My mother spent her final years at Fernleigh Court, during this time she was cared for with dignity and friendship. At all times I was secure in the knowledge she was safe and in the hands of the team who really cared. I would love to highlight everyone who impacted on my mothers life however some will
be missed but especially the team who made such a difference. Great job.

Immediately upon arrival, we were greeted with friendly, helpful staff. My sister is very happy she enjoys the food being offered with choices. She likes to meet and talk to people, and she has been asked to do this in the Bistro every day. We too have been offered tea and biscuits, which has made our
visit relaxing and enjoyable with my sister.

My husband was transferred to Fernleigh this month to be closer to his family. From day one, I cannot rate All Management and staff highly enough!
My husband's welcoming into his new environment was outstanding!. His individual needs have been fully met. My husband is not good at mixing, he likes his
personal space, all staff respect this with understanding.
My husband loves his food. The food is excellent!!.

The staff are well trained and always friendly and approachable. The home is well maintained and welcoming. The activities provided are varied and interesting for residents. The nurses are diligent and communicate any concerns with relatives. Overall, a pleasant, safe and comfortable care home.

The staff here are wonderful and helpful. The food is mostly quite good. I love the soups. The atmosphere is nice and bright. There servers are generally quite good. Overall I think it is a good atmosphere. They have bingo and poetry and I love them both.

Since mum, who has dementia, has been in Fernleigh Court she has been looked after with compassion, kindness and gentleness. From being bedbound for the previous year or so, she is now out of bed sitting in her special chair and being encouraged to engage in social situations and in the daily events.
The friendly and helpful staff are always attentive to her needs and there is good communication between them and the family. One thing I have to mention was the surprise event the staff put on for my parents wedding anniversary with amazing decorations and an incredible afternoon tea. As a family we all say a huge Thank You to all at Fernleigh for everything you do for mum and also for looking after dad so well when he visits.

Mum was always treated with kindness & respect. Whenever I had any issues, they were always quickly resolved. Advocating for a family member isn't easy, but I was never made to feel uncomfortable or a nuisance when I flagged up problems. Mum always preferred the staff she had come to know well & these
relationships made her stay so much more bearable. she hated change & unfamiliar faces. The atmosphere in Fernleigh Court is very welcoming & friendly. The staff are always smiling & helpful.

Home is under investigation for abuse and neglect and safeguarding issues! Avoid! A male nurse slapped our mum around the face to 'verify' her death minutes after she died! Staff failed to recognise that our mum was at end of life, and as such, she was not given the correct medication to ease anxiety,
pain until it was too late (we asked all day for their help). She was denied access to palliative care team, male nurse said there was no need as he knew what he was doing, he clearly didn't! Our mums food intolerances were ignored on multiple occasions. Incompetent in providing end of life or palliative care. They didn't recognise that our mum was 'end of life', as a result she was ignored and left without vital medication. Mum wasn't bathed for the entire 8 weeks she was there! Precious items missing from her room and never found. Staff laughed and joked as our mum was taken out by the undertakers. No respect! CQC have agreed with concerns. Read recent report!

My Nan was not cared for adequately at this home. On 2 occasions whilst I was there she was given food she was intolerant to, despite this being listed on her notes. When Nan was in there for 3 weeks staff were surprised to learn that Nan had terminal cancer, and was registered blind. The manager explained
these details were on her notes but she couldn't make the staff read them. As a result Nans needs weren't met. Staff rarely switched her telly on and we'd regularly find her sat in bed with the door closed and no tv on. Any activities the home had never included those that were bed bound. Pet visits, singers or entertainment were never extended to anyone who couldn't get out of bed. I asked a carer if they could change nans bed as it was soiled, but I was told no as she was bed bound. This was rectified once we complained and other staff sorted it. On my visits it was clear that nans needs weren't being met. My mum & aunt had regular meetings with the manager, but not much changed.

The staff, care levels, and attention to learning who we children are in relation to our mum is exceptional. From the first visit, I understood the comments of all the staff. Our mum is cared for, clean and very safe. I cannot put into words how much pressure and stress has been removed from my life

I came into Fernley Court for respite after major surgery so that I could recover enough to look after my disabled husband. Not knowing what to expect, after two weeks it is now my absolute pleasure to write a review on Fernley Court as a "tick box" would never do this beautiful care home justice!
The
building itself would rival any five-star hotel..the decor is so subtle and so tasteful.
The food is delicious, beautifully presented with lots of choice and always served with a smile.
Most importantly every single member of staff gives us 100% of their caring attention. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Fernley Court only a very big heartfelt thank you from the bottom of my heart to a particular member of staff and all the team.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2022

My name is Tendai Matore-Konzvo and I am the General Manager at Fernleigh Court. Previously, I was the Clinical Deputy Manager and prior, worked as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and Registered General Nurse for a combined 16 years.


Fernleigh Court is a warm and friendly home where everyone is made to feel loved, safe and comfortable which we extended to resident’s friends and families. All staff give care that is bespoke to each resident. Activities of daily living, likes and preferences are tailored around individual needs.


As General Manager of our home, I strive to do the best for residents, their families/friends and my dedicated colleagues. Kerry Gent

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2021

I am a passionate and positive chef who beams pride and professionalism in all I do.


I have been a Head Chef for 25 years and am lucky enough to have worked in kitchens across the world including Sydney, Australia and Phuket, Thailand. I have cooked for several high-profile celebrities including Sir Elton John and Princess Diana.

My versatility has been an asset throughout my career and I have adapted to different environments having worked in hotels, gastropubs, high-end restaurants and now Fernleigh Court. I even spent 6 months cooking at Yarlswood Detention Centre!


I have mentored students from various local colleges and won a national purple umbrella award with my last apprentice. I also earned and retained a rosette for 3 years whilst working at a busy local hotel where I trained ‘Masterchef - The Professionals’ finalist, Louisa Ellis straight from catering college.

These rewards are nothing in comparison to the feeling I get from delivering high-quality, delicious dishes to the residents of Fernleigh Court, Kempston and seeing their smiling faces when they enjoyed my food!

Above all, I am fanatical about cooking and want everyone to enjoy whatever dishes my team and I create!

Job Title: Receptionist Joined: 2019

My name is Michelle and I have been a receptionist here at Fernleigh Court since we opened in November 2019.


Before coming here, I used to volunteer at Bedford Central Club doing Bingo and organising weekly bands to come sing I’m a people person so I love it when my Bistro area is full of residents enjoying themselves with the various activities we have going on whilst enjoying our delicious cakes. I also enjoy puzzles and crosswords so you will often find me helping residents with their jigsaws.


My hobbies include reading (thank you Kindle Unlimited), eating Yorkshire pudding, walking my husky and going away in my caravan and I’m lucky enough to have visited some amazing places which have been recommended by some of our residents who love telling me of their adventures. I love star gazing with my Astrophotography mad son and I am often found at 3 am outside in the garden with a blanket!


I absolutely love my job here at Fernleigh Court and I am lucky enough to work with such amazing & caring people and consider myself very lucky to be working here.
