Melbourn Springs Care Home offers residential care, dementia care and pre-bookable respite stays.

Committed, friendly and dedicated staff members provide high-quality residential care for older people who benefit from additional care and support in a warm and friendly environment.

The Memory Lane dementia care community at Melbourn Springs incorporates person-centred design in its use of colour and cues to help individuals navigate through the home, whilst thoughtful interior design features, such as adapted crockery and tableware, will assist with reminiscence.

Residents live in smaller communities with a family feel so that they can feel safe and comfortable. Care is focused on independence, dignity and choice, with a person-centred approach. Staffing levels reflect the needs of residents, and people living with dementia are offered a range of activities to help preserve life skills, support interactions and retain a sense of purpose and independence.

The village of Melbourn is steeped in history and has some of the most beautiful thatched cottages in the country, and the springs at Melbourn Bury, along with the peaceful River Mel, have also made it very popular with locals and visitors alike.

A great addition to the village has been the Melbourn Community Hub which comprises of the Bookmark Café, the library, parish council offices and it is also a venue for many community activities and events. There are many clubs and societies that meet regularly, the village is renowned for a strong rural, community spirit that continues to thrive, and which Melbourn Springs Care Home is very much a part of.

My mother-in-law moved in a few months ago. She is well looked after, the carers are very friendly and care deeply about the residents. Any request I make is acted upon quickly. My feedback is heard if something needs to change. The environment is lovely and the food is very nice.

Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home is amazing. My mum is so happy and tells me all the time. The care and kindness is second to none. It feels like a well-looked-after home, not a care home. My mum’s room is lovely. Nicer than her room in her flat. Happy Mum, happy us!

My mother has been in Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home for about one year. We expected it to take time for her to settle in, having previously lived independently for over twenty years, but she felt at home almost straight away. It is not only a very safe and comfortable place but the care provided
has been excellent.

Mum has been in Melbourne for several weeks. As a lady who loves her food, she is bitterly disappointed with the whole experience. Breakfast - if having a cooked breakfast that has been fine. There is no granola-type option or fruit.
Lunch - as a person who generally loves fish - Friday fish has been
meagre portions, and described by mum as “the worst fish I’ve ever eaten.” Very little or no fresh vegetables, eg on Sunday just a few carrots, no fresh green vegetables. Insufficient meat. Evening meal, soup - generally okay, Fresh home-baked bread listed on the menu is not available.
Sandwiches - poor quality bread, no salad or coleslaw to go with it. Mum is used to having salad every day.
On the day she chose cheese and biscuits she was given 2 crackers and when asked for more was told there may not be enough! Eventually, she was given 2 more.
Fruit salad is often listed but not always available.
The dining room looks appealing, and the menu looks attractive, but what’s delivered does not match.

My great-nan lives in memory lane and the care is amazing. A particular care assistant and my great-nan get on very well and they are very friendly and caring. My great-nan always looks much happier and better when they are in work.

The staff are very attentive, have taken very good care of my mother.

Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home is a beautiful home, luxuriously decorated and furnished. When Mum moved there in 2020, she didn't need much personal care and all was well. However, when Mum's dementia worsened, she moved to Memory Lane and I saw a decline in the standard of her personal care
(unwashed face, long dirty fingernails). The carers are caring, friendly and hardworking but I don't think there are enough to provide high-quality care to residents with dementia. After a hospital stay, the management refused to take Mum back, saying she must transfer to a nursing care home. Several other experienced health professionals disagreed - but still Mum couldn't return. I think there was another reason for this. Mum is now in another residential home where she's put on 9lbs (more time to eat meals), personal cleanliness is better and no infections. Melbourn Springs' activities, entertainment and food are wonderful but if your loved ones need a lot of personal care it may not be the best place for them.

Mum came out of hospital just before Christmas. When she was settled, I asked if she wanted anything and she said "just a cuddle" from her favourite carer. He we working on another floor that day but came down at lunchtime to give her what she needed.
His family and dog attended the Christmas dinner
which made my mum's day.

