From the start of arranging a quick admission to Speedwell Court during covid, the vast majority of the staff I met with during the short time my father was resident in Speedwell were kind, thoughtful, helpful, professional, and courteous. He was generally well looked after until he passed away. My
thanks go to the members of staff who went out of their way to support me in his final days which was very much appreciated. My review reflects the positives from my experiences.

Speedwell is a second to none care home. I just wanted to say thank you to the general manager and all her staff for guiding us all through this pandemic and for keeping our family members safe and well. To all the admin/care team/activities coordinators/caterers, you are all such hard-working people
and appreciate the love and care you pour into your home. Mum looks so happy and I couldn't have wished for a better place for her.

From initial contact with Speedwell to my father being admitted as a resident was less than a week! Speedwell is the full ticket. The home offers very comfortable accommodation, fabulous food choices with every meal, countless activities on offer, caring staff who are willing to talk and share moments
regarding my father's care daily if I wish. Knowing he is happy, and more importantly safe, is a weight off our mind. Love this place!

My brother recently moved to Speedwell Court and has settled in well. The staff are kind and professional and have enabled my brother to do more for himself. I have had several video calls and phone calls with him and he is happy. The facilities are new, well designed and kept very clean. The hygiene
regime for covid is adhered to and I look forward to my first visit next week. I am very impressed with their attention to communications with relatives and their emphasis on quality of life. The activities and time spent in the garden are so important.

This is a new-build care home where thought has gone into detail when building for the needs of residents inside and outside facilities. The rooms are en-suite, very clean and modern, bright with plenty of space and floors are named in houses making it easy for residents to feel at home. There are all
up-to-date facilities with modern equipment. Birthdays are made special with wonderful cakes made in-house. During the Covid restrictions, everything is done above and beyond to make sure that family could visit with their loved ones in a safe environment. All the staff are excellent at treating residents with dignity and respect whilst being caring and keeping me up to date with my father's welfare. I would thoroughly recommend this care home.

Coming to the second year of my sister's residence at Speedwell Court. My other sister and I are extremely pleased with the level and quality of care and attention our sister has received. We would highly recommend Speedwell Court to anyone who is looking for a home for Dementia sufferers, also anyone
looking for assisted living. Standards are very high. As we have not been able to see our loved ones in person, Speedwell Court rapidly provided a secure room for us to safely visit. The Facebook page has been our saviour in seeing our loved ones with activities shown to us on a daily basis. We are also sent a weekly activity chart to see what is on. The photographs we see on an almost daily basis show residents participating in activities and thoroughly enjoying themselves all with smiles. You just need to look at the website to see all I am saying is as stated. Also, each resident receiving a cake on their birthday and always a different theme. So yes, "Highly Recommended".

Speedwell Court have made every effort during the pandemic to support residents in their well being and social engagement. I am particularly impressed by how the activities team have enabled my mother to continue to play scrabble, enjoy a wide range of music and films and re-ignite her love of poetry.
The level of staffing is good and the food enjoyable and well balanced, and my mother likes her food. The home has built a purpose-built visitors' pod and has allowed extra visits when family have visited from afar. We all long for the end of lockdown but my mother has had a more varied and stimulating social experience than I have had during this pandemic.

My mother has dementia and has resided in Speedwell Court since September 2019. During this time she has had falls and turns and is now in end of life care. She has been so well cared for and protected from covid-19 by the dedicated staff. I can’t praise them highly enough. They’ve cared for my mother
like she was their own relative. The staff have got her joining in activities wherever possible and the best thing for me is that the Facebook page often shows mum taking part in these and keeps me up to date. I can’t visit as I live in the North of Scotland, 700 miles away. I haven’t seen mum since 5 March last year. It is a load off my mind to know how well she’s being cared for.

From the very first fact-finding phone contact, and experience from an existing resident’s family, there was an obvious depth to the ethos of Speedwell, and there was never a feeling of “a question too small”. Mum moved in early Dec '20, followed by the necessary isolation period, and was free to enjoy
Christmas. Although the Covid rules prohibit direct visits, the special visitor room means a completely safe visit can still happen, while being physically separated, a clever arrangement. There are daily activities at the home, and residents are actively encouraged to engage. We are really pleased to see Mum’s pictures in the dedicated social media site; smiles, laughs and a visible change from her previous lifestyle. The Speedwell staff all seem to have a can-do attitude, Mum says there is always someone around when needed, and always friendly. Initially, I thought an 80-resident facility might be too big, but the clever arrangement of 5 households makes a very homely setup.

