On a few occasions, my father was not appropriately dressed for the weather and unshaven/showered. His room was often untidy but when discussed with carer this was immediately remidied. The point I am making is that this should have been noticed and sorted without intervention from family.

Residents are treated well but in my experience abilities of residents are over estimated. Understand their dignity is important but this is often given too much consideration for those who are less able to make their own decisions,

We have been very pleased with how my mum has settled making friends and feeling well supported by the staff. She enjoys the food and her room overall is exactly right for her. She gets stimulation from all the events and the interaction with other residents. We are pleased that someone takes her to church.
We think that a regular diarised health review would be very helpful.
We are surprised that staff do not regularly monitor her blood pressure given that she has dizzy spells and is a 'fainter'.
The clothing situation is exasperating when items go missing for prolonged periods.
Washing instructions appear to be considered optional resulting in woolen items returning shrunk and misshapen.
You could explore the possibility of using an spiritual care to come in and speak with residents.
She needs reminding about events that

are scheduled otherwise she just misses them which is a shame.

Reply from Michael Moore, Home Manager at Woodthorpe Lodge

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We're delighted to hear that your mum has settled so well, is enjoying her room, the food, activities, and has made friends. We're also pleased she is able to attend church, as we know how important this is to her.

It would be nice to see sky added to T.V so sports can be watched more often. Also residents not to be ask if they want to go bed early ( which happened more in winter) ive found my parents in bed a few times when arrived late and they said they

had been ask to go to bed . Also for them to be included in outings even if in a wheelchair. Some times if you say let's go here they are more willing than if given a choice ( I know your not aloud to force but some residents will just say no because its easier. This is not forcing it's encouraging)

My father came to Woodthorpe Lodge when he was 90, with quite advanced dementia. He quickly settled in, no doubt due to the care and re-assurance of all the staff. I have visited on many occasions, and have never heard anyone, resident, carer or associated professional, say anything bad about the home. Other residents have told me 'its the best home in the world' and a district nurse, visiting my dad said 'if I need to go into care I want to come here'.

Overall, Woodthorpe Lodge is a really lovely place to live. It is very clean and modern, and from what I have seen, the food is very good, and most of the staff are very friendly and caring. The only problem I have is the lack of TV channels in residents' rooms and the lack of Activities. Which could lead to some residents getting bored.

Marjorie has been a resident now since September 2024 and I believe she's been well looked after. The staff appear to be attentive and always phone me if there's any problem with mum - so communication is good! She does however complain about the food (she enjoys good food) so perhaps there is some room for improvement here? One or two of the lady carers, according to mum, and whom I have witnessed in looking after her, 'really know their stuff' - and are also kind! They know who they are but I'm not allowed to mention names (lol). Service and care therefore overall Good/Excellent! Thank you.

Since my mother and father arrived at Woodthorpe Lodge all, of the staff have made a big effort to welcome them both, and help them into their new surroundings. The staff and management are always helpful and respond to requests. They always smile and are cheerful, happy and relaxed which helps with the resident's well being and comfort. Knowing that mum and dad were safe, warm and comfortable being fed regularly, and given medication on time has taken a massive weight off me. Thank you and well done to everyone at Woodthorpe Lodge.

My parents have settled well into the Woodthorpe Lodge community. It is good to know they are somewhere safe where they are well cared for and relieved of many of the responsibilities which had become a burden for them. They have comfortable rooms and enjoy engaging in some of the activities. It is good to know that the suggestions they have made in the residents' meetings have been heard and acted on. A big thank you to all the staff.

There is no selection for past resident. I moved my mother from Woodthorpe lodge in August as the care (not from most staff, but the timeliness and obstacles from management) Cleanliness was a real issue, even resulting in taking my own cleaning materials. Even after several complaints and photos, nothing changed. My mother rarely smiled, spending a lot of time alone in her room. Aftercare when she broke her ankle (following an incident in the home) was zero which has impacted on her mobility. I could go on, but my complaints have already been fobbed off by head office. Some staff were excellent but had no time for residents through no fault of their own.

Where she is now is so much better
