Abbeyfield Speedwell Court

My sister and I are very pleased by the way our mother is being looked after by Speedwell Court. The staff are lovely, caring and responsive to individual needs, the home is spotlessly clean, there are lots of activities for the residents and the range of facilities available is very good.

The Speedwell Court facilitiy is superb. The premises are more like a comfortable hotel than a residential home. My sister is the happiest we have seen her for some time. The carers are clearly happy and are gentle and considerate. It is a relief that my sister is safe, appropriately and professionally cared for. I cannot praise Speedwell Court enough. I would recommend Speedwell Court for anyone with dementia needs.

Every time I visit my friend at the care home the staff are very welcoming, friendly and full of joy. It's really a pleasure to visit a well-run care home which my friend enjoys being there.

Having a look around the care home, it looks very good. If it comes to it, we would very likely consider using it. At the moment we go for dementia meetings and lunch once a month, which are very good and and helpful for meeting people and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

This home is efficiently run with pleasant and approachable staff who are very helpful. It is well-kept and extremely clean. It has a viable kitchen garden with rare breed chickens for interest within a large and relaxing garden. I have been given a conducted tour of the home which is very well facilitated. Community lunches have been sponsored which along with community singing for residents and visiting dementia people is of great support. It allows the exchange of views and experiences. This is associated with a certain organisation. All of this gives huge relief to carers and relatives suffering alike.

The staff are always ready to go the extra mile to make their resident's lives as pleasant as possible.

The sensitivity and care shown by staff at the end of my Mum’s life was exemplary. They treated Mum and my family with the greatest of respect and allowed us the privacy we needed at such a sad time for which I am truly grateful.

Mum moved into Speedwell Court in April, after being given a terminal diagnosis. She was a little reticent at first and wanted to go home but the staff at Speedwell persevered with her and she came round in the end. Her illness has progressed very fast but all the staff have been brilliant. They keep me up to date with how things are going with her and how her medication changes to deal with her pain. They treat my mum with such dignity and make her so comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble. Her room is lovely, very light, modern and airy. The facilities are very good, everywhere is kept clean and you don’t get the feeling that you are in a care home at all, more like a hotel. I would not hesitate in recommending Speedwell Court.

I could ask no more from them they make what is a very sad time for all his family easier to bear.

However, she would have liked the toilet in her room to have been mended sooner as it was not working properly for her entire stay.

My experience has been very enjoyable. The staff are extremely helpful and the home very clean and tidy. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is perfect. My grandchildren loved seeing the chickens in the garden. Newspapers most appreciated. My friends came a week too soon and thought they'd come to the wrong home, having then visited the other local nursing homes, they were both relaxed and delighted that I'm at Speedwell as so much better than the other homes they previously visited.

We have researched/visited many care homes over the years looking for somewhere for respite for my mother after various operations. The Customer Relations Manager at Speedwell Court/Abbeyfield was so helpful and professional that this time we chose Speedwell and I have not been disappointed. All of the staff are excellent and are both professional and friendly and make both my mother's stay and my visits a pleasure. A special thanks to the Deputy Care Manager and another member of staff in particular who have helped with some special requests and a big thank you to the whole team. If Abbeyfield and the Speedwell team were in charge of adult care in the UK our adult care services would be transformed. Thank you!

Our family live in Australia so this was the first time we had been able to have a face-to-face visit and participate in all that Speedwell Court has to offer. We were welcomed and joined in with the activities with my father and other residents. The garden and the cafe were well utilised. The standard of cleanliness high. The care in presentation as well as the genuine care and affection shown to the residents is outstanding. Now we know that Dad is well looked after it helps enormously with peace of mind. The quality of food and the use of vegetables from the garden was also witnessed. The security and safety precautions were very evident - and although Dad is not keen on this aspect - we are! Dealings with staff and management were professional and friendly.

Mum came in after a fall at home and had an operation on her hip. She has been here for a few weeks and has had a special time for her to gain her confidence and to be looked after. We would have no hesitation for her to return, either respite or full-time if needs be. Thank you all again for all your kindness to Mum.

What a lovely place Speedwell Court is, the staff have been absolutely fantastic with my mum, who was only with them for a short time. She needed palliative care at the end and was treated with such dignity and kindness. I was always kept up to date with Mum's condition and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend Speedwell Court.

My friend spent nearly 3 weeks at Abbeyfield Speedwell Court before she died. She had the most wonderful care by lovely young carers, who made her family and friends feel welcomed and were very supportive during her last few days. As a retired nurse, I was very impressed with the standard of care given to her.

My father received excellent care. He started coming once a week to take part in the activities provided. He always came home saying how wonderful the staff were and how he had enjoyed the food. He then spent 3 weeks at Speedwell Court, the care, compassion, and dignity he received was excellent. Sadly he needed palliative care, but the staff were excellent till the end. They ensured Dad was comfortable and we were able to be with him and stay with him afterwards.

A huge thanks to the team at Speedwell. My Auntie moved there after a fall - I am so impressed by the level of care she received. She was treated with the utmost dignity, kindness, and care throughout her stay. The team could not have been more caring and supportive to her - and also to all her friends and family. I cannot fault the care that was given - the attention to detail, the friendliness, approachability, and professionalism of all the team. Thank you once again!

Generally a good experience but spoiled by the unreliable flushing of the toilet in the ensuite bathroom. When I mentioned this to the care staff, a maintenance man came and fiddled with the cistern which improved the performance for a short time. It then became unreliable again. All staff pleasant and efficient and some (eg the activities manager) outstanding.