On first impressions, Melbourn Springs looks lovely but do not be fooled. We visited twice before the respite stay, asked questions and were given lots of reassurance that they could care for my Mum. I wrote comprehensive notes to help the staff care for my Mum, I'm not even sure they were shared with
the staff. She was never showered, just stripped wash (with no evidence of a flannel in the bathroom), no hair wash, they never put in her false tooth. Teeth were not cleaned. The chair in the room was not suitable, nothing was done. She went from being able to move around her own home to being left in a chair she couldn't get out of, she was extremely upset and distressed when I collected her. I am appalled at the level of care provided and we will never use again. If you are considering using this home, please get all conversations documented and ensure they can meet the needs of your family member.

We’re sorry again we weren’t able to support with a replacement chair for Mum’s room - as explained, requests for specialised seating require referrals and assessments which can take around 4-6 weeks, which sadly wasn’t possible during Mum’s short stay. Our teams will always encourage residents to take part and spend time with other residents if they feel up to it, and they did visit Mum each day to see if she wished to join any activities. My mother was one of the first residents of Melbourn Springs, arriving a few weeks after it opened. The home is modern, comfortable, welcoming and appears sparkling clean. Mum is very well cared for in a safe and secure environment by staff who understand her individual requirements, doing their best
to administer these to a high standard. The staff are very friendly and demonstrate an impressive range of interpersonal skills. I have always found communication with staff to be excellent, with nothing too much trouble. The catering, in my opinion, can only be described as outstanding with a good choice of quality food each day. I have, additionally, been so impressed with the wide range of activities organised for residents, should they wish to partake.

My experience has been positive in every respect. There are really excellent carers who look after my wife even better than myself.
They attend to her every need and show more understanding and compassion than I ever expected. This is after her being rejected by another care home who gave me notice
that they were unable to manage her needs. I recommend Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home wholeheartedly.

Moving a loved one into a care home is never easy. We had to make that difficult decision over 2 years ago and have never regretted choosing Melbourn Springs.
The level of care to date has been outstanding and my mother-in-law’s life has been enhanced since becoming part of the ‘Melbourn Springs family.’

department plays its part in making Melbourn Springs what it is. Such a happy caring safe and special home from home.

My father was a respite resident a couple of times at Melbourn Springs. On both occasions, arrangements needed to be made at short notice due to bouts of ill health of my mother. This was handled with great efficiency by the home allowing my father to take up residency quickly and providing flexibility
to extend his stay as needed. The staff and facilities are excellent and always accommodating. Knowing my father would be well looked after and in a safe environment was a great relief and helped minimise any additional stress, particularly for my mother, allowing her to focus on her recovery. Even though my father suffered from dementia, on his second visit he recognised the home and was happy to be back- a testament in itself!

Mum has now been a resident at Melbourn Springs for almost a year and is extremely happy!
The entire staff, including management, carers, housekeeping, catering, groundsmen, reception and, of course, the indefatigable activity leaders are a wonderful mix of kindness, fun and professionalism and I have
no worries whatsoever about her care or her day-to-day needs.
The food is wonderful, the activities frequent, diverse and entertaining and Mum, who has dementia, loves the sociability, variety and companionship of her life there.
Families are welcome to visit and kept up to date constantly and every time I visit, the atmosphere is happy, fun and relaxed.
We couldn’t have chosen a better place for Mum and her smiles and laughter tell me all I need to know!

My father has been a resident for three months and I can't speak highly enough of Melbourn Springs Care Home. The staff especially are all amazing and continuously go the extra mile. Nothing is too much trouble. The home is beautifully decorated, and wonderfully equipped and there is always something

His privacy was always maintained in a beautiful way, and I felt cared for when I visited him every day.

The home has been incredibly helpful. It was quite traumatic for me to move Mum into care and to move her across the country but the staff was so supportive. Mum is settling in really nicely and seems happy now.

Hello, my name is Deirdre Rogers and I am the Resident Ambassador at Melbourn Springs.


I am a volunteer and my role is to support the residents and their relatives and act as their voice. I listen to their compliments, concerns and suggestions and share this information with Magda, the General Manager, on a regular basis. I also attend the meetings for Residents and Relatives.


My stepmother was a resident of the Elstar community for three years, having moved here in December 2021.


I am retired and was previously employed as an Ofsted Early Years Inspector and Team Manager for 20 years. I have also worked as a volunteer setting up many local community projects as well as a befriender for Age UK.


I aim to ensure that a high standard of care for all residents is maintained and continuously improved.
