I doubt whether there is a better care home in the area than Murrayside. Staff are very caring, proof of this is that I stayed myself for a month after my wife died there, after 15-months with a terminal brain disease. The support I got in that initial period of bereavement (and as a resident myself
for the last eight weeks of her life) was hugely comforting. It has an optimistic feel to the place - comfortable, well-planned premises with cheerful, even funky decor, and rooms are well lit. Activities were more limited than normal due to Covid, but more exercises tailored to the resident's individual need would be beneficial.
Reply from Gillian Gray, Customer Relations Manager at MurraysideThank you for your very kind review. It was a privilege for us to care for your wife during the last chapter of her life and we were thankful that you were also able to be here with her during the final two months. We are very proud of our team at Murrayside, for all the work they do, and your feedback will be much appreciated by all during what has been a very difficult year in so many ways.

We are very grateful for the tremendous efforts of many kind and caring staff at Murrayside who pulled out all the stops despite their very busy schedules to make mum’s 90th birthday a day to remember. We particularly appreciated the effort that went into setting up a Zoom call so that all her children
and grandchildren from 4 countries on different continents could partake in virtual celebrations to give her birthday messages. The care home really did so much more than we had expected. Our thanks also goes to manager who is clearly doing an amazing and difficult job during Covid.
Reply from Gillian Gray, Customer Relations Manager at MurraysideThank you so much for taking the time to provide this lovely review. We are all delighted that your mother's birthday celebrations went well and that she was able to see and speak with all her family via Zoom! She certainly said that she had a lovely day - as we all did too! Your kind comments are much appreciated by all the team at Murrayside. A nice 'boost' during these difficult times.

My father has dementia and been in the care home since July 2020. Despite Covid restrictions the staff have always been absolutely super with both him and the rest of the family. He recently celebrated a birthday, and they made a real fuss of him, with a banner, balloons and a cake. He had a lovely
time, though by the next day he had forgotten all about it! Though my father has very limited memory or understanding of a lot of things now, he always says that everything about the care home is lovely and he can’t fault it at all.
Reply from Gillian Gray, Customer Relations Manager at MurraysideThank you so much for providing a review. It is a pleasure for our team to look after your father. He is always so appreciative. We particularly enjoyed seeing his response to his birthday celebrations. Our team will be delighted to read your kind comments.

My wonderful father resided in Murrayside from January 2020 until his 98-year-old heart stopped beating in his sleep on 4 January 2021, fortunately not from COVID. It is extremely sad that the last year has meant he didn’t have the experience in Murrayside which we had all hoped for but everyone did
their best to keep all the residents safe and to help them celebrate their individual joys. The staff in Roseburn Suite made his time there as joyful as possible. All staff were so supportive to me during his stay too.
Reply from Gillian Gray, Customer Relations Manager at MurraysideThank you for your kind review. It was a real privilege for us to share your father's last year of his life, at Murrayside. He was so well-liked by staff and other residents alike and we do miss his gentle manner and sense of humour. We realise how difficult the past year has been for residents and their families alike but our staff will very much appreciate your lovely comments.

My grandmother moved into Murrayside Care Home in October 2020, and the process for moving her in was made very easy and straightforward by the care home management team, especially when they're also dealing with a pandemic. A special thank you to the customer relations manager who was our main contact
throughout this process. My grandmother has really gone from strength to strength and recently celebrated her 100th birthday which again was made very special by all staff at the care home. I would also like to thank all care home staff who are in regular daily contact with my gran. There seems to be a lot of laughs and banter as witnessed by us on our weekly Skype calls and through the window visits.
I really look forward to the day when we as a family can actually get into the care home and thank the staff personally.
Thank you for everything you've done to date.
Reply from Gillian Gray, Customer Relations Manager at MurraysideThank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback. This will be much appreciated by all our staff for whom the past year has been a real challenge. We are so pleased that your grandmother has settled in very well and is enjoying the company of her fellow residents and the staff who care for her. We look forward to meeting you, inside the care home, once this is possible!

Murrayside is an extremely well run residence with very dedicated and imaginative staff. The facilities and activities available for residents are wide ranging and encourage friendship and companionship within the residents and staff. It is a home that truly cares. It is the best care home I have visited
over the past 20 years.

Our family chose Murrayside care home firstly because of the exceptionally caring and friendly staff. The atmosphere from the minute you stepped over the threshold was bright, professional and positive. Every aspect of the design layout was perfect and the interior design was thoughtfully themed, tasteful,
but also felt cosy, homely and fresh, where family and friends felt welcome and at ease, with lovely gardens.
The head chef took time to discover what were her favourite dishes and went out of his way to tempt her and the housekeeping team kept everything immaculate.
Murrayside was able to provide the specialised care, after suffering a major stroke, which left her almost totally dependent on the nursing team and carers.
The level of care was second to none and as a family, we were extremely grateful for her end of life care. Both she and the close family were given excellent emotional support by the nurses and carers with many showing exceptional qualities of dedication and a true vocation.

My mother has been a resident of Murrayside since early 2019 and our family has been delighted with how well she has settled in over the past 15 months. The staff have cared for mum exceptionally well and some are now more like close friends to her. The management team and others are also always available
to relatives to discuss any issue at any time. I cannot recommend Murrayside highly enough and am so pleased that we selected it as mum’s new home.

