Oakdale is a caring community that really goes above and beyond. They have taken the time to get to know my father and all his little quirks and treat him with great care and attention. The Care Home is frequently thematically decorated. Yesterday, everywhere was filled with red for Valentine's Day.
It looked lovely. There is a warm welcome every time I visit, and there's always time for a chat or any questions. Activities, food, housekeeping and admin all add to the excellent care that my father is receiving from the nursing staff and carers. Well done, everyone!
Reply from Lesley Brock, General Manager at Oakdale Care HomeWe're delighted to hear that your father is happy and well-cared for. Our team works hard to create a positive and engaging atmosphere, and we're thrilled that it's making a difference. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Mum has been in care since July 2024. There have been some problems with laundry going missing and some instances where the food could be better. However, the care Mum has received has been amazing. Her health and mobility has improved and she enjoys the company of others and the staff. All the staff
are so welcoming to relatives and Mum always comments on how friendly and helpful they are. Mum is very happy.
Reply from Lesley Brock, Manager at Oakdale Care HomeThank you so much for your feedback about your mum's stay. We are thrilled to hear that your mum is happy here and that her health and mobility have improved since joining us. We understand your concerns regarding laundry. We have increased the size of our housekeeping team to address these issues, and we are pleased to see a significant improvement in this area. Regarding food, we always offer alternative menus to cater to individual dietary needs and preferences. We have also recently addressed the menus to ensure they are both nutritious and appealing.

My husband and I recently visited Oakdale for the first time to see a cousin who had recently been transferred from hospital.
Although ill, he was able to convey how happy he was with the care being provided and felt very fortunate to be ending his days in such beautiful surroundings. We were so impressed
with the quality of environment, inside and out. Staff were very welcoming, personable and caring.

I do not know how this establishment is allowed to care for people with dementia. My experience shows they haven't got a clue as many of the staff are not trained to care for people with dementia. They have a fun day to raise funds but in any care home where the management has any sense, it would not
be appropriate as residents with dementia would become distressed with the proceedings. Avoid at all costs.
Reply from Lesley Brock, Manager at Oakdale Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your concerns about Oakdale Care Home. We would like to clarify that there have been no records of you having any involvement with the home over the past year. We take all feedback seriously and are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our residents. Our staff undergo regular training, including dementia care, to ensure they are equipped to meet the needs of our residents. We understand that fundraising events can be challenging for residents with dementia, and we carefully consider the suitability of such events.

The Oakdale Care Home took in my mother-in-law at short notice due to a traumatic experience in another home. The staff were extremely welcoming and went out of their way to make this respite experience a great one. The luxury accommodation and gardens are superb. The permanent residents seem at home
and enjoy the activities, food and care. It is a difficult time for vulnerable adults to be in a different environment to their one home with strangers but Oakdale has really tried to make this transition work. The nurse is also available 24 hours which is added reassurance as my mother-in-law was recovering from an acute illness and needed reablement to be independent again at home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.780)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.780) out of 10 for Oakdale Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.780 for Oakdale Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (371 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 440 Ratings = 4.78
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakdale Care Home is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 84 registered maximum number of service users is 16.8, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lesley says: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. My focus is on making those moments matter for our residents.”

Lesley has spent her whole career in care, with her roles taking her from nurse training to owning her own business in domiciliary care. She joins Oakdale having managed other nursing homes, and dementia-specific homes and has also owned and operated domiciliary care agencies throughout the southwest of England.

She believes that being a strong team is important and that managers in care must be “everything and more” to their team, to residents and to their families.
