My mother was extremely reluctant to want to move into a care home, but the time had come when she needed more nursing care than we could provide in her own home. On arrival, at Millers Grange, the staff were very understanding and persuaded my mother to stay and give them a go. She was not happy, and
it took a while for her to settle but after a week or so she started enjoying the experience and the company of other people of her own age.
I am very confident that my mother is in the right place, she is well looked after in luxurious surroundings, waited on hand and foot, all her medical needs provided and she is safe and secure.

Obviously, the covid epidemic has limited my experience of the home, however, I have found the staff (at all levels) to be extremely helpful and courteous. I can only objectively comment on a couple of the categories and have put 'satisfactory'.

Although we discussed live-in Care my Aunt was sure that she wanted to be “looked after” in a care home. She wanted to let others do the thinking about menus, cooking, paying the bills etc. for her so she could enjoy life in the company of others with help on hand 24/7. Having looked at several alternatives
we settled on Millers Grange because of the warm welcome we received and the opportunity to have all our questions answered in advance.
Being a recently opened home we were struck by how well designed and equipped it was. A lot of help was provided in setting up the suite just as my Aunt wanted it – so it felt as much like home as possible from day one. The staff took time and care to introduce her to other residents and she has formed some good friendships, meeting up regularly to play games and chat over a coffee in one of the lounge areas.
We feel that the management of Millers Grange have been doing what they can to ensure some visits can happen and in a safe environment.

My mum came to Millers Grange towards the end of 2019 firstly for respite care but ended up staying permanently. She found it difficult to settle at first which was understandable due to her dementia and never having lived anywhere other than her own home for the previous 56 years! But she gradually
became accustomed to her new surroundings, and since "lockdown" has settled extremely well in her new home. We have been able to see her via Skype calls and visits in the garden gazebo, and the staff are great at organising this. They have coped very well indeed during this extremely difficult and uncertain time of covid-19, and I can't thank them enough. It will be lovely to see them all again when we can! The home itself has a great atmosphere and is always very clean and tidy. I am kept well informed of mums wellbeing, and the residents are treated with respect and dignity by the staff. I would definitely recommend Millers Grange Care Home to anyone looking for care for a loved one.

My mother is very happy at Millers Grange and it is a relief that she is no longer in her own home alone now that her mobility is a little restricted. She herself has worked in many care homes in the past and Millers Grange compares very favourably with those facilities. She is very pleased with her
room and delighted that it has access to her own small patio. Any issues that were identified when she originally arrived, have generally been resolved quickly and to her satisfaction and under the current difficult COVID conditions, she has felt safe. I have found the staff to be very helpful and responsive. My mum has now been in Miilers Grange for nearly a year and would highly recommend the home.

The staff and facilities are excellent. They are very sympathetic and caring towards my mother.
They lead the way and took the initiative at the start of the Covid-19 situation and this, I believe has made them so successful in managing the overall situation and protecting the residents and staff so
well.
They take every opportunity to try and tailor activities or events that my mother would like.
Their communication and dedication to their work are excellent.

My mother fell and broke her femur in the Spring. She had an operation to repair it, followed by a spell in hospital. She came to Millers Grange in mid-April initially for respite care as she was not fit enough to cope at home on her own, particularly during lockdown. She has been very well cared
for and has made a significant recovery both in mobility and general well being.

Ever since we saw the care home for my mother-in-law, we were instantly impressed not only with the quality of the services but also the professionalism and friendliness of all the staff. We are pleased to say that we have not been disappointed and we cannot fault the care that Millers Grange Care Home
continues to give to my mother-in-law. Whenever we visit or speak to the home we are always welcomed with a smile, and we get regular updates on her health which is very reassuring. We would certainly recommend the home to anyone who is thinking of either respite care or permanent residential care for themselves or a loved one.

My Mum came into Millers Grange in January from hospital, and was very frail and depressed. Over the last months, the staff have improved her physical and mental well-being enormously. The food is nourishing and tasty, the accommodation is new and delightful. There is a lovely garden and many of the
residents have their own patios. The staff organise a good package of activities and have been able to continue with this as much as is safe during coronavirus. The great majority of the staff are helpful, approachable and conscientious. There is a positive atmosphere in the home with someone always willing to chat to the residents and families. I applaud the staff for their efforts during the pandemic, and thank them for keeping my Mum safe and well in difficult circumstances.