I am not here for care or nursing. I have come to reside here to be near my wife who needs care and nursing.
Thus I have been receiving all services such as foods, room service, laundry etc.
I had previously submitted a review of the care and services of my wife. This review is about my own services.
They have been superb! I have no complaints other than the fact that when other residents press their panic button at night, and this happens rather frequently, I wake up.
Reply from Gillian Gray, Customer Relations Manager at MurraysideThank you so much for your very kind review. Obviously, we have to have our 'call' system operational during the night for other residents but we will discuss with you ways in which this disturbance can be minimised to allow you a good night's sleep. We will pass on your positive comments to all our team.

I am so pleased with the care provided. The staff have talked to me about the medicine for my wife via the doctors. I know how difficult it is doing things, shaving three times a week, cooking meals, washing clothes, I was under stress not having the responsibility to care for my wife now. The management
of Murrayside have helped me to overcome this and to understand the care procedure. The staff now deal with my wife's clothes and are very caring. It takes time to understand how everything works, visiting times and meeting people who have been going through this - just like me.

My mum has been a resident at Murrayside for just over 12 months. During that time she has been happy, well cared for in a friendly environment. The rooms are well equipped and the staff are generally caring and sensitive. Just two comments - My mum is frail but is mentally 'on the ball' so finds some
of the activities unchallenging. Second - The food could be plainer. Old folk don't want fancy menus - the simpler the better.

Murrayside Care Home in Edinburgh offers a warm and friendly atmosphere from the moment you enter the building. The rooms are lovely with en suite facilities and call buttons. The dining room is worthy of a hotel and the day room is large and welcoming.
There is always plenty of staff on hand to greet
visitors and keep an eye on residents. Activities are varied and interesting with a full chart of upcoming events prepared every week for the benefit of residents and visitors. The grounds are well maintained and bird feeders attract not only the feathered but also many bouncy squirrels which provide hours of fun to those who see them.
Religious services are available weekly and a cinema provides a big-screen treat every week.

I am a home carer with another company. I was fortunate enough to be kept on by the family of my client/friend after he moved to Murrayside. I continue to visit him twice weekly.

From the moment we stepped into Murrayside less than 8 weeks ago, we had a feeling that this home was just wonderful. The light, bright, airy nature of the building gives a very pleasing and positive welcome; a welcome which was mirrored by the enthusiastic yet empathetic staff who showed us around.
The rooms are very well-appointed and freshly decorated to a high standard, with shower room en suite, while there is a good choice of sitting and activity rooms for social events.
Since taking residency, we are delighted with the professional, yet gently discreet, care that is given by all the staff who seem genuinely happy in their work. Attention to detail concerning each individual is carefully assessed, monitored and any queries quickly communicated with the next of kin.
Much thought and imagination has gone into providing exceptional care facilities and fun.
I can't recommend Murrayside more highly as we are simply delighted.

It is a pleasure to post a review of this lovely care home which has so far been an extremely positive experience for our mother who has Alzheimers. Her arrival was dramatic but staff supported us in the transition with the utmost professionalism and kindness and compassion. Our mother was welcomed
with open arms and has thrived ever since. Her room is a haven, a restful, calming place with a lovely view. The dining room and lounge areas are homely and the food, by all accounts, fantastic. Mum has been busy since her arrival, playing the piano, singing, baking, exercising, hosting her visitors in the cafe, dancing on the Ratho barge and even eating fish n chips in Anstruther. She also watched the Festival fireworks from the cafe terrace which has a spectacular view of Edinburgh castle. The staff are consummate professionals with a relaxed and friendly approach to care. We can’t fault them. The experience for our mother so far has been wonderful and long may it continue. Thank you.

It was a hard decision to put my mum into a nursing home. The staff, especially one particular nurse, have been fantastic with her and although she did not find it easy to settle at first they have been lovely to her. They are also very helpful and kind to my dad when he visits daily.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2021

I’m a qualified Registered General Nurse and I joined Care UK in 2015. I’d been working as an agency nurse prior to that but I felt it was time to find a permanent role and really settle into the adult care sector. I think as a home manager it’s important to know the residents and the colleagues in your team. They are central to delivering the best care, so ensuring they’re happy and content is all-important.

The best part of any day is the opportunity to chat with my team and our wonderful residents and their families. It’s important we feel like one big family at Murrayside, so spending time together is key to that. This is a fantastic care home and I’m exciting about leading the team to even greater things.

Away from my job I enjoy walking. I’m very into the Step Challenge and enjoy creating some healthy competition with colleagues, friends and family with that. I also enjoy socialising with friends and family whenever I can.

Job Title: Customer Relations Manager

I moved sector and city when I joined the Murrayside team in 2020, I used to be the Trainee Manager of a five-star hotel in Aberdeen. When the pandemic started, I decided it was time for a change, and here I am.

I’m so grateful that I made the move into care, and came back to Edinburgh. I started out at Murrayside as a Receptionist/Administrator and I’ve worked my way up the ladder. It was a huge career highlight for me to be promoted into my current role as Customer Relations Manager at Murrayside.

I feel huge pride in being part of the Murrayside family. I love showing people around our amazing home, introducing them to the team, and showing them everything we have to offer. When I can, I enjoy chatting to residents and even getting involved in activities. I love seeing the residents making the most of each day.
