My mum received fantastic care from Cramond. Lovely carers and a very well managed home. The home and garden are beautiful and she settled very quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. Mum spoke highly of the meals too. Just one minor complaint, I think she could have been taken out more on trips but otherwise I would thoroughly recommend .

My family booked me into Cramond following a 4wks stay in hospital following a small bowel resection. Had a few complications and in need of some TLC. Cramond staff put me onto the "Road to recovery" Quickly sorted out my bowel problems, helped me shower, made sure I had sufficient food & drink. The physio was excellent, and was able to swap my zimmer for a stick. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and professional. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Cramond Residence and have no hesitation in recommending them.

My dad recently spent seven weeks at Cramond Residence for respite care after a hospital stay and severe back pain. From our first enquiry to the day he left, the level of care was exceptional. The staff team are outstanding and you can see how happy they are in their roles, which speaks volumes about the quality of training and the strength of the leadership team. Their kindness, professionalism and attention to detail made my dad, and all of us as a family, feel incredibly welcome and reassured.

The nursing and care team consistently went the extra mile, and the physiotherapists from Balanced helped him regain strength and confidence. The home is beautiful, with modern rooms, excellent food, lovely lounges and stunning gardens where we enjoyed time together. My dad met so many wonderful staff and residents that he was sad to leave, and we are deeply grateful for the care that helped him return to independent living. I would highly recommend Cramond Residence for a loved one.

Our Mum was in Cramond Residence for 3.5 years and her care was excellent. The staff are wonderful and as turnover was low (in our experience), there was consistency and stability.
The rooms are lovely, the facilities excellent, there are activities to suit every interest, and the food is top quality with a wide choice of options.
Our mum gradually needed more and more care, and they responded quickly and sensitively as this evolved. She was treated with respect, compassion and dignity at all times.
If I were to sum up what makes Cramond special, it's that they cared for our Mum wonderfully but they also cared about her as a person. They did so many things that went over and above, and we will be forever grateful for that.

We are so glad we chose Cramond Residence for our Mum.

The room was comfortable and well lit, and the bathroom well appointed.
The staff was friendly and attentive, and all knew my name.
Meals were varied and above average in quality.
At mealtimes in the dining room there were sometime interesting conversations about Scotland in general and individual experiences.

The "lifestyle program" was entertaining and not too crowded.

As all four of my immediate family were flying out to Barcelona to spend Christmas with my eldest niece, I decided that, rather than have them worrying about me and me worrying about myself, I would seek two weeks respite care at the Cramond Residence. Having driven past this building many times and admired its design I was curious to experience the inside.
I am a wheelchair user suffering from the late effect of polio. After a through tour of the home conducted by the manager,. myself and my sister and brother in law were most impressed and I secured a room for the Christmas holiday.
My residence was a marvellous experience. The staff were nothing short of brilliant. Wheelchair accessibility was excellent. The kitchen produced fantastic meals to a very varied menu. Alcohol was provided, so seeing it was Christmas I had a glass of wine with every meal.

The Cramond Residence is at the top end of care home market and is not inexpensive, but in my opinion worth every penny.

My uncle of 98 years old needed respite care after a hospital stay. It was an urgent admission as my uncle was unable to go home. The staff helped us immediately with the admission and in 5 days my uncle moved to Cramond Residence. The staff are great. They are very caring and supportive of my uncle and me. As I'm living abroad it's a pleasure to read the progress reports on the app twice a day. Communication is very good, any concerns are addressed immediately. The staff is very warm and welcoming, also for me as a relative. My uncle sees the physiotherapist multiple times a week to help him improve his simple dayly movement around the residence. The catering is excellent. The staff really look to the individual behind the eldery person and tries to comfort him with long talks about his family, former worklife and interests. They take him on activities that suit him. I hope I'll find I place like this when I'm old.

My mother had sepsis following a knee replacement and spent 6 weeks in hospital receiving treatment.
Cramond was the bridge that we needed for her rehabilitation and to assist with her recovery between being discharged from hospital and returning home.

Cramond Residence was a life saver for us after we needed to find someone urgently for my mother-in-law to have post-operative care, following an accident on a holiday in Scotland. They were incredibly quick to respond to our enquiry and as the only private care home in Edinburgh they could not have been more helpful.
My mother in law received excellent care and most importantly frequent physio which meant she was able to up and about far quicker than in usual circumstances.

I would recommend Cramond to anyone looking for exceptional care, comfort and rehabilitation for their elderly relative in Edinburgh.

