Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I am writing this review on behalf of my mum who has recently started to stay in Bickerton. My mum sadly lost her husband (my dad) while in respite care and the care she was receiving wasn’t to the full standard she needed. She came to live with me for a while and came to Bickerton for a stay while
I went away. She enjoyed her stay so much she wanted to stay full time! The staff are incredible at what they do and with my mother having aphasia she struggles in lots of situations, this is not the case here and she has done baking, been to the cinema, made friends and it’s honestly changed her life. The atmosphere is so welcoming and the support the staff provide is more than you could wish for. I couldn’t be happier knowing my mum is here receiving the care she has always needed and giving her the best way of life she has needed this past year.

To find a care home to suit my husband with his advancing Dementia and Parkinsons has been very difficult but to find one that has such lovely decor and rooms, friendly and caring staff, great food and plenty of activities that is so close to home is nothing short of a miracle. My husband is treated
with dignity and respect and I am involved with every step of his care, any problems and I am quickly notified. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for any member of the staff, either for my husband or myself, including my being able to join him for lunch, which I often do. Thank you Bickerton House for caring for my husband - and me.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.860)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.860) out of 10 for Bickerton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.860 for Bickerton House is calculated as follows: ( (287 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 329 Ratings = 4.86
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bickerton House is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

As Home Manager at Bickerton House, the most important part of my role is to make sure residents feel safe.

A big part of what I do is supporting my team. In particular, helping them navigate the healthcare sector which is always growing and developing. With that in mind, you also need to be well-organised and approachable. It helps that I can draw on my 15 years of experience and level five qualification in leadership.

When I first joined Care UK, I did so because its ethos reflected my own values and beliefs. A career highlight for me is the fact I have been able to work my way up through dedication and learning. Now, I feel proud to be part of a strong team that I have also helped grow. For us, it is about celebrating each other’s achievements and seeing how we can do even better.

Every day is different, but my favourite part is being able to spend time with residents and their families. I love finding out about their lives, getting to know them and listening to their wealth of knowledge.

Outside of work, we are an adventurous family and enjoy road trips and holidays. Having a very sporty son also means we spend a lot of time out and about supporting his activities.
