a purpose-built care home for older people that offers superb, person-centred care. The dedicated team provides a full range of high-quality care, including nursing, residential dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.

of care and support required by each individual. Premium rooms normally require an additional charge.

other privately arranged healthcare. Should you require an escort to hospital appointments, we may apply an agreed hourly charge for this service.

There can be very few care homes which don't bump up against a perfect storm of multiple challenges hitting them at the same time. For Buchanan Court, having gotten through all the issues related to Covid, 2022 was their annus horribilis, a year when, from my perspective, the home almost came off the
rails. A combination of ineffective management, poor decision making and low staff morale resulted eventually in Care UK's head office sending in a team in September to sort out the problems and return Buchanan Court to the happy, well-run home that it always used to be. Despite my reflections on 2022, I should make it clear that my wife's care in the dementia unit was always exemplary and in this respect, I am extremely grateful and have no complaints. I also realize that a care home should be judged not only on the effectiveness of its day-to-day operations, but by the way it responds to problems. Under a new manager, it's now getting back on track and is definitely worthy of consideration.

The home is always clean and my wife's room is kept very well. All the staff are very helpful if you have problems and look after my wife with great care and patience.
Although the staff have changed a lot recently they now seem to be very settled and the new management are doing a good job. I would
highly recommend Buchanan Court, as it is a lovely home.

Full credit to the team and congratulations to the management. My mum recently moved here and I was visiting her from Sydney. I was comforted by the high care that was delivered to her, every day that I was there. The staff were very friendly and genuine. Everyone from general care, nurses and cleaning
staff were very friendly and helpful. My mum really loved the place and quickly adjusted. They really understand the needs of residents and also the visitors/ loved ones, who visit them.

Unfortunately, I had a stroke/heart problem, just before Christmas 2021. I was taken to hospital and stayed there for one month. I was admitted to Buchanan Court and stayed for three months. I was very well looked after by all the staff. The assistant manager was very helpful to me.

My mother was in Respite care for nearly a year and a half, and she stayed there nearly all through the covid restrictions. I can't thank the staff and residents enough for making my mum feel welcome and cared for. The rooms are very homely and the activities that the staff provide for the residents
are really thought through and they gave the residents a sense of community and positivity. My mum was very well looked after and I was able to keep in contact with the carers throughout the restrictions which put my mind at rest. I can highly recommend Buchanan Court Care Home.

My father was admitted for rehab on 18 August. He has dementia and a broken shoulder. I have had a phone call from the home advising I cannot see him as he is in isolation, despite him having had both vaccinations. I am his main carer, both for personal care and wellbeing.
I have been calling up
to five times a day to speak to him, calls are not answered by staff on floor three. This is very distressing as I was advised that I cannot see him and now I cannot talk to him!
I really hope that others are treated better, I am disappointed as my father will be confused as to where I am and will not remember that he is in isolation. I really hope other dementia patients are not isolated from their families like this. I will need to make a trip to the home and ask to speak to him when I am there. It's a shame that relatives cannot get through to speak to family members as this gives the home a bad image.
I would not recommend for respite care.

Staff are extremely friendly. Not one passes you by without saying "Good Morning". My mother reports that nothing is too much trouble for them. Thanks to all of you for making her stay comfortable with your caring attitude.
The rooms are of a very high standard and are cleaned frequently. The communal
areas and dining room are also spotless and welcoming.
The management team (you know who you are) are excellent and explain all processes and facilities comprehensively.
Would I recommend Buchanan Court? Wholeheartedly...

Buchanan Court is clean and welcoming. The gardens are well looked after. Reception area and residents rooms are clean.
Staff are very helpful and caring, they make sure that the residents are well looked after and provide a safe environment. My mother is happy here. She's fed, showered and the room
is bright and cheerful. Staff are ready to help with any queries/concerns.

Buchanan Court is an outstanding care home. Our mum/grandma was so happy living in what truly became her ‘home’, in all senses of the word. Everyone was so kind, caring and welcoming, right from our first visit to Buchanan Court, through to our fun and memorable window-visits, which involved such love
and laughter. Everything seemed to be so individually tailored, making mum/grandma feel really special - us too. A big thank you to you all from the three of us and the two dogs.

My mother passed away in March 2020 (thankfully not Covid related) after a short illness aged 95 and having spent almost 2 years at Buchanan Court. I was able to visit her on a daily basis.
During her period of residency, her care was always excellent and well co-ordinated. In the home mum could be
herself and was encouraged to carry on her charitable work, raising money for others to benefit. Her worldwide travel knowledge made her of considerable interest to the staff often discussing their own home lives. Hospital visits, and there were a few, were co-ordinated efficiently with transport and a chaperone from the home.
Her room along with all the communal areas were kept spotlessly clean and her own personal requirements including laundry were well dealt with the minimum of fuss. From the time I made initial enquiries about the home to the days and weeks following her passing the administration staff were always available to talk to and assist with any queries that came up.

