I am saddened to read of the upset both you and your family have felt. Following my response to your relative’s review, I am sorry that the care your grandfather received did not meet your expectations. My team and I are focused on delivering the very best care for our residents. We take staff recruitment and training very seriously to ensure we only recruit compassionate and hardworking individuals. We are a new management team and are enthused by feedback, as we continually review and improve our service to both residents and relatives.
I am very sorry to read of your disappointment. As Oakdale’s new manager, I would like to apologise that the care your father received did not meet your expectations. My team and I are focused on delivering the very best care for our residents. My door is always open, and relatives and residents can make an appointment to speak to me at any time that is convenient for them. We aim to continually review and improve our service to both residents and relatives – as such, your feedback is an important part of this process.

Thank you for your review, and for taking the time to talk to me last week about your mother's move into Oakdale. I welcomed the chance to explain how we have improved our communication over recent months, and that those learnings have formed part of the new manager's induction and briefing. It's great to read your comments about the Oakdale team, and I'm especially pleased your Mum enjoys the regular animal visits.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. I am sorry to see you and your mother were unhappy with Oakdale during her respite stay with us, and we sincerely apologise that her stay did not meet your expectations. It’s disappointing that we did not have the chance to discuss the issues with you whilst your mother was with us. Unfortunately, during her stay, increased Covid prevention measures were in place and so your mother was unable to experience everything our home has to offer. However, I am pleased to see you were satisfied with the rooms and the cleanliness of our home – both are things that our team pride themselves on. We genuinely appreciate all feedback from our customers as it helps us to raise standards across all of our homes.
Firstly, thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention, I found our telephone conversation very useful. We take all feedback very seriously, and we apologise sincerely that our service standards and levels of care have not met your expectation.
As we discussed during our call, I am investigating all of the points that you raised with our management team, and will ensure that the required improvements are made. Our aim is to continually improve, and deliver high quality and person-centred care. As such, feedback from customers helps us to raise the standards across all of our homes.

Lesley says: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. My focus is on making those moments matter for our residents.”
Lesley has spent her whole career in care, with her roles taking her from nurse training to owning her own business in domiciliary care. She joins Oakdale having managed other nursing homes, and dementia-specific homes and has also owned and operated domiciliary care agencies throughout the southwest of England.
She believes that being a strong team is important and that managers in care must be “everything and more” to their team, to residents and to their families.
