Overall Experience
From the moment we stepped into Murrayside less than 8 weeks ago, we had a feeling that this home was just wonderful. The light, bright, airy nature of the building gives a very pleasing and positive welcome; a welcome which was mirrored by the enthusiastic yet empathetic staff who showed us around.
The rooms are very well-appointed and freshly decorated to a high standard, with shower room en suite, while there is a good choice of sitting and activity rooms for social events.
Since taking residency, we are delighted with the professional, yet gently discreet, care that is given by all the staff who seem genuinely happy in their work. Attention to detail concerning each individual is carefully assessed, monitored and any queries quickly communicated with the next of kin.
Much thought and imagination has gone into providing exceptional care facilities and fun.

I can't recommend Murrayside more highly as we are simply delighted.

Overall Experience

It is a pleasure to post a review of this lovely care home which has so far been an extremely positive experience for our mother who has Alzheimers. Her arrival was dramatic but staff supported us in the transition with the utmost professionalism and kindness and compassion. Our mother was welcomed with open arms and has thrived ever since. Her room is a haven, a restful, calming place with a lovely view. The dining room and lounge areas are homely and the food, by all accounts, fantastic. Mum has been busy since her arrival, playing the piano, singing, baking, exercising, hosting her visitors in the cafe, dancing on the Ratho barge and even eating fish n chips in Anstruther. She also watched the Festival fireworks from the cafe terrace which has a spectacular view of Edinburgh castle. The staff are consummate professionals with a relaxed and friendly approach to care. We can’t fault them. The experience for our mother so far has been wonderful and long may it continue. Thank you.

It was a hard decision to put my mum into a nursing home. The staff, especially one particular nurse, have been fantastic with her and although she did not find it easy to settle at first they have been lovely to her. They are also very helpful and kind to my dad when he visits daily.
Everyone is very friendly and the standards of the home are excellent.

She enjoys her meals and is looking forward to going out in the new mini-bus.

After some initial teething problems settling Dad into the new routines, Dad has now settled in well. He gets full nursing care and all the staff are professional and caring. The facilities at Murrayside are excellent, and Dad looks forward to every mealtime due to the high standard of food, especially soups and the varied menu. I can't praise the staff highly enough, I can relax knowing that he's being extremely well cared for by superb nurses.

My father has now been at Murrayside for over a month now. He suffers from dementia and from the first day he arrived, he was treated like a member of the Murrayside Family. Every single member of staff is an absolute credit to the care home. The care home has a home from home feel, everyone has their own room that they can be personalised to them and make them feel at home and ease, it has lots of space and just a lovely atmosphere. Also, would like to mention the work that goes into the meals, they are fresh and nutritional.

When my family and I understood my dad had to be admitted to a care home, this can be a very stressful time for anyone and Murrayside really helped us make the right choice and getting the best care we could have ever asked for. We have already seen changes in him with interacting more with all staff and other residents and more mobility. I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone who is looking for a care home for their loved ones.

My father, who has dementia, has been at Murrayside for several months now. The standard of care is excellent and the nursing support is second to none. I haven't met a single person who isn't kind and caring towards my father. They have a whole host of activities to keep the residents active and engaged and there is always something to do.

The facilities are fantastic - more five-star hotel than care home. There are lots of little rooms where you can have privacy or a wee family celebration, hairdressers, a lovely café and regular visits from podiatrists and others. The food is excellent, with a varied and nutritious menu which the catering staff clearly take great pride in. They treat my father with great dignity and are extremely accommodating towards relatives. You can visit whenever you like and dogs are allowed in - which is important to my father. So in summary - great facilities, great food and wonderful staff.