Already recommended this home. Having now experienced both sides of the fence, so to speak, being a carer in the mid-1970s, and now being cared for. I feel I can say there is no comparison, a vast change. Building purpose-built homes not only makes it easier to look after the ancient like me, circa
1932, but pleasant to be in. Any criticism would be that my amputated toes would like an electric blanket. Some of the overseas carers could do with better training or a checklist as they seem unable to multitask, often having to be tactfully prompted. Having a car-friendly Go Chair relieves me being dependant on a carer, very useful when nature calls. Sorry, no scribe.

We recognise electric blankets offer comfort but there are some medical conditions that preclude the use of these, including diabetes. If you have any degree of nerve damage caused by this condition you may not be able to sense if an electric blanket is too hot which can lead to inadvertent burns. We can review specialist alternative therapies or medications that could offer relief to painful symptoms.
Whilst our multicultural colleagues receive full training, English is a second language to many. There are times when instructions are misinterpreted which at times leads to confusion. As we open up our final suites, it may be that we invite residents to take part in the interview process

Thanks to the wonderful staff for making our mum's wish to have a date with a penguin come true. They arranged for penguins to come in. One was sat at the table waiting for her. She then got to hold it on her lap as did the other residents. What an incredible surprise and experience for her to have
enjoyed. What lovely memories to have.

Both my parents stayed at Miller Grange for respite care. During their stay, the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The home is very well-appointed and the rooms very nice with a small patio, perfect for the summer. There is a lovely cafe to meet visitors and two lovely lounges.
The food was very
good, and I joined my parents on several occasions for lunch. The staff serving the lunch, were very friendly and helpful, the chef always willing to provide an alternative if the menu was not suitable.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, activities were organised, and the residents encouraged to join in and meet new people.

After much research and numerous visits to care homes in the area, it was easy to make our final decision.
First impressions are always important, and the welcome given to me couldn't have been more friendly.
It is a difficult decision to move an elderly relative from part of the country to another,
but Millers Grange made the transition as stress-free as possible for our relative and ourselves!
The standard of care at all levels is excellent, and the needs and requests of the resident are consistently taken into account. We were amazed when a lace-making group was found for our relative, and she was taken to the meeting. Trips out and about are readily available, and great care is taken to ensure she is able to get to appointments etc.
All aspects of our relative's care are of a consistently high standard, and we are safe in the knowledge, that everything is being done for her.

My aunty spent two weeks in the care home, for respite over the Christmas period. She is in her mid 90's and comes from a generation of high expectations and standards. She has stayed in other care homes before and has 24/7 live-in care at home, but has never been wholly satisfied with any of them.
Millers Grange was the exception. She spent two weeks there and was clearly very happy with the way she was looked after She commented that the food was very good and that the staff were particularly attentive and kind and would arrive very quickly when she rang her pager for assistance. She has commented that she intends to go back for further respite and potentially, for long term care.

A lovely place to be where all the staff are kind and supportive of my father-in-law. They treat Dad with respect and patience. Food is good, the home is very clean and well kept up and it feels like a private house/hotel rather than a care home. Each room is ensuite and of a good size where Dad is
encouraged to personalise his room with his own effects. Nice people!

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

I’ve worked in the care sector all my career, initially providing hands-on care, and later in management roles.


I even worked with a previous Prime Minister to improve dementia care standards. While I’m not a political person, it was amazing to provide expertise at that level.


My favourite part of the day is my morning round, when I say hello to all the residents and find out how they’re doing, and ensure they’re ready for a good day. There’s always a buzz about the place.


As well as care expertise, this role demands great teamwork, a listening ear, empathy and the ability to act quickly. This is the residents’ home, so if they, or their family, give us feedback, it’s vital that we’re quick to respond. The same applies to the team. A lot of my role is to support them to develop their strengths and do their best work so they can enhance residents’ lives.
