Portobello Place

My fiancé and I contacted Portobello Place when searching for suitable end-of-life care for my mum who sadly had acute myeloid leukaemia and Alzheimer's. From the initial inquiry call with them to the final days of my mum's life, the customer service and care standard given to my mum has been faultless. All of the team went over and above their jobs during a very stressful and sad time in our lives, showing warmth and compassion when helping to deliver the level of care we would have wanted to give our mum at home in the final few weeks of her life. We couldn't recommend Portobello Place highly enough for all of the support they have shown our family.

Portobello Place has been fantastic with the care of my Nan. She might not be the easiest resident but have been fantastic with her, and continue to help her through rehab and activities. My Nan enjoys the company of the other residents and continues to tell me how amazing the food is. Even through COVID, we were able to safely meet up with her outside, which has been lovely. Everyone one of the staff members are so friendly and can’t do enough for us and her. I can rest easy at night knowing my Nan is in the best care and enjoys being there. Thank you to all the staff at Portobello Place, really can’t thank you enough.

My mother spent a very comfortable four weeks residing at Portobello Place for some respite prior to an operation. Her initial worries and concerns soon dissipated after meeting all the kind, caring and concerned staff from the lovely ladies who cleaned her room through to the professional and discreet carers and the genuinely interested managers. Everyone treated her as an individual with her own specific requirements. She soon felt totally at home and although encouraged to join in with activities, she, unfortunately, didn't feel well for much of the time but was never pressured into anything, instead treated with care and understanding. She was fortunate to have a lovely room opening onto the courtyard where our family were able to visit her daily. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Portobello Place as a permanent home or for respite for your loved ones.

Since their great experience at Portobello, they have subsequently moved into one of their sister Berkley Care Group homes.

It isn't cheap but the standard of care and the friendliness of the staff, confirms that the decision we made was definitely the right one.

My mum was recently a resident of Portobello Place, it was a difficult time for her, myself and my family following her diagnosis, however, the team at Portobello Place are truly outstanding! They cared so well for my mum and made her feel so comfortable and happy in her last few months. They also made the family and friends feel so welcome and comfortable during our visits there. Knowing my mum was so well cared for and looked after brings me so much comfort and I will always be grateful to the team for that.

My mother came to Portobello Place on respite after an unexpected fall. Their professional response to our urgent request for respite was exceptional, and she was treated with great kindness at a difficult time. For 6 months she has been cared for with thoughtfulness and affection and has now decided to make her stay permanent as she is so happy! It is a wonderfully friendly environment, where residents are encouraged to both relax and pursue many different and interesting activities according to their wishes. The rooms, facilities and gardens make for a lovely environment and food is of top-quality restaurant standard. We will always be so grateful to the staff for their care and kindness, and we can't praise enough the ongoing communication with relatives, giving us confidence that mum’s ongoing needs are constantly evaluated to ensure that her care remains at a high standard. I have no hesitation in recommending Portobello Place for top quality respite or residential care.

Mum went into hospital due to having a fall, she suffers with dementia and we can no longer give her the care she requires, it is a very anxious time for the family. I can not thank Portobello staff enough for the care and kindness they have shown towards her and the family, mum does not hear very well therefore a telephone call is not an option. However, with the help from the staff, I have been able to FaceTime mum most days, this has been very reassuring to know she is happy and well. Portobello is a lovely care home with excellent food, catering for all needs, very well kept, excellent gardens, but most important of all the kind and caring staff. Thank you.

Portabello has been nothing but amazing with our mum. It's been a difficult time for mum and the family following mums diagnosis, but the team have made this so much easier to deal with by knowing that mum is safe, cared for at such a high level, treated and respected as an individual and made to feel so welcomed and part of the portabello family. We have never seen mum as happy as she is now! The food is incredible, the staff communicates with mum and us whenever and whatever the need. Everyone is accommodating and understanding of person-centred care. Mum has been involved in many activities and it's amazing to see her so happy and cared for. You really are doing an amazing job... you are all heroes! Exceptional service and highly recommend.

My father was in Portobello Place for a few weeks respite, the care he received there was outstanding. The staff are very helpful and friendly and they couldn’t do enough for my dad (who didn’t want to leave). The food was excellent. This is by far the best care home for miles. I would definitely recommend Portobello Place to anyone.

When we first drove up, we thought what a beautiful home. The careers were very kind and lovely. We had booked a visit to see my mum in respite, and they looked after us very well. Would definitely recommend this home.

This is an excellent home, the staff are very caring and they spend valuable time with the residents, which is fantastic, as it can be daunting for the residents being away from there main home life. Well done team, keep up the great work.

My father moved into the home straight from hospital initially as respite care but has decided to stay. From the staff who took care of him while he was in isolation to another staff member who is always there when we have a socially distant visit, the staff have been warm, welcoming and caring. He enjoys his art lessons and we look forward to sampling some of the delicious-sounding food when we can meet him inside.

I have been very impressed with the excellent accommodation and care my mother has received at Portobello Place especially given difficult conditions over the past three months. She has had her own small flat in sheltered housing for the past ten years but earlier this year it was clear that the responsibilities of doing everything for herself was becoming too much at age 91. The welcome she has received at Portobello has been fantastic and the quality of care from the excellent staff has reassured me that moving to the home was the correct decision. The space and cleanliness of the accommodation are first class, her meals are varied, nutritional and always good quality. She enjoys all sorts of activities - games/exercises/just chatting with the other residents and, although due to the virus she can't leave the premises, she enjoys walking in the garden and sitting in the open air. I have no hesitation in recommending this care home where I know my mother is being expertly looked after.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Portobello Place for all you have done and continue to deliver. Mum-in-law has decided that she wants to become a permanent resident now, which I think speaks volumes from someone who is living there and receiving the care.

Worthy of separate mention is the amazing food! We were lucky enough to join Mum for a few meals pre-lockdown and now we get a daily update on what delicious meals she is having we are very envious.
