My brother spent four weeks in Hesketh Park Lodge, he seemed very settled but when he visited another care home he wanted to move there. I can honestly say that he was very well looked after but are very understaffed.
Reply from Debra Banks, Manager at Hesketh Park LodgeThanks for this review which is lovely. We really do have a great team of staff, many of whom go above their job roles each day. We are so pleased you are happy with the care and attention given to all our fantastic residents. We aim to keep our standards extremely high and I would like to assure you that staffing levels are maintained by following a dependency scoring tool to ensure we have the correct numbers of staff on duty each day. This is monitored to ensure our residents receive safe and, most importantly, effective care. Our activities staff do try to get to know all our residents and find out what activities each resident would like to get involved with. This is an area that we are currently working on in the home, to improve the well-being of our residents and enhance their experiences here at Hesketh Park and in the community. It was lovely to meet you both and we are here should you require any further support. Take care and thanks again.

I was a resident at Hesketh Park Lodge, I came from a spinal unit in hospital. When I arrived at the home I was left in reception for over 2 hours, the maintenance man was the only help I had to move my belongings. The first contact I had was with a carer after 7 hours, she didn't introduce herself
and was speaking in her language on the phone which made me uncomfortable. They neglected me all this time, not offering any food or drink. Finally receiving a cold slice of toast and warm tea 9 hours late. The biggest issue I had with this home was medication errors, not receiving the correct medication at the right time, this caused me to fall out of my wheelchair 3 times as well as falling out of my bed. I was unable to get a shower for 5 weeks because there were no shower chairs. I raised all these issues with the manager, she showed no empathy. On December 20th I moved out and moved into another home where I feel much more happier. I would not recommend Hesketh Park Lodge.

My wife went into Hesketh Park Lodge at the beginning of September and thanks to the staff and the overall environment she has settled well. She has dementia and despite her condition, she is able to relate and communicate to both staff and residents. She has always been a caring and thoughtful person
towards others and this has helped both herself and the residents as well as staff.
Over the five weeks, I have noticed the varied stages the residents are in and am impressed that this has been acknowledged and a proposal is hopefully being implemented. My only negative observation is despite clothes being identified they seem to get mislaid. Also my wife wears glasses all the time and they get mislaid, she has worn several other pairs from other residents.
Reply from Maxine Nichol, Quality Manager at Hesketh Park LodgeThank you for your positive comments and these will be passed on to staff. I will raise the concerns about the mislaid glasses and clothing and hopefully, this can be resolved.

I live on my own and have had a hernia repair procedure, not wishing to put a strain on the healing process I decided to book in for 2 weeks respite care. I have had a restful time without any worries from my domestic tasks.
The staff have been pleasant, cheerful and helpful throughout in providing
my needs. I found the food adequate and well cooked.
Reply from Jo-Ann Wallace, Lodge Service Advisor at Hesketh Park LodgeThank you for your compliments of the staff and your stay with us, I am pleased you felt confident in your decision to choose Hesketh Park Lodge to convalesce after your operation. It is also nice to know that we have fulfilled your expectations and hopefully you will recommend us to any other friends or family who may require care in the future.

My cousin was admitted to the care of Hesketh Park Lodge in July following a severe stroke. As I live 6000 miles away and am the only relative he is in touch with, I was obviously quite anxious. In November, I was finally able to visit him. When I arrived, all my fears were blown away. This is not your
average care home. This is more akin to a boutique hotel! The facilities are amazing and the staff even more amazing. They really do care. Under their care, my cousin is doing so well that it is looking as though he may soon go back home. This is a massive step forward. And I can only thank the wonderful staff for this life changing change. A special thanks must go to, a Nurse who goes beyond and also to the Head Housekeeper. There are probably many others but it was them who I had the pleasure to engage with. And let’s not forget the amazing Care Home Manager who really does have her resident's best interests at heart. In summary, my experience has been fantastic.
Reply from Jo-Ann Wallace, Lodge Service Advisor at Hesketh Park LodgeThank you for your lovely review and for taking the time to pass on your thoughts. The staff at Hesketh Park Lodge put residents and family care at the heart of everything they do, and it is great to see that it is paying dividends. You have obviously received an excellent five-star customer experience. We will pass your comments onto the manager and her team who will be so delighted and overwhelmed to hear such positive feedback. Once again thank you.

Respite - very disappointed.
Mainly the staff was lovely - but my husband was homesick, so I requested tablets from a doctor. Instead, 111 was contacted and sadly it took five days to receive the correct dose. (Unnecessary time wasted for my husband and family to witness).
Soon after this, a serious
incident occurred one night - a nurse forgot to give my husband his insulin, which resulted in him going into hospital for many hours the next day. It could have been life-threatening and very distressing for him and us.
After a few more days back at Hesketh Park Lodge, he came back home.
He looked so poorly and as dreaded, my husband had caught Covid symptoms badly, most probably from the hospital admission before, and sadly passed away ten days later in hospital. No condolence card from the Nursing Home was given.
A very sad episode that has had a devastating effect on me and my family, and wish it had never happened. We were let down very badly.
I wish we'd gone somewhere else.

Special mention to the nurses and care staff on duty when my dad was taken ill with an infection and later hospitalised. Impressed by the teamwork and efficiency, knowledge yet general good humour under pressure. Also, the clinical skills that meant the infection was spotted early and therefore soon
treated. Thank you.

Having got my mum in Hesketh Park Lodge in September after a bad experience at another home in Southport, Mum has flourished. She has dementia and wasn't active during the day. Now she's never still! I can't fault the staff or facilities, Mum has a boost getting involved in all activities and events.
She doesn't have a bad word to say about Hesketh Park Lodge.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.670)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.670) out of 10 for Hesketh Park Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.670 for Hesketh Park Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (261 Excellents x 5) + (102 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 373 Ratings = 4.67
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hesketh Park Lodge is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Having worked in the care sector now for more than 15 years in various roles, the most fulfilling role has to be working with prospective residents, their family or their representatives. I find it most rewarding in helping to find the most suitable care home that will endeavour to meet the care needs of each new resident, along with show casing and promoting the many superb facilities each individual care home has to offer.

My main duty is just by being there every step of the way, helping to support families to take away some of the stress of trying to find the right care home for their loved one.

In my spare time I love nothing more than walking my cockapoo, travelling to different counties within the UK and visiting different countries to sample the different restaurants, sightseeing and experiencing different cultures, but most importantly spending quality time with family and friends.