From the moment we first stepped through the front door, we knew Murrayside was the place for our mother. There was a warm welcome from the Customer Services Manager, followed by a tour where we admired the modern facility and comfortable rooms, all tastefully decorated and pleasantly light and bright. It was obvious from observing the interactions between the staff and residents that this was a place full of love and caring people, a place our mother would feel at home.
After 3 months, Murrayside and the staff have exceeded our expectations and our mother could not be happier. Kudos to the chefs who have gone out of their way to accommodate some special dietary needs. There are numerous and varied social activities on offer, but there are also smaller spaces for a quiet chat with a friend. Visitors are always welcome and can have coffee in the cafe or even stay and share a meal.

I would not hesitate to recommend Murrayside to anyone looking for a place for a loved one.

My father has been in this care home for little over a month now, he suffers from dementia and since his arrival here, he has been really well looked after by everyone concerned. The home itself is lovely, spacious and the individual rooms are perfect.

Already we have seen a change in my dad, he's more mobile and interacts with staff and other residents. Everyone at the care home has been great and it has taken away a lot of the stress that me and my family have been under since we knew that my dad had to be admitted to care. I cannot recommend this care home highly enough.

What a wonderful caring, homily place Murrayside is. From the first day, my father and our family has been warmly welcomed by the caring, friendly, professional staff and has quickly settled to become members of the Murrayside family. Nothing is too much bother and visitors are warmly welcomed by all staff. Weekly activities are well organised and entertaining! It’s lovely to see my father so engaged and involved, really enjoying his life. The chefs should be commended for their superb menu which is always appetising and varied and the housekeeping team for their attention to detail. The home manager should be justly proud of her team and the positive ethos she has developed. Murrayside is a happy place to be!

It’s now been almost six months since Dad joined the Murrayside residents, so I thought it would be useful to submit an update. Dad continues to receive the highest level of care and has never looked better, cleaner and seems much happier than he has been for many years. As a ninety plus resident, he enjoys a stimulating environment with good food, excellent care staff and diligent supervision delivered in a friendly, respectful and very personal way. The family enjoy going to see Dad in his new environment and, in particular, value sitting in the residents' coffee lounge, with its wonderful views of the castle and Edinburgh whilst chatting privately with Dad about what he’s done over the few days since we were last in - the gentle informality and calmness of the home works so well. The staff have created a superb environment and, for Dad, it’s working very well - a great testament to the quality of staff and management involved. Well done.

The staff are impressive in their warmth, care and encouragement to the residents (and visitors!). The residents are treated with respect and a genuine desire and willingness to help are very obvious. The decor and facilities show that much sensitive thinking has been applied to the construction of Murrayside. My sister's initial nervousness has disappeared. The staff, the other residents and visitors ensure she has a cheerful and busy day. She thinks the food is wonderful.

I’m a qualified Registered General Nurse and I joined Care UK in 2015. I’d been working as an agency nurse prior to that but I felt it was time to find a permanent role and really settle into the adult care sector. I think as a home manager it’s important to know the residents and the colleagues in your team. They are central to delivering the best care, so ensuring they’re happy and content is all-important.

The best part of any day is the opportunity to chat with my team and our wonderful residents and their families. It’s important we feel like one big family at Murrayside, so spending time together is key to that. This is a fantastic care home and I’m exciting about leading the team to even greater things.

Away from my job I enjoy walking. I’m very into the Step Challenge and enjoy creating some healthy competition with colleagues, friends and family with that. I also enjoy socialising with friends and family whenever I can.

I moved sector and city when I joined the Murrayside team in 2020, I used to be the Trainee Manager of a five-star hotel in Aberdeen. When the pandemic started, I decided it was time for a change, and here I am.

I’m so grateful that I made the move into care, and came back to Edinburgh. I started out at Murrayside as a Receptionist/Administrator and I’ve worked my way up the ladder. It was a huge career highlight for me to be promoted into my current role as Customer Relations Manager at Murrayside.

I feel huge pride in being part of the Murrayside family. I love showing people around our amazing home, introducing them to the team, and showing them everything we have to offer. When I can, I enjoy chatting to residents and even getting involved in activities. I love seeing the residents making the most of each day.
