Mountbatten Grange is a newly built care home that has been well designed with great attention to detail to cater for residents with dementia. I know my mum is being well looked after by the friendly and caring staff, which is a big relief. Thanks!

Both my mother and father are at Mountbatten Grange. The quality of the home and care received is very good, although expensive. Whilst I am overall very pleased with the home I have two issues:
1. I think the home is slightly understaffed. This is based on comments from my father, who says at times he is left unattended.

2. Both my parents receive nursing care. I would expect a monthly update on their condition, especially my mother who has Parkinson's disease and has been debilitated by a stroke. The local doctor makes weekly visits but we do not get any feedback unless we ask. She recently had a change of medication but we were not informed.

Thank you for your review, we’re pleased to hear that you’re very happy with the care and quality of the home and to see your good scores, particularly for the team, dignity and support the home provides. I would like to reassure you that we are not understaffed in any way – when you visit the home...

Mum wanted to be at home, of course she did, but if you cannot look after yourself at home what a lovely place to call home. Staff were friendly, loving and caring. The place was clean, welcoming and smelt nice, her room was lovely and a good size. We tried with mum in a different home at first but it didn't feel right. Once she was in Mountbatten Grange we all felt much happier. You have to choose the right home for your family and we know we did. Thank you.

Mountbatten Grange is a very friendly and supportive care home. My Mum has settled in as well as can be expected given her dementia, and we enjoy visiting her there much more than we used to when she was living alone. This is primarily because we now know she is safe where she is, and well looked after. The staff at the home are helpful and dedicated, and responsive when we have any questions about Mum. The only recent disappointment has been not being able to eat in the dining room with Mum, but as this is due to a request from residents to be just residents at meal times this has to be respected.

Christmas day lunch with Mum was the best we have had for years. She ate all three courses and chatted away happily. This may seem normal, but for the last year, all she has eaten are sandwiches, so to see her enjoy a balanced, healthy meal and enjoy it was something that will stay with me for a long time. Thank you to all the staff at Mountbatten Grange for making this happen.

My aunt is being very well cared for in her new home. She takes part in all the many activities and is thriving in her new environment.

It was a wrench for her leaving her old home of 60 years but she is now looking forward to her future - safe and secure.

I was in Mountbatten Grange for respite care following a breakage and 6 weeks of immobility. I found Mountbatten Grange a very welcoming environment and very comfortable. The staff were all very kind and dealt with intimate functions with total diplomacy.

When Mum came here, she was scared, confused and did not want to leave her home. However, the patient, personal and sensitive care of all the staff transformed her. You opened up the last days of her life, to friendships and fun, giving her back the dignity and independence she had lost through her illness. We can never thank you enough, you were all exemplary.

My daughter and I viewed Mountbatten Grange in March 19 we were immediately impressed with the staff and carers on duty. We were given freedom to view all accommodation and immediately realised we had at last found the right place where we would be happy for my beloved husband to receive the professional nursing and care need at this time. To you all a simple thank you.

Have found Mountbatten Grange to exceed all expectations. My father only here for two weeks but the care and attention was 100%. Not only did my father benefit but also the understanding by everyone to care for him which helped enormously.

Deciding to put a loved one into a care home is never an easy decision for families. From the very first visit to her admission, Mum has been treated with the utmost respect and kindness. Mum has flourished within the 5 weeks she has been here, loves the activities, enjoys the company of the other residents. Staff always have time for her, no matter what time of day. Truly has been the best decision for Mum.

Meet the Team (1)

Debbie Winwood
Debbie WinwoodJob Title Home Manager

I started my career in care in 2001 and joined the Care UK team in 2006. What really stands out for me about Mountbatten Grange is its homely atmosphere. Family members can visit whenever they want and are always guaranteed a lovely welcome.

My goal at work every day is to make sure every resident is happy and enjoying a stimulating, fulfilling life. I think the only way to achieve this is by making sure that each resident receives truly individualised care from people who’ve invested time in really getting to know them, their needs and their experiences. It’s also important to me that family members are happy with the care that their loved one is receiving. Getting great feedback from relatives is very rewarding for everyone on our team.

Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors, taking walks, going for bike rides and generally spending time in the countryside. Many residents enjoy spending time outdoors too, so we like to get out and about as much as possible, in the local area and also to the coast.
