A pleasant, most comfortable stay. Hospitality manager - very kind and helpful - the best!
Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us, I will pass on your comments to our Hospitality Manager who will appreciate the feedback.
Toni has had to visit the hospital recently a few times, the staff have been excellent and helpful. Obviously the food is always first class, with lots of choices and always presented well. The manager runs a tight ship and is a very caring person.
Thank you for your kind words, regarding our excellent staff, the support given and the food choices offered and the food always being first class, we really appreciate the feedback that you have given regarding Portobello Place.
Visited old neighbour for lunch on 2nd May. Cannot speak too highly of the ambience of the home. The staff and food were excellent and very helpful. For anyone looking for a residential home, Portobello Place most certainly is worth a visit.
Thank you for your lovely comments regarding the ambience at Portobello Place, our lovely staff and the food offered, we really do appreciate the feedback given.
Visited resident as guest for lunch in private dining room. Staff very polite and attentive. Food was excellent (3-course meal) with drinks. Staff very well trained. Lovely to visit residents in such lovely atmosphere and surroundings. Could not fault experience.
Thank you for your kind comments regarding our staff and the excellent food you received in our fine dining room and the lovely atmosphere at Portobello Place. Thank you again
Mum resided at Portobello Place for 4 and a half years. During this time she felt part of the "family" with wonderful care and loving attention from the staff. She was treated with kindness and respect, which was important for someone who still had a good degree of independence. Mum loved the events, particularly the singers, speakers, dancers and musicians, which really lifted her spirits and she fully took part!
Thank you so much for your lovely review, your kind words regarding the wonderful care received and loving attention from the staff, and that mum felt part of the family this means so much to us Thank you again
I had visited 5 care homes for my client. I was very impressed with the decor of Portobello Place. The management and admin staff are extremely professional and very welcoming each time I visit my client. The carers and staff are lovely and very caring. My client has settled in so well, he made the decision to remain permanent. The change in him is incredible.
That the changes you have observed in your client since moving in, is incredible and wanting to become a permanent resident with us.
We are so happy that out of five care homes you visited you chose Portobello Place.
I would describe Portobello Place as an excellent care home. It has comfy spacious bedrooms, lovely dining room and beautiful open spaces for entertainment and socialising. The staff are caring and attentive. They care for each individual, meeting their needs and encouraging and facilitating them to be the best they can be. Our own experience is that my aunt was in poor health when she arrived 1 year ago, needing 2 carers and maximum help. She is now walking and taking part in many of the activities. She is now sleeping, eating and healthier than she has been during the past 2 years.
Thank you so much for your lovely review and kind words, it means so much to us to have achieved such a great experience here at Portobello Place.
My father has been at Portobello Place for nearly 3 years now; it has been just the right place for him. We have really appreciated the care and love that he has been shown over this time through various ups and downs. I feel that we are kept well informed as family on all aspects of his overall care. Many of the staff have known Dad for some time now and it has been really heartening to see the genuine affection they have for him.
Special mention to the events team who have been great in getting Dad involved in a wide variety of day-to-day activities and trips out. The food at Portobello is really excellent and was probably the clincher for Dad when we all came for our initial visit; the catering team really do a fantastic job.
Management run a tight ship and this shows with motivated, friendly and professional staff; we are confident in and grateful for the care that Dad receives at Portobello.
I will be sure to pass your comments on to the wider team. Feedback like this...
Cannot speak highly enough of everyone. Nothing is too much trouble.
Thank you so much for your kind and uplifting feedback. It is truly heartening to hear how well your mother has settled and how she has flourished since joining Portobello Place.

