My mum went in for 4 weeks respite. It was nothing like we thought it would be. I collected her early and she was very happy to come home. From what she has told me, she spent most of the time in her room and there were other issues which weren't resolved even though I did try. It wasn't the right place for her.

Reply from Rachel Smith-Harrison, Home Manager at Oakdale Care Home

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. I am sorry to see you and your mother were unhappy with Oakdale during her respite stay with us, and we sincerely apologise that her stay did not meet your expectations. It’s disappointing that we did not have the chance to discuss the issues...

All staff are pleasant and helpful at all times to my Dad and visiting family. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff appreciate that this situation is new to our family and are happy to answer the questions asked. At 98 and 1/2, my dad is very limited but the staff keep him clear, well-fed and water is available. The bid sides are wonderful keeping dad safe and clean looking with the white sheets, I asked Dad how he feels he said "safe" Thank you Oakdale Care Home.

My husband was in this care home for approximately one year. He is very deaf and has severe muscular degeneration is unable to walk or stand and is doubly incontinent. When visiting him I frequently found he did not have his hearing aids in, he was always in bed, had very dirty (and untrimmed) fingernails. I have often called for nurses when he needed changing and waited more than 10 minutes for a response. He spent most of the day alone, his water out of reach. I could write reams of complaints which were not addressed.

Urgent respite care was needed for my father-in-law and our first point of contact with one team member - the family can only describe his help and support from the outset as exceptional. Within 24-hours a place was arranged for my father-in-law at Oakdale where he spent 2 weeks being cared for by the superb staff. He had a beautiful suite with all amenities, great food and 24-hour care. For the family it has meant peace of mind in the knowledge he was receiving the best of care at a vulnerable stage in his recovery. Thank you to everyone at Oakdale and the Encore team.

We are very pleased that your father-in-law enjoyed his respite stay with us and the team will be heartened to know that the care he received and the process of moving in provided much reassurance for your family.

We've been delighted with the level of care and support from the team at Oakdale, particularly during this difficult time with COVID-19. The facilities are excellent - just what you'd expect from a brand new care home. Dad has told me he's very happy with his care and particularly enjoys the food.

It's very reassuring to know that Dad is being well looked after and we've appreciated all the efforts of the team to keep us updated on Dad's health and wellbeing at a time when we've not been able to go and see him.

I feel I was too hasty with a previous review; a small observation was immediately rectified, and everything now I am extremely satisfied with. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. Even with this difficult time; the relatives are made to feel included and offered ways to keep in contact with loved ones.
The relief to know your loved one is happy and so well cared for. I cannot imagine what I would have done without the 'Oakdale'.

Keep up the good work - you are an excellent team, each and everyone of you.

Reply from Amy Grohmann, Marketing Manager at Oakdale Care Home

Thank you for your kind review and that is fantastic to hear that a small observation was immediately rectified. We always encourage any of our residents or their relatives to come and chat to us if there is anything we can do better or provide. I will be sure to pass on your thanks to the Home Manager and the Oakdale team.

Having looked at four other homes in the area, from the moment my husband and myself stepped foot in The Oakdale, we knew we had found the place for my father-in-law. The place is immaculate and beautifully decorated. The private rooms (all with en-suite) and the communal areas are all light, airy and very welcoming. All of the staff that we have met so far, have gone above and beyond to be friendly, helpful and supportive. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
The quality of the food is outstanding and could easily put some top-class restaurants to shame!
One thing that I particularly like about The Oakdale, is that the residents aren’t just plonked in front of a television and forgotten about. They are encouraged to sit together in the communal areas and socialise, which is lovely. My father-in-law has loved having 'a bit of banter' with the staff and other residents.

We look forward to visiting my father-in-law and are hoping that he decides to stay, after his period of respite.

My mother-in-law stayed for 3 weeks over the Christmas period. She lives in her own home and has home visits x4 paid for by her local authority. We wanted her to come and stay with us but this was not possible. Your home was recommended by a friend and from first setting foot in the door when we came to view, we knew this would be perfect for Mum. Staff are welcoming, friendly and warm. Rooms were modern and spacious. Food was fantastic. We are now planning on moving mum down here permanently. 7-star service. Thank you.

Since arriving, my father has settled in very quickly. All the staff are polite, friendly and he receives excellent care. He really loves his meals which are of a really high standard. The home is beautiful and I always receive a warm welcome from the staff. They are happy to answer any questions I have. Knowing he's well cared for 24/7 is really comforting and more importantly knowing he's happy. It's lovely visiting him and spending time having a cuppa in the bistro area, lounge or his room. I'd highly recommend the Oakdale home.
