My dad recently passed away but spent his last few weeks on end-of-life care at Mercia Grange. He had been in the hospital, and we were arranging respite care for him when we received the sad news that he would require a different type of care.
The staff at Mercia couldn't have been more helpful and
accommodating. Considering all Dad's children live overseas, they made the process so simple for us.
Although Dad wasn't well enough to enjoy all the facilities there, he was truly happy in the closing weeks of his life. The kindness and care shown by all the staff were amazing and brought peace of mind to us all. They did their utmost to engage with him and treated him with dignity and respect to the very end.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Mercia Grange and wish we could've got Dad in there much earlier. Thank you to all the staff; you provide exceptional service.

The customer relations manager and her colleagues organised care for my mum very quickly and efficiently, yet with many personal touches for her and her family - an initial enquiry on a Monday lunchtime led to moving into a lovely room on the Thursday. The care and support that she received was excellent
and the peace of mind this bought to the family was priceless. The division into different floors works well with each being a small community. The variety and quality of the food - including freshly baked goodies each day for the cafe was also appreciated by both my mum and her family.

My mom has recently passed away, but spent the last 2 years of her life at Mercia Grange. She couldn’t have been happier.
Mom had many needs, but nothing was ever too much trouble for her carers. She was never made to feel anything but valued, and her care was second to none. All of the carers were
like old friends, sharing a joke or a chat at every opportunity.
There was always an activity happening to join in with, or just to watch if that was all Mom felt that she wanted to do.
Mom loved the visits from guests, including singers, school children, ponies and dogs to mention a few, and also the special occasion days like ABBA tributes and “wartime singalongs”, along with Easter games in the garden that we as a family, were able to share with Mom.
No one wants to go into a care home, and it’s important that the choice is right. If Mom and I had to chose again, the choice would be the same.
I would like to thank everyone for making my mom's latter years happy, and allowing me peace of mind.

As I live alone, I decided to book a fortnight respite care to recover from a serious operation. I received a warm welcome with as much or as little assistance as I needed during my stay. I felt the care team were genuinely concerned for my recovery and readiness to return home. With another operation
on the card I shall be back afterwards for more TLC.

We are a couple of months into our experience with Mercia Grange who are caring for my father, who sadly has Dementia. We are very pleased to say that Mercia Grange has met our expectations, it is clear that the residents are treated with the highest levels of care, dignity and respect. Probably most
reassuring of all is the kindness shown, it is evident that they all work very hard to establish a trustful relationship with the resident and the family. All of the staff at Mercia Grange that we have met, right from the reception, housekeeping, catering and the management deserve a mention. The overall standards of the home are very high and you can see this is something that they pride themselves on.

Choosing a care home is the most difficult decision made on behalf of a loved one. However I knew Mercia Grange was the one for Mum as soon as I stepped through the doors. Wow! I thought the atmosphere felt amazing. Mum is settling in slowly but surely thanks to the amazing team of carers around her.
The encouragement, empathy but most of all the friendly attitude they show is outstanding. Always something going on every day to keep the residents active as best as possible. I feel at home when I visit, nothing is too much trouble. I know I have made the right choice and feel I can be at peace knowing Mum is safe and well cared for.

Needing end of life care for our mother, with no space at local hospices we started to seek out nursing homes, only prepared to consider those with 'outstanding' status as defined by the QCC. Mercia Grange is one of only around 3 in our area to achieve this.


The customer relations manager was helpful

and understanding. The home is immaculate and beautifully designed. Excuse me speaking frankly, it doesn't stink like so many nursing homes do. My mother was attended to promptly when she used her buzzer. The carers and nursing staff also continually checked in on her. Every detail of internal decor and functionality is considered. The designers of this building have gone to great trouble to disguise institutional functionality. All this means that Mercia Grange feels more like a charming hotel.


My mother very, unfortunately, took a turn for the worst and had to be readmitted to hospital. We had paid our fee and signed our contract agreement. To my astonishment these lovely people refunded us. They did not have to do this.

When my sisters and I found ourselves in a position whereby we needed to find a care home for our aunt, we found that online reviews contributed massively to our thought processes. It is for that reason that I feel it so important to share our wonderful experience of Mercia Grange.
From the moment
that we saw this outstanding care facility, we knew that this was our number one choice and that our aunt would be very happy here. We found the building itself to be of the highest standard - with clean, spacious rooms and communal areas that were very inviting. Upon arrival, we were made to feel incredibly welcome by the caring and friendly staff. In particular, we must mention the customer relations manager, who went above and beyond to make the moving process as seamless as possible. She made all necessary arrangements extremely quickly and was wonderfully supportive throughout what can be a difficult time for families. We cannot thank her enough.

My 94-year-old friend, who has no family, recently contacted covid and ended up in hospital. When she was deemed medically fit she was unable to look after herself and decided to spend 28 days of respite care in Mercia Grange.
Before the 28 days were up she decided that the care and facilities were
what she needed on an ongoing basis. She has made Mercia Grange her home and is happier now than at any time in the last ten years.


Although the facilities are excellent at Mercia Grange the staff are too and it is they who turn excellent premises into an excellent home.