The pre-admission support was excellent. An urgent admission was required as my relative was in hospital and unable to go home. Admission was excellent. Staff were very supportive of my relative and me.
Cramond undertook all organising and naming of clothing with great care and attention to detail.

Any concerns were addressed immediately and feedback was provided in detail by email. Communication is very good, by phone, email or by the App and a second App. The daily progress reports are what I find most helpful. The staff take a great pride in what they do and are always professional and very pleasant. I feel I can trust them to take good care of my relative. They provide ongoing support to my relative and me. Visitors are welcomed and reassured. The activities are fun, enjoyable, stimulating and well planned. The overall atmosphere is very good.

Dad has been in Cramond for around 12 weeks now, having made the huge decision that he could no longer live independently. What's more he moved a few hundred miles in the process, so the importance of how he was welcomed into the Residence can't be over-estimated. All of the staff, without exception, have been incredible, initially helping with the transition and then ensuring that all of his needs are met and that he is entertained everyday. With a bit of encouragement he has joined more classes and activities than he had done in years! He loves the fresh air, so makes the most of the wonderful garden and its walkway and he makes regular use of the Club Room for big TV events - he likes his sport. Cramond certainly has all the facilities, but above all it's his interaction with the excellent staff, who are so attentive and caring, that sets it apart.

My Mother came to Cramond at the end of May. I was worried with her dementia that she would be confused and want to go home, even though she doesn't really understand any more what 'home' means. However she seems to have settled in extremely well. The staff have been amazing and the facilities are second to none. All the worry of Mum's care has been taken from our shoulders and the feeling that she is being well cared for has been a huge sense of relief for us.

My 96 year old mother moved to Cramond Residence in May 2025 from Leeds. It was a huge life event for her and required careful planning. The manager understood our situation and was helpful and flexible in making plans. A room was reserved for her in advance and communications were good.

Since her arrival, my mother has been treated with kindness, care and respect at all times. The staff have gone out of their way to make her feel at home, encouraging her to join in with activities when she feels able. She has commented on what a happy place Cramond Residence feels, from her point of view, and she enjoys chatting with other residents at mealtimes. The food is excellent and she has gained weight in the first few weeks . The nursing staff are proactive in contacting GPs about any medical needs and she has received excellent medical care (without my involvement). Her room is spacious and clean and the grounds provide an outdoor space for short walks. Highly recommended.

I spent two weeks at Cramond Residence for rehabilitation after hip replacement surgery. My stay there enabled me to recover quickly. I was picked up from the hospital after my surgery, and was taken home after my stay at Cramond. The care from all staff was exceptional and it was reassuring to have nursing staff and physios there as well as care staff. I was really well looked after with professionalism friendliness and kindness. I have been very moved by my stay, and thank everyone. I could not have recovered so quickly without you all. The food was also great (compliments to the chefs and catering staff), as was my rainforest shower with a seat in my accessible bathroom. Cramond Residence is divided up into several corridors with their own lounges - the spaces are intimate and familiar with lovely decor. There is also a great cafe for residents and visitors. I would definitely consider returning to Cramond Residence when I get my other hip replaced in a year or so!

In early February my wife (90) and I (91) had a fortnight's respite care break in Cramond Residences to rest and recharge our batteries. They have us this and we were very pleased by how well they looked after us.
The caring and nursing staff were extremely attentive and took a real interest in us, even though we were only short-term residents. The rooms were quite large and well-furnished, with very good beds. There was a comfortable lounge nearby, where we had our meals. There were other lounges too, and a very pleasant garden.
However, not all was perfect -
-The shower controls were stiff and difficult to move.
-Switches for bedside lamps could only be comfortably reached by getting out of bed.
- My wife has arthritic hands and found the button on the call bracelet very difficult to operate.
-Little things spoiled some of the breakfasts - everything was brought at the same time which meant that by the time you had eaten cereal, hot courses and drinks had gone cold.

These criticisms do not outweigh the overall very good standards of Cramond Residences. We benefitted greatly from our stay and are very grateful to all with whom we had dealings.

Daniela Zampieri
Daniela ZampieriJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2019

I support the General Manager with the running of Cramond Residence and I work at his side to lead and manage the care team.

I’m responsible for providing high-quality and safe care and for monitoring its delivery. I also supervise and support the care team, maintain a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors, and ensure that the Residence complies with the National Care Standards, NMC code of conduct and the requirements of the Care Inspectorate.

