I can't thank the staff at Oakdale enough for how they looked after Mum. They went above and beyond with her care. Nothing was too much trouble, and Mum was very confused, so lots of extra work. I am really grateful.

My mother was a resident of Oakdale. The kindness, care, respect and dignity given to my mother during her stay there were superb. I could not have wished for anything better other than to have moved her in earlier. Their knowledge of handling someone with dementia and end-of-life could not have been
faulted. They also extended their care to the family, which was very much appreciated.
I would also like to thank the group for the rapid response team. The team could not have been more efficient or kind. It was wonderful to find someone who understood exactly what I was going through, and the speed and response were more than I expected or even encountered anywhere else.

It was a slightly chaotic start to mum's moving in, however since the manager joined things are very much improved, and we are happy that mum is there. All the staff seem kind and caring and engage the residents. Mum particularly enjoys the animal visits organised.

On every visit, I have found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I have always been impressed by the level of care they have always shown to my cousin. The home is always clean and tidy. They seem to be always striving to make the residents as comfortable as possible.

Arrived for my usual visit on our ruby wedding to find we were taken to a private lounge which was beautifully decorated with anniversary banners and balloons. They were also crayons, posters to colour and bubbles for our young grandchildren to keep them amused. The staff then came in with an incredible
cake, made by the home chef, which was delicious. Photos were taken and given to us along with a card. A big thank you to those at Oakdale for making this a special celebration.

My father returned from hospital very depressed and felt uncared for and he also felt he had not been treated with kindness and respect. However, since being the care home this has all changed and we have our dad back! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and that extends to family members too.
There is entertainment and he is able to socialise which has made such a difference following his previous isolation in hospital. The food is amazing with a huge choice, the rooms are light and airy and the home is clean and brightly decorated. I highly recommend Oakdale. A big thank you to everyone involved.

My mum went in for 4 weeks respite. It was nothing like we thought it would be. I collected her early and she was very happy to come home. From what she has told me, she spent most of the time in her room and there were other issues which weren't resolved even though I did try. It wasn't the right

All staff are pleasant and helpful at all times to my Dad and visiting family. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff appreciate that this situation is new to our family and are happy to answer the questions asked. At 98 and 1/2, my dad is very limited but the staff keep him clear, well-fed and water
is available. The bid sides are wonderful keeping dad safe and clean looking with the white sheets, I asked Dad how he feels he said "safe" Thank you Oakdale Care Home.

My husband was in this care home for approximately one year. He is very deaf and has severe muscular degeneration is unable to walk or stand and is doubly incontinent. When visiting him I frequently found he did not have his hearing aids in, he was always in bed, had very dirty (and untrimmed) fingernails.
I have often called for nurses when he needed changing and waited more than 10 minutes for a response. He spent most of the day alone, his water out of reach. I could write reams of complaints which were not addressed.

Urgent respite care was needed for my father-in-law and our first point of contact with one team member - the family can only describe his help and support from the outset as exceptional. Within 24-hours a place was arranged for my father-in-law at Oakdale where he spent 2 weeks being cared for by the
superb staff. He had a beautiful suite with all amenities, great food and 24-hour care. For the family it has meant peace of mind in the knowledge he was receiving the best of care at a vulnerable stage in his recovery. Thank you to everyone at Oakdale and the Encore team.

We've been delighted with the level of care and support from the team at Oakdale, particularly during this difficult time with COVID-19. The facilities are excellent - just what you'd expect from a brand new care home. Dad has told me he's very happy with his care and particularly enjoys the food.
It's
very reassuring to know that Dad is being well looked after and we've appreciated all the efforts of the team to keep us updated on Dad's health and wellbeing at a time when we've not been able to go and see him.

I feel I was too hasty with a previous review; a small observation was immediately rectified, and everything now I am extremely satisfied with. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. Even with this difficult time; the relatives are made to feel included and offered ways to keep in contact
with loved ones.
The relief to know your loved one is happy and so well cared for. I cannot imagine what I would have done without the 'Oakdale'.

Having looked at four other homes in the area, from the moment my husband and myself stepped foot in The Oakdale, we knew we had found the place for my father-in-law. The place is immaculate and beautifully decorated. The private rooms (all with en-suite) and the communal areas are all light, airy and
very welcoming. All of the staff that we have met so far, have gone above and beyond to be friendly, helpful and supportive. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
The quality of the food is outstanding and could easily put some top-class restaurants to shame!
One thing that I particularly like about The Oakdale, is that the residents aren’t just plonked in front of a television and forgotten about. They are encouraged to sit together in the communal areas and socialise, which is lovely. My father-in-law has loved having 'a bit of banter' with the staff and other residents.
We look forward to visiting my father-in-law and are hoping that he decides to stay, after his period of respite.

Lesley Brock

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2022

Lesley says: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. My focus is on making those moments matter for our residents.”


Lesley has spent her whole career in care, with her roles taking her from nurse training to owning her own business in domiciliary care. She joins Oakdale having managed other nursing homes, and dementia-specific homes and has also owned and operated domiciliary care agencies throughout the southwest of England.


She believes that being a strong team is important and that managers in care must be “everything and more” to their team, to residents and to their families.