My friend, aged 96, has been a resident in Portobello Place for 2 and a half years. Ever since the current management team were put in place, everything about Portobello is 100% of what a concerned relative or friend would want. Particularly impressive are the frequency and variety of activities provided for residents and the quality and choice of the food provided. I have never had a meal in the bistro that wasn't delicious and served by the friendliest of staff.
Thank you so much for your kind words, we really do appreciate it. Stating that everything about Portobello is 100% ! and that you are impressed with the activities provided, good food and friendly staff.
Mum is happy and well cared for. Our family are very happy with everything the home provides.
Thank you so much for your lovely review we really appreciate your kind words and continued support
A wonderful team - from reception staff to personal carers, as a family we feel fully supported.
Not only do they care for the resident but they care for the entire family.
It's a wonderful place and the staff are always cheery
Thank you for your lovely words we are so happy that you feel fully supported as a whole family
I came to Portobello for respite care, following a hip operation, for 2 weeks. My very comfortable room was provided with a hospital bed, and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, who were kind, friendly, respectful, without being patronising. The food here is of hotel quality and always nutritious. Two things I would change - my bins should be emptied daily, and the intermittent loss of water pressure on 3rd floor.
Thank you for your lovely review, we are grateful for your comments and can confirm we have resolved the matters mentioned above.
My mum came here in Jan 2024. Since then, it has improved greatly - a change in management has helped enormously. The entertainment team is amazing. Food is good.
Thank you very much for your kind words, we are happy that you feel the home has improved greatly and the entertainment team are amazing !
A lovely home. The bedroom was really nice with pleasant views from the windows which my mother enjoyed. She stayed in Portobello Place for respite care while I was on holiday. Her visitors said that she always seemed happy and they enjoyed taking her to the bistro when they visited.
Thank you very much for your lovely review, we look forward to seeing mum in the future
My mother has been a resident for over 3 years and the care , consideration , kindness has been outstanding . All staff genuinely have a deep connection with my mother and know her on a personal level and consistently try to accomodate all her needs. Nothing seems too much trouble and they have a deep affection for her and her welfare . Today the family visited and a member of staff went the extra mile to make our visit extra special for us and our Mother . We cannot thank the carer enough and my Mother was delighted. All the staff are wonderful and know us by name and are so welcoming
Thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. It means the world to our whole team to hear how much you value the care and connection we have with your mother. Building genuine relationships with our residents and their families is at the heart of everything we do, so to know this has made...
Very good care in pleasant surroundings. Looked after Dad in the best way and left him to his own company when required. Activities available but not pushed as Dad wasn't always keen. Great food available in the bistro or his room which he enjoyed. Lovely room overlooking a patio which he could sit in when sunny. Overall an enjoyable experience for someone who had only ever lived in his own home apart from National Service.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such kind words about your father's stay with us. We're so pleased to hear that he felt well cared for and comfortable in our home especially as this was such a significant change for him after so many years in his own home. It's lovely to know he...
I had respite care for 3 weeks during which I developed a chest infection in one lung and a bladder infection. The care at Portobello Place was consistently good. However, the laundry service did have lapses. I lost several items of clothing which didn't get labelled. These weren't recovered. The optional services for haircuts, manicures and chiropody were much appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent respite stay with us . We're pleased to learn that you found the care consistently good and that you appreciated the optional services such as haircuts, manicures, and chiropody. It's wonderful to know these contributed...
I always find the staff warm and caring and do their very best to facilitate any requests. The house and rooms are beautifully decorated and you feel at home and relaxed very quickly. My mother is content and relaxed and especially appreciates the help she receives in the bathroom. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review. It means a lot to hear that your mum feels relaxed, content, and supported, especially in those personal moments of care. We're so pleased the team's warmth is coming through, and your words will really lift their spirits.

Meet the Team (7)

My name is Cindy Alland. I have worked in the Older Care industry for approaching 40 years and, in that time, have held numerous roles and faced just about every challenge there is!
Starting at ‘Grass roots’ I worked my way up from Carer, Senior, Head of Residential, Home Manager, Regional Business operations and then became an independent Interim manager and trouble shooter. I have managed care homes in multiple counties across England consisting of Residential, Dementia, Nursing and Sheltered/Assisted living – from small 26 bed homes to upwards of 90 beds.
I have also had overlapping spells of property development along the way and, most recently, my husband and I have moved into the house we have been building for the last few years.
I love to travel, spend time with my family, and am a keen gardener.
My work ‘passion’ though, is making a positive difference. I strive to empower those I work with to be the best they can, to create an environment that residents can feel supported and loved and staff can feel proud and valued.
I treat everyone with respect, as I would want to be treated. My door is always open. I want staff, residents and their families to know I am there for them. Well led staff create the best outcome for all. Enrichment of the lives of our residents and team is what I work towards. Person centred care, empathy and compassion are my focus to deliver the best I can.

With over 12 years of experience in the care industry, Alex brings not only knowledge and expertise but also genuine passion for supporting those living with dementia. Originally a qualified accountant, Alex followed her heart into a more fulfilling career in care, specialising in dementia nursing. As a Dementia Friend and Level 5 qualified in leadership and management, Alex is dedicated to creating a warm, supportive environment where residents can thrive. The focus is always on making everyday life meaningful and improving wellbeing through compassionate, person-centred care.

I have worked in the care industry for nearly 20 years and remain incredibly passionate about what I do. I joined Berkley Care Group in 2025 and I absolutely love being a part of the team.
As the Residential Care Manager, I am always happy to help and support in any way and pride myself on being approachable and dependable.

Richard has been lucky enough to work across most of the care homes in the Berkeley Care Group but is now based at Portobello Place as the Head Chef.
Richard has dedicated himself to the residents with a person centred approach with their catering and well-being requirements whilst providing great hospitality and service.

My team and I will always ensure our residents remain active, engaged and socially fulfilled.