I participate in the recruitment and selection of staff and I actively promote the Residence’s objectives – with a view to driving forward the continuous improvement and development of the service we offer, in cooperation with the Management Team.

On a daily basis, I work closely with our charge nurses to manage the various unit teams. My priority is that all residents get the highest possible quality of care.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?

I’m originally from Italy, where I qualified as a nurse in 1997 (I have a Master's Degree in nursing education and management). I also studied Human Resources at university and obtained a second degree in this discipline.

In my career in my home country, I worked in a number of different hospitals and on a range of specialist wards, so I have experience of many types of clinical care.

I came to Scotland with my husband just a few years ago, as we both felt that we wanted to experience a new country and a new culture. We also wanted to improve our English. Since we’ve been here, we’ve been blessed with the arrival of a daughter – a wonderful gift. We love living in Edinburgh, we even love the weather here – the summer in Italy is just too hot!

I started working in the care sector in Scotland as a Unit Manager in 2012 and I have been a Deputy Manager since 2020, just before the pandemic hit. This meant that my last few years working in care have been at a very challenging time, but this has also meant that I have learnt a lot. I began work here at Cramond Residence as Deputy Manager early in 2022.

What do you most like about working at Cramond Residence

I like to make a real difference to people’s lives, especially to elderly people. That’s why I like the fact that Cramond Residence is really focused on providing a high quality of life. Because of this, the Residents are treated as individuals with respect, compassion, honesty and dignity.

In addition, having studied both nursing and human resources at university, I am very pleased that I can combine these two passions and interests in my current job.

At Cramond Residence, we use Personalised Care Plans, as we value people and actively involve them in the planning of their care. This means that every care plan is unique and specific for each person.

To deliver these plans, every single member of the staff works together to achieve the goal of high-quality care and I’m very excited to be part of this great team. We have staff who come from many different backgrounds and who have a wide range of skills – I love to support them in their work, promote their growth and help them succeed.

I also like the tailored training supplied at Cramond Residence, which is definitely one of the key reasons why we are able to achieve excellence in the care we provide.

What motivates you?

I really believe that enhancing people’s quality of life is the most important aspect of the job we do here at Cramond Residence, and that it is how we can make a vital difference in residents’ lives.

What makes people happy can be highly subjective, this is why it is extremely important to actively listen to residents. That’s why we provide an integrated care approach and work as a multidisciplinary team, involving residents, next of kin, GPs, care assistants, nurses, physiotherapists, hospital at home teams, dietitians, etc. This is what really motivates me.

When I worked in hospitals the majority of the people only remained in the wards for a short period of time. At Cramond Residence, I can get to know the residents I look after and help them to live a dignified life. It is wonderful to be able to share their memories, experiences, wishes and expectations.

What else do you like about Cramond Residence?

I really appreciate the fact that Cramond offers residents such a beautiful environment in which they can relax and go about their days.

When it comes to quality of life, I also think that activities are very important. We are therefore working hard to continually improve and enhance the range of events, activities, hobbies and outings that we offer.

Food is another vital part of this jigsaw. For me food should not just be about nutrition (although this is very important) it should also be delicious and enjoyable and mealtimes should be something that people look forward to. At Cramond, we offer delicious food in high quality surroundings. We have lovely cups, plates, cutlery and napkins – it’s little things like this that help people feel more appreciated and more respected.

Are there any aspect of the job that are challenging?

Everything at Cramond Residence works very smoothly because we have some excellent management tools in place, including electronic systems that manage the delivery of medication and the implementation of care plans. However, because these were new systems to me, there was a steep learning curve when I started to use them. Luckily, I had excellent training and everyone was by my side to help me work things out.

I deliver care to our residents, but also make sure that my team of nurses and carers have the right knowledge, skills and experience, so that, together, we do what’s best for the residents and their families. My job therefore involves a fair bit training and, crucially, making sure that staff put their training into practice. If you were to give me a specific label, you would probably describe me as an end of life care specialist. It’s a job I love – I’ve been giving care for over 42 years as a nurse.

Nursing care is quite complex, particularly when you’re supporting residents living with dementia, because you have to think about each individual’s emotional wellbeing, their physical wellbeing, and the fact that the disease process means that one day can be very different to the next. So you have to be able to go with the flow. If it’s a good day for the resident, you should make the most of it, if not, you have to draw on your expertise to help make sure they’re as comfortable as possible.
