From all the reports I received Mum had a lovely time enjoying the company and activities. She loved her room and the home and enjoyed the view and gardens. The staff were very friendly and attentive and happy to give updates. We would definitely come again.

Our mum arrived in a very sad and confused state. She has been in Oakdale for eight weeks now. The care she receives is first class. She is treated with dignity and genuine kindness. Her room is always fresh and clean, and her clothing is always freshly laundered. Her emotional state has lifted, showing
us lots of smiles and a sense of being settled, giving all of her family total peace of mind.

I cannot praise the home and staff enough. Everyone was friendly, helpful and cheerful. My husband was cared for with love and kindness. He thought of it as home. I am so grateful he spent his last days within this happy environment.

My husband who has Alzheimer's spent two weeks respite at the Oakdale Care Home. As soon as he saw his room he said how lucky he was to have such a lovely good-sized bedroom and a large wet room. He was also very pleased with his large wall-mounted television and he was fascinated with his touch bedside
light. He was very pleased to see such a large and light residents' lounge. I was told that my husband enjoyed his food and ate very well. He had the continuity of his personal care and I much appreciate all the care and attention that was given to him during his stay to make it a happy experience. In the afternoons there were activities which he enjoyed participating in. Whenever I visited him he was happy.
Reply from Lesley Brock, Home Manager at Oakdale Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time to leave us this valuable feedback. We're so pleased your husband enjoyed his stay with us and felt comfortable and happy here. Residents' wellbeing is our absolute priority but we hope it also gave you peace of mind that he was in safe hands. Providing reassurance for loved ones is also incredibly important to us. Thank you again for your kind review.

Always welcoming to visit. Staff friendly.
Home is always decorated to a high standard e.g. Halloween, Remembrance Day, Christmas.
The Remembrance Day was exceptional. The staff put in such an effort. The buffet was one of the best I have had!

My experience of Oakdale Care Home is just five visits in the last 12 months since my long term friend became a resident at. He suffers from mobility issues and I can only comment on what I've observed but the home has really good premises, feels welcoming with friendly and caring staff who look after
my friend well. The whole atmosphere suggests the home is well-managed. Special praise for the ambience and decorations at the Remembrance Day medals presentation and also for the current Christmas sparkle that is clear for all to enjoy. Overall it is a pleasure to visit Oakdale.

Over the last few years, we have visited two very good friends. Unfortunately, one passed away a month ago but was very well looked after till the end. They died peacefully at Oakdale. Our other friend loves it here. We visit regularly, and our friend is always clean. Happy and says how lucky she is
to be here.

I was a resident for two weeks of respite care, which overall was a good experience. The one thing I felt let it down was the food. The lack of fresh vegetables and basic quality was not good.
The bistro was very welcoming to any visitors.
Reply from Lesley Brock, Home Manager at Oakdale Care HomeThank you for your valuable feedback. We are very sorry that the dining experience did not meet your expectations. To ensure that improvements are made, we have put in place food feedback forms and have set up a food committee, which meets every month to review the comments with the Head Chef and myself. We also have our menus displayed on every floor, including the bistro menu, which ensures different choices of meals are always on offer. Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We take all feedback very seriously and are committed to improving our service to residents.

I have been visiting my good friend since she has been in the care home nearly every week. When my friend came in she wasn't looking too good but the improvement in how well she looks is amazing. The staff are really lovely and kind. All the activities and entertainers they provide are so good for them.
Well done to all concerned!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.780)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.780) out of 10 for Oakdale Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.780 for Oakdale Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (371 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 440 Ratings = 4.78
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakdale Care Home is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 84 registered maximum number of service users is 16.8, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lesley says: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. My focus is on making those moments matter for our residents.”

Lesley has spent her whole career in care, with her roles taking her from nurse training to owning her own business in domiciliary care. She joins Oakdale having managed other nursing homes, and dementia-specific homes and has also owned and operated domiciliary care agencies throughout the southwest of England.
