My friend, who suffers from early-onset dementia, moved into Speedwell Court at the beginning of March after a long time of uncertainty and confusion for her. Before lockdown myself and her other friends visited her several times and could see her settling in comfortably. Knowing her to be so well cared
for was an immense relief for us during this uncertain time. The home kept us informed and posted weekly pics of residents pursuing activities. All enquiries, big or small, were answered promptly and staff went above and beyond to keep all residents safe. Once allowed to meet while keeping social distance, we could see she looked happy, was chatty, engaged, well dressed and had not lost any weight. Thank you.

This is a modern care home with beautiful gardens, however, the staff go above and beyond with their care. In these difficult times with COVID, we have had peace of mind that Mum is safe and well.
They have also managed to keep us up to date with everything and given us access to some wonderful pictures
of all the residents.

The facilities at Speedwell Court are excellent - very new, clean and incredibly welcoming. There are always activities for the residents and events to include their families and friends which really builds a sense of community. Every time we visit, we're greeted by the cheery staff who know us by name.
Every member of staff is friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. My Nan is very happy in her new home which is the most important thing.
A special thanks to the staff during the current Covid-19 crisis who are organising web-chats with the residents so we can all keep in contact. It's reassuring to know my Nan is being taken very good care of at a time when we're unable to see her.

I am so glad we found Abbeyfield Speedwell Court. When looking for a place for Mum to live we wanted somewhere she would be looked after and get the help she needed, but still have some independence and freedom. Speedwell achieves exactly that. The staff work very hard to make it your home, nothing
is too much trouble. Everything is excellent, the facilities, activities, cleanliness and superb home-cooked food. Everything has been thought of and Mum is very happy living there.

The care my father-in-law receives at Speedwell Court is outstanding, this is due to the exceptional quality of care staff who look after him and the professionalism of the whole team. We turned up ‘unannounced’ to have a look round, the management team spent time patiently answering our questions and
providing support and reassurance. We met with the amazing care team, receptionist, the chef and the activities co-ordinator who pay such attention to detail, understanding every need of their residents. It was important to us that a choice of activities would be provided every day to keep my father-in-law engaged. He has joined in with everything on offer and has shown a new lease of life and enjoyment through involvement with these activities. We regularly stay for lunch and take pleasure from joining him with the activities at Speedwell Court.
Speedwell Court is like a luxury hotel but it is the dedication, friendliness and quality of the team that make it a very safe and happy home.

My mother moved into Abbeyfield after a very uncertain future and then a referral by a social worker whilst in hospital. Through what has been a stressful and anxious transition for her, she has been made most welcome by all the staff and has settled in much faster than I thought she would. I cannot
praise that staff for their dedication and care enough and I now have complete peace of mind that my mum is safe at all times. Her surroundings are clean, luxurious and comfortable and there is a range of fabulous activities offered. She is the most relaxed and happy I have seen her in a long time.

Since my sister has moved in she is very happy and settled, I believe this is due to the excellent care she is receiving. All the staff are very kind and caring and nothing seems too much trouble. The rooms are large and lovely and having the coffee lounge to sit and chat in makes a very comfortable

My Mum stayed here for a 4 week period of respite and rehabilitation. It goes without saying that the home itself is beautiful, with wonderful facilities and gorgeous rooms. But most importantly the staff are wonderful, all of them. Mum arrived at Speedwell when she was very weak after a long period
in hospital, the care she received enabled her to rest in a comfortable environment and regain some strength. The staff worked with her to get her to a point where she could return home. We are very grateful for everything they did. Mum enjoyed all the activities and getting her hair done in the lovely salon.
We would certainly thoroughly recommend Speedwell Court.

Mum is the happiest she has been for a number of years living at Speedwell Court. She feels very safe and comfortable there and is very fond of all the staff and residents. All the staff, whether administrative or carers are really caring towards the residents, and always have time for them. They are
all extremely kind and patient. The downstairs cafe is a nice environment to have a coffee when visiting, and the beautiful garden is a lovely safe space.

Flowers, card and staff provided a warm welcome. Staff introduced themselves and communicated well, always calling Mum by name. They spoke in a friendly, encouraging way and demonstrated that treating the person as an individual and meeting needs is a key priority. Also shown during the pre-assessment
interview.
The environment, from reception to bedroom is of an exceptional standard. The lounge provides a pleasant area to sit and relax, being arranged in such a way as to foster community spirit. An excellent variety of home-cooked food. Good stimulation provided by numerous daily activities.
For me, getting information when I contacted was paramount and, at all times, staff communicated in-depth and were able to impart the personal information required giving peace of mind.
By the end of her stay, Mum had developed a good relationship with staff and from the 'goodbyes' it was obvious she felt cared for.
Staff at all times appeared kind, helpful and considerate, wanting to make life as homely and pleasant as was possible.

My mother was one of the first residents to move into Speedwell Court. There were a few 'teething problems' to begin with which was to be expected but these have been mainly overcome.
All staff are very caring and friendly. To start with the dementia and non-dementia residents were together which was
difficult, but they were separated after three months and will continue to be so.

Mum has stayed at two previous homes prior to Speedwell. Speedwell is a caring home from home with a 5-star hotel feel. The staff are the most caring, well-trained people. Mum is the happiest she has been here. Her medical needs are sorted and kept on top of.
We can't recommend highly enough the staff
and facilities at Speedwell.

My mother-in-law was reluctant to have her hair done at the home but after some persuasion she did. The hairdresser did a wonderful job and my mother-in-law is so pleased.

My mother settled in very quickly due to the excellent care and attention from the staff. Always a worry when a parent needs care that family needs help with. The home is bright, has a calm atmosphere and high levels of cleanliness. A good selection of food on the menu, every need catered for. Thank

We were initially nervous about how our mother would adapt as she has been living in a large 4 bedroom house. However, I have been hugely impressed at the individual care my mother has received and the kindness and compassion with which she has been helped to settle in. She already loves her new home
at Speedwell Court. The staff are highly trained, the atmosphere, also for visiting family, extremely welcoming and friendly. Thank you!

Hi I am Sam, Catering Manager. I’ve been working in a professional kitchen environment for the last 16 years having stared my catering career as soon as I left school.


I worked my way through the ranks starting from kitchen assistant, learning the skills and disciplines on all levels and have been fortunate to work with some excellent chefs.


After major surgery and spending almost a month in hospital in 2018, I saw first-hand the impact that care and food has on individuals. I realised food is a big part of peoples day when living within a residential setting and decided that I wanted to help make a difference to people during this time. That was when I made the change from commercial catering to care and I haven’t looked back since. I like caring for people and strive to provide food that residents look forward to and also enjoy getting to know them and interacting with them on a daily basis.


I relocated from Berkshire to Hampshire last year and was excited to be offered the role at Speedwell Court and join the amazing #AbbeyfieldSociety family.


My hobbies outside of work are fitness, enjoying all aspects of the outdoors and have a passion for photography which I share via my Instagram page.