My sister and I had spent most of the summer months looking at various homes for our aunt. We found the whole experience quite distressing until we visited Mercia Grange. From our very first visit, we were welcomed by every member of staff we met with a friendly smile and attitude towards everyone.
We were so impressed. We felt that every question was answered with a high standard of knowledge and expertise and there was not a silly question. The home itself provides everything to a very high standard indeed, something that was lacking in other places that we visited. Initially, we placed our aunt in their care for two weeks respite, she is now a full resident. The day that we took her to the home we could not have asked for more, we were obviously upset at leaving her, but the staff made our task easy and without distress to our aunt. We cannot praise the staff enough, we can call any time, day or night, and speak to the staff on my aunt's wing, they are amazing.

My sister and I were very upset at the thought of our relative going into a home. But circumstances meant she could no longer live on her own. We visited many homes and we realised that Covid restrictions were in place. However, this was the only home that welcomed our enquiry.
On a tour around the
home (Covid safe) every member of staff we encountered said hello. This did not happen in all but one of the others we visited.
Another bonus is that you can contact the home at any time. This is helpful when you yourselves are working. Someone has always answered the telephone. Any appointments to sort paperwork have been at our convenience. The customer service manager tries to make the process run smoothly.
All the staff are well trained in Dementia care something we felt was essential.
Our relative has settled very quickly. She is brighter when we visit and holding a conversation that she couldn't do before. It is not all plain sailing but we can not thank the staff enough.

I was distraught when I realised I could no longer care for my wife at home and needed to find residential care for her. Personal recommendations led me to Mercia Grange where I found the staff as concerned for me as for my wife. I was particularly impressed by the warmth of the welcome of all the staff
and the relaxed but safe and efficient atmosphere. The facilities are excellent and the standards of cleanliness and maintenance extremely high. Since her admission my wife has enjoyed the best imaginable care and attention and I am made to feel both welcome and cared for. The staff are prepared to go beyond the limits that can be expected of them in their care giving and their compassion. Over the two months of her stay to date I have found nothing at fault or to give any cause for concern and friends that have visited her all say the same.

Both my parents have resided at Marcia Grange, now sadly deceased. My father was on the nursing floor and my mother was on the dementia floor then nursing. The care and compassion during the 2 and a half years has been wonderful. The care and devotion to the residents is heartwarming and the kindness
and understanding to me, as a family member, is truly priceless. All the staff are so genuine and the nursing care, faultless.

Although it is difficult to give a broad and balanced review under the current restrictions, I have been impressed with the way my mum has been welcomed into the home under traumatic circumstances, when we had to find a new home very suddenly. I can't praise the customer relations manager highly enough.
She has been amazing, getting things sorted very quickly and checking that everything was okay, making us all feel valued. I feel able to telephone at any time and am met with a cheerful response. Which is very important while we are only able to visit for very short times. The carers listen, taking on board and responding to whatever is said either by Mum or me. The reception staff are also helpful and welcoming. Since moving to Mercia Grange, my Mum has started to eat and enjoy her food again and seems particularly impressed by the puddings! So thank you Chef!

Covid has been an absolute nightmare for any care home but from the day I first visited Mercia Grange back in April I felt a warmth and feel good factor immediately and this hasn't changed. Everyone from the nurses to the admin team take a positive interest in every resident and you can talk to anyone
and they will know how they are getting on. The staff prepare the residents to welcome their visitors so that they look nice. It's difficult enough visiting in these times but to see that someone has made the effort to shave and put nice clothes on is a lovely surprise and quite touching given people's circumstances. I touched the hand of my friend and instantly knew that he had been moisturised and it felt so lovely and this must feel good too for him, especially being bedbound. He had a smile on his face and the visiting time just flies by. I can't believe the difference in him in the month that he has been there and I leave him knowing that he is well fed and in safe hands.

Both my mother and father spent a period of time at Mercia Grange in respite care due to a deterioration in my mum's general health and following a nasty gastric virus. They came away from Mercia fighting fit again and were able to return to their own home to carry on with their day to day lives supported
by me. This was a huge relief period of time for me and I cannot thank the staff at Mercia enough for making their time there so special despite the first week being spent in isolation due to COVID regulations.

Mercia Grange is a stunning care home with a great team.


I joined Care UK after working as an interim manager at a not-for-profit organisation. I received a post-graduate degree in Business Management from Leeds University Business School and a Certificate in Management from Leicester University.


As a Home Manager, you must be totally focused on providing a quality living experience for the residents who we are entrusted to care for. You need to be positive and value the team that delivers care in the home, as well as ensuring any concerns of residents and their families are addressed immediately.


My favourite part of the day is being on the floor with residents and team members when they are enjoying their time together. It’s wonderful to have laughter and smiling faces in the home. The most important part of my role is ensuring all aspects of residents’ daily living experiences are centred around their wishes.


Outside of work, family is my number one priority. As I live in a livery yard, horses are a big part of my interests outside of work. I do the maintenance and leave the horse riding to my wife and daughters. I’m also an animal lover: we have dogs, a cat, five ducks and chickens.
