Melbourn Springs Care Home offers residential care, dementia care and pre-bookable respite stays.

Committed, friendly and dedicated staff members provide high-quality residential care for older people who benefit from additional care and support in a warm and friendly environment.

The Memory Lane dementia care community at Melbourn Springs incorporates person-centred design in its use of colour and cues to help individuals navigate through the home, whilst thoughtful interior design features, such as adapted crockery and tableware, will assist with reminiscence.

Residents live in smaller communities with a family feel so that they can feel safe and comfortable. Care is focused on independence, dignity and choice, with a person-centred approach. Staffing levels reflect the needs of residents, and people living with dementia are offered a range of activities to help preserve life skills, support interactions and retain a sense of purpose and independence.

The village of Melbourn is steeped in history and has some of the most beautiful thatched cottages in the country, and the springs at Melbourn Bury, along with the peaceful River Mel, have also made it very popular with locals and visitors alike.

A great addition to the village has been the Melbourn Community Hub which comprises of the Bookmark Café, the library, parish council offices and it is also a venue for many community activities and events. There are many clubs and societies that meet regularly, the village is renowned for a strong rural, community spirit that continues to thrive, and which Melbourn Springs Care Home is very much a part of.

My mother was required to have respite care at Melbourn Springs at the last minute due to her husband's illness. From the appointment to view the care home, and all stages of care the manager and staff were 1st class. The management of her medicine, food services and facilities available are excellent.
Thanks to everyone, we will definitely be using Melbourn Springs ago if needed! P.s communication is so important and this was also excellent.
Reply from Vimu Welisarage, General Manager at Barchester Melbourn Springs Care HomeDear Ian

Melbourn Springs is a beautiful home with hotel comforts/ Staff are very friendly and always approachable.
The entertainments offered are amazing, my sister-in-law loves to join in, and goes on outside trips too.
Enid was recently very ill and one gentleman was so good staying with her (and myself)
getting her temperature down and re-dressed. Spoke to the ambulance crew etc. I think the homes atmosphere has improved since the new manager has taken over (Vimu)

Hi, my mum has been a resident for 4 years at Melbourne, she has been very happy there and the staff have been very attentive, the chef provides great food and the staff also seem to be happy. Sadly mum died recently and Melbourn allowed a lovely service for me and my family. I can honestly say it was
the best decision I made to move mum from the North of England so that I could see her more easily, from start to the end she was in a loving setting. I would recommend to anyone considering this home for their nearest and dearest.
Reply from Vimu Welisarage, General Manager at Barchester Melbourn Springs Care HomeThank you so much for your beautiful words and for trusting us with your mum's care over these past four years. It means more than we can express to know that she felt happy, loved, and comfortable here, and that you and your family could feel that same warmth and reassurance every time you visited. Your mum was a cherished part of our community, and it was a privilege to be part of her life. Thank you again for sharing your experience.

I have had daily dealings with the care home for 4.5 years ,we have seen many ups and downs with previous management more downs ,but can honestly say the new manager has gone above and beyond to help and make changes and listen and respects our opinions and explains in very true respectful manner of
reason behind things ,and in a short time I am now back loving this care home I've been around other care homes and can't find anything that comes close to how this is now thank you so much, look forward to seeing more staff as the residents rise in numbers

My husband actually spent a week in Respite at Melbourne Springs whilst I was having a hip replacement . He was well looked after and kept safe as he suffers from PSP . He didnot want to socialise whilst there but was able to eat well at a table as he does at home . He said the Staff were lovely and
friendly but he was naturally pleased to be home ! It was for peace of mind that I chose MS for his stay .

An excellent care home. Very friendly and caring from management through to carers, with excellent support also from facilities organisers, friendly reception staff, etc. Always seems clean, peaceful, and welcoming when I visit my centenarian mother(frequently). They do what they can to make the resident
comfortable, safe, and happy. I know from personal experience that the manager (Vimu) is genuinely caring and this flows down to the team. I'd recommend it.

Lovely home with staff that care and feel part of the family. My Mum has struggled at times and the staff have worked really hard to find ways to help her. I can say that over the last few months she has been the happiest she has been during her dementia journey

A very reassuring experience to see my former teacher in spotless accommodation and cared for by friendly, respectful, considerate, cheerful, understanding staff, who were also prompt, welcoming and helpful to visitors. The atmosphere was calm - unlike some care homes, staff didn't seem rushed off
their feet. Lunch was excellent! And served better than in most top-class hotels. Personally I liked the staff's smart uniforms, the formality inspired confidence. I look forward to visiting again.

My mother has been a resident of Melbourn springs for about 6 months.
I am very pleased and impressed with the care she gets. All the staff (carers, activities team, admin etc.) are friendly and kind. There is a wide variety of activities for residents with kindly encouragement to attend.
The facilities
are modern, clean, well maintained and well designed. The food is varied and from what I can tell from the occasions where I have shared. well prepared and tasty.
Management at the home try to make it a home for residents and involve relatives in various activities. Recent examples are Mother's Day celebration and Melbourn Spring's 5th birthday party

Lovely garden party with BBQ and sing a long with Charlie Chaplin.

Congratulations to all involved in organising the party and thank you for your hard work, to all the staff, too many to mention, however, I would like to single

out the general manager and her family, along with the activities lead and another staff member for their extra efforts in ensuring everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves.

My relative was resistant to coming to a care home but has been so welcomed and nurtured by Melbourn Springs staff that she is happy now. Every member of staff is helpful, friendly and caring. There are activities every day to include all residents if they so choose. The building is well designed to
facilitate easy living for residents with suitable socialising spaces for visits. The friends and families are included for many entertainments. Very good food.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.741)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.741) out of 10 for Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.741 for Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (355 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 436 Ratings = 4.741
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
