My mother-in-law moved in a few months ago. She is well looked after, the carers are very friendly and care deeply about the residents. Any request I make is acted upon quickly. My feedback is heard if something needs to change. The environment is lovely and the food is very nice.

Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home is amazing. My mum is so happy and tells me all the time. The care and kindness is second to none. It feels like a well-looked-after home, not a care home. My mum’s room is lovely. Nicer than her room in her flat. Happy Mum, happy us!

My mother has been in Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home for about one year. We expected it to take time for her to settle in, having previously lived independently for over twenty years, but she felt at home almost straight away. It is not only a very safe and comfortable place but the care provided has been excellent.

Mum has been in Melbourne for several weeks. As a lady who loves her food, she is bitterly disappointed with the whole experience. Breakfast - if having a cooked breakfast that has been fine. There is no granola-type option or fruit.
Lunch - as a person who generally loves fish - Friday fish has been meagre portions, and described by mum as “the worst fish I’ve ever eaten.” Very little or no fresh vegetables, eg on Sunday just a few carrots, no fresh green vegetables. Insufficient meat. Evening meal, soup - generally okay, Fresh home-baked bread listed on the menu is not available.
Sandwiches - poor quality bread, no salad or coleslaw to go with it. Mum is used to having salad every day.
On the day she chose cheese and biscuits she was given 2 crackers and when asked for more was told there may not be enough! Eventually, she was given 2 more.
Fruit salad is often listed but not always available.

The dining room looks appealing, and the menu looks attractive, but what’s delivered does not match.

It is excellent that the activities are catered to those both with and without dementia.
The facility itself is great.

Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home is a beautiful home, luxuriously decorated and furnished. When Mum moved there in 2020, she didn't need much personal care and all was well. However, when Mum's dementia worsened, she moved to Memory Lane and I saw a decline in the standard of her personal care (unwashed face, long dirty fingernails). The carers are caring, friendly and hardworking but I don't think there are enough to provide high-quality care to residents with dementia. After a hospital stay, the management refused to take Mum back, saying she must transfer to a nursing care home. Several other experienced health professionals disagreed - but still Mum couldn't return. I think there was another reason for this. Mum is now in another residential home where she's put on 9lbs (more time to eat meals), personal cleanliness is better and no infections. Melbourn Springs' activities, entertainment and food are wonderful but if your loved ones need a lot of personal care it may not be the best place for them.

Mum came out of hospital just before Christmas. When she was settled, I asked if she wanted anything and she said "just a cuddle" from her favourite carer. He we working on another floor that day but came down at lunchtime to give her what she needed.

His family and dog attended the Christmas dinner which made my mum's day.

On first impressions, Melbourn Springs looks lovely but do not be fooled. We visited twice before the respite stay, asked questions and were given lots of reassurance that they could care for my Mum. I wrote comprehensive notes to help the staff care for my Mum, I'm not even sure they were shared with the staff. She was never showered, just stripped wash (with no evidence of a flannel in the bathroom), no hair wash, they never put in her false tooth. Teeth were not cleaned. The chair in the room was not suitable, nothing was done. She went from being able to move around her own home to being left in a chair she couldn't get out of, she was extremely upset and distressed when I collected her. I am appalled at the level of care provided and we will never use again. If you are considering using this home, please get all conversations documented and ensure they can meet the needs of your family member.

My mother was one of the first residents of Melbourn Springs, arriving a few weeks after it opened. The home is modern, comfortable, welcoming and appears sparkling clean. Mum is very well cared for in a safe and secure environment by staff who understand her individual requirements, doing their best to administer these to a high standard. The staff are very friendly and demonstrate an impressive range of interpersonal skills. I have always found communication with staff to be excellent, with nothing too much trouble. The catering, in my opinion, can only be described as outstanding with a good choice of quality food each day. I have, additionally, been so impressed with the wide range of activities organised for residents, should they wish to partake.

My experience has been positive in every respect. There are really excellent carers who look after my wife even better than myself.

They attend to her every need and show more understanding and compassion than I ever expected. This is after her being rejected by another care home who gave me notice that they were unable to manage her needs. I recommend Barchester Melbourn Springs Care Home wholeheartedly.

Moving a loved one into a care home is never easy. We had to make that difficult decision over 2 years ago and have never regretted choosing Melbourn Springs.
The level of care to date has been outstanding and my mother-in-law’s life has been enhanced since becoming part of the ‘Melbourn Springs family.’
Every department plays its part in making Melbourn Springs what it is. Such a happy caring safe and special home from home.

It is so reassuring to have such a wonderful team looking after my mother-in-law especially so now as health issues have become more complex.

My father was a respite resident a couple of times at Melbourn Springs. On both occasions, arrangements needed to be made at short notice due to bouts of ill health of my mother. This was handled with great efficiency by the home allowing my father to take up residency quickly and providing flexibility to extend his stay as needed. The staff and facilities are excellent and always accommodating. Knowing my father would be well looked after and in a safe environment was a great relief and helped minimise any additional stress, particularly for my mother, allowing her to focus on her recovery. Even though my father suffered from dementia, on his second visit he recognised the home and was happy to be back- a testament in itself!

Mum has now been a resident at Melbourn Springs for almost a year and is extremely happy!
The entire staff, including management, carers, housekeeping, catering, groundsmen, reception and, of course, the indefatigable activity leaders are a wonderful mix of kindness, fun and professionalism and I have no worries whatsoever about her care or her day-to-day needs.
The food is wonderful, the activities frequent, diverse and entertaining and Mum, who has dementia, loves the sociability, variety and companionship of her life there.
Families are welcome to visit and kept up to date constantly and every time I visit, the atmosphere is happy, fun and relaxed.
We couldn’t have chosen a better place for Mum and her smiles and laughter tell me all I need to know!

Thank you to everyone for your care and kindness to Mum.