My father has been at Speedwell Court for three months now. Moving him into a care home during a pandemic was a very tough decision, however, the staff at Speedwell Court made this as seamless as possible for my father. Every time I see him with the care staff he is calm, smiling and you can see he
has a connection with them. They have wonderful activities to fill the day and it is absolutely amazing to be updated with photos of how settled he is. I can't thank you enough.

Dad moved into Speedwell Court in July and was welcomed into a truly wonderful community. The care, kindness and attention to detail shown by the staff are quite exceptional. I have full confidence in the team to provide the best possible care for Dad. He settled in remarkably quickly and is benefitting
greatly from the comfort, companionship and care he is receiving. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and Dad is enjoying participating in the wide-ranging activities on offer. His film premiere will take place after Christmas, and we are so grateful to have helped with this. Our engagement with life at Speedwell is actively encouraged, and we love seeing the many photos shared on Facebook. We are looking forward to being more involved once this becomes possible.

I got a real good feeling from all the staff here when I first checked out several care homes for Mum. Mum has now been living there for six weeks and I couldn't have asked for more. She is superbly looked after and is settling in nicely. Her room now feels like home she tells me, as she has lots of
her photo's and memorabilia in there with her. I'm totally happy that we all made the correct choice with Speedwell Court, and feel that Mum now has comfort, companionship and safety which are all so important at her stage in life.

A wonderful place and community for Dad. The standard of care, communication and thought are incredible.

This week is my 1 year anniversary of moving. We reached my future home - a brand new home, the only other resident was a lady of 102 years. She was very chatty and full of things to say; a delight to have as company.
When we arrived the whole staff came out to meet us, which I found was very welcoming
and quite amazing. Thank you all of you.
Everybody seemed so friendly; more than we could have possibly expected or even hoped for. Having a very shy nature myself, I found it very difficult to appear equally open and friendly and as time passed it got a lot easier. As things went on I became friends with one of the team leaders and she helped me out a lot by finding much of what I said quite funny.

My name is Ewa and I am so thrilled to have joined the fantastic team at Speedwell Court as the Deputy Manager. I am passionate about delivering high quality, personalised care to every resident here. I feel truly privileged to work with such a dedicated and knowledgeable team, who strive to build upon the strong caring ethos which already exists within the Abbeyfield family. I really do believe that all of our existing and future residents deserve nothing but the best. At Speedwell Court, our mission is ‘To enhance the quality of life for older people,’ and this is one of my most valued beliefs.

I have worked in the care sector for over 13 years which includes helping thousands of families across the South West to source appropriate care for their loved ones, I know how difficult it is to choose the right care package or care home.


I was pleased to join the team at Speedwell Court in the summer of 2023. My job is to welcome new residents and enquiries and discuss care options either now or in the future.


When I am not working I enjoy live music, reading, being in the great outdoors, gardening and spending time with family

Hi I am Sam, Catering Manager. I’ve been working in a professional kitchen environment for the last 16 years having stared my catering career as soon as I left school.


I worked my way through the ranks starting from kitchen assistant, learning the skills and disciplines on all levels and have been fortunate to work with some excellent chefs.


After major surgery and spending almost a month in hospital in 2018, I saw first-hand the impact that care and food has on individuals. I realised food is a big part of peoples day when living within a residential setting and decided that I wanted to help make a difference to people during this time. That was when I made the change from commercial catering to care and I haven’t looked back since. I like caring for people and strive to provide food that residents look forward to and also enjoy getting to know them and interacting with them on a daily basis.


I relocated from Berkshire to Hampshire last year and was excited to be offered the role at Speedwell Court and join the amazing #AbbeyfieldSociety family.


My hobbies outside of work are fitness, enjoying all aspects of the outdoors and have a passion for photography which I share via my Instagram page.

My role at Speedwell Court is to make sure the building is all up together, properly maintained to a high standard and looking its best. I enjoy my role as I get to interact with the residents and keep their homes looking great. I like to stay active and healthy, this role definitely allows me to get my steps in!