My mom spent 2-weeks in respite care! The care she received was excellent; mom was very happy and comfortable!
It’s very comforting for our family that she was safe and happy in her new environment, mom suffers from Alzheimer’s and can be very challenging at times, but the staff were amazing with
her.

My aunty was a resident in Buchanan Court care home. Buchanan Court is a loving, caring, clean and warm home. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff, manager, care workers are very friendly and understanding. They allowed my aunty to be very comfortable. They respected her wishes all the time.

My mother was a resident at Buchanan Court. She came in November 2018 until 18th April 2020. She was happy and comfortable during her stay. During her end of life, I was allowed to visit her during the lockdown. I must admire this care home for their carers, staff, management, life skills and various
other departments. The carers were so wonderful, loving, gentle, understanding, and supportive. They looked after my dying mother with dignity, love, and passion. They were so extra caring and helpful towards me and my family. That was my mother's home and still is my mother's home. Love them all.

My mother has been very well cared for at Buchanan Court for over 2 years. I am particularly impressed with the management of the home during the current health crisis. We have access to weekly zoom meetings which keep us informed of all developments and we have a weekly visit set up to see my mother
in the garden area. I find the members of staff very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is modern and comfortable and it is good to know that Mum is being well looked after in these difficult times.

My mother is very satisfied with the care that she receives in this care home. The carers are very caring and this is what is most important to my mother. The staff that have been caring for my mother are genuinely lovely people.
When we were not in lockdown my mother has enjoyed all the musical
events that the care home have put on. Mum's room and hygiene care are good.
One suggestion that I would like to make is whether there can be more carers or volunteers providing 1:1 time for the residents to just sit and talk to them. My mother loves talking about the past including music and film stars and would enjoy more opportunity to just talk on a 1:1 basis.
My only concern during lockdown, was, (and still is) the lack of testing for the staff which lead to unfortunate consequences.
Overall I consider this is a very good care home and would highly recommend it.

My sister has been in Buchanan Court for the last 15months or so and has settled in very well. She has been very well looked after and has not had any re-occurrences of the infections that flared up when she was in the previous care home. The staff are very kind, and I would not have any hesitation
in recommending the home to anyone.

My mum came to Buchannan Court for rehabilitation after a broken leg. The nursing care and support provided has been of a very high standard. The emphasis has always been on the residents' needs and well being.
In particular, over the past four months, since the pandemic hit us, the care and communication
provided by the management and staff have been excellent. This has enabled us to transition these difficult times with relative ease.
The newly appointed management team has shown great initiative in implementing both improvements and changes in the way the care home is run/managed for the benefit of the residents and their relatives.
My mum is very happy to be a resident of Buchannan Court care home and would highly recommend it for anyone seeking a placement for their loved ones. Recently, mum has come to associate the care home as an actual home to her, which in my opinion, is high praise indeed.

I cannot praise the home enough. My mother has lived there for over 2-years, and you could not wish for better staff. There is very little turnover, and they really get to know and care for their residents. How they have managed the Covid19 crisis has been amazing, providing weekly FaceTime calls, a
weekly Zoom meeting with the manager and now, socially distance timed visits.
The facilities the home provides are excellent.
They have a varied and interesting timetable of activities and entertainment and have even managed to carry some of them on during the last 4-months.
I have peace of mind knowing that my mother is happy and well cared for.

My husband, who was bedridden, should never have been accepted by Buchanan Court because his needs were too great for the nursing available. There was a lack of supervision of the nursing assistants and one in particulars attitude bordered on cruelty. He was made to feel a nuisance and was left for
long periods with no interaction from anyone. Some were caring but over-worked. Food was unappetising, inedible and tough. Rooms well decorated but impractical eg no reading light over bed. Large sum deducted from his account, unauthorised. No telephone call when admitted to A& E at 9pm. My husband rang himself the following morning.

Laurentiu Iordachescu

Job Title: Home Manager

Welcome to Buchanan Court. My background is in nursing. In fact, I worked as a paramedic for the air ambulance for a long time, and as a unit manager in a brain injury department. When I joined Care UK, I started out as a nurse assessor and clinical lead, before progressing to be a home manager.


I’m very proud to work for Care UK – it’s one of the leading providers of older people’s care in this country and it has great systems and clear values. It also supports its colleagues to do their best work and to progress.


One of my favourite parts of my role is meeting with residents and their families and understanding their needs. I love seeing people flourishing with the person-centred care they receive from our fantastic team. Supporting them to live the life they want – that’s our ultimate goal at Care UK.


I’m personally passionate about ensuring every person we care for is happy, safe, understood and able to continue enjoying their relationships with their loved ones.


In my spare time I like to unwind by watching movies and reading books. I’m from Romania originally and, when I can, I still like to travel and experience new places, people and cultures.
