Sadly standards
Seem to be slipping again especially at the weekends.
Often when you visit it seems very understaffed, staff may be off doing jobs but that leaves residents unattended in communal areas for lengths at a time. Staff do their best and are lovely. mum has also had some falls in her room meaning she isn't found until carers do their rounds , it was discussed over 6 months ago that emergency help buttons would be purchased to be worn on wrists or around the neck these still have yet to materialise
And yet again issues with laundry ,too many times now family has

visited and no underwear was in her drawers , where is it all going ? also we find many items of clothing that do not belong to her , and I see other residents wearing her clothes. Many items have also gone missing lots of brand new pairs of shoes and slippers ,or just 1 of a pair missing ! Water jugs and glasses are often not in the room again also im concerned about yet another new owner

Dear Michelle,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We are sorry you feel recent standards have fallen short of expectations, especially around weekend staffing and supervision in communal areas; we have taken your feedback seriously. We appreciate your recognition of the team's efforts and want...

The staff work hard sometimes under trying circumstances. Some of the residents can be very difficult & abusive to staff but they treat everyone with care & compassion never raising their voices.
Some of my sisters' clothes go missing, whilst I realise staff cannot patrol the bedrooms it is annoying particularly when items are tagged & some never turn up again.
The facilities are very good, everything looks clean & tidy apart from the internal garden area which is looking very untidy with dead summer bedding still there & furniture strewn about.
Sometimes there is a lack of communication between staff & requests are sometimes left unresolved.
My sister's next of kin was not informed of a letter from the hospital for a hospital appointment dated Oct 20th but scheduled for Nov 25th this had to be cancelled on the day of the appointment as we had other activities planned that day.

The staff try hard to keep residents active & engaged in numerous activities.

Overall Experience

Mum's experience started off very well, in lovely surroundings with a pleasant room, good food and excellent activities. However, as time has moved on and she is becoming increasingly frail, it begins to feel that she is not receiving appropriate care. Many, if not most of her clothing and personal belongings have gone missing, despite labelling - laundry has been particularly problematic. Recently Mum has had falls, leading to a paramedic being called out who diagnosed that she was dehydrated - hence dizziness and falls. On the morning after, my brother went to visit to try and give her some fluid, which was not easy, as she was lying in bed so he had to support her sitting up. When a carer came into the room, my brother asked her if Mum had had breakfast. The carer did not know and went to check, returning with a bowl of cereal with milk, which my brother managed to help Mum to eat. Considering Mum's condition, it seems neglectful not to check that she was actually getting fluids.

We as a family have been very pleased with the care of my mum in your care home. The staff are very caring friendly and approachable. We have been kept well informed of any needs. Mum has been very happy here. She has been reluctant to join in with some of the many activities but when she has participated it has been lovely to see her smiling and enjoying herself despite her dementia.

Management and Front of House staff are very polite and friendly, and any queries which we raised through emails to the managers are swiftly dealt with. Mum appreciates the pampering opportunities, hair care, nail treatments etc. We do feel that mum does not engage in too many activities which we feel would enhance her lifestyle, perhaps the staff could push, use inclusion a little more, albeit difficult, I know.

Overall, the experience is good, but in order to give feedback to improve:
- Some medical appointments have been missed as I have not been notified.

- Dad's room is too clattered with nappies etc. As this is his living space, finding a different storage approach would be preferable.

Mum has thoroughly enjoyed her time at Woodthrope Lodge. The staff have all been extremely helpful and supportive of her and her direct family. We have all enjoyed visiting Woodthoorpe Lodge as it's very inviting, very clean and always well-presented. Whenever we have asked for things to be done for Mum, they have been very quick to oblige. I would recommend Woodthorpe Lodge as a care facility.

Since experiencing this care home I find it outrageous the way certain members of staff, in particular, the woman with dark hair and glasses show little or no respect to my wife, the staff are always on their phones instead of doing the basic tasks they are paid to do!
On a recent visit, the aforementioned member of staff repeated in a very sarcastic way to other members of staff my conversation to my mother-in-law.
Let's get this right this is not a tree service the costs are high you would expect to be treated in a respectful and courteous manner by all staff.
It is not all staff but the ones that are bad are terrible.
And how can this business be allowed to get staff to write reviews surely a conflict of interest.

We have visited and my mother-in-law only had on a dressing gown nothing else and was covered in dried on excrement maybe this home needs investigating.

All staff are polite, professional and exceptionally helpful. The building itself is very well equipped and kept immaculately.

I have been a resident here since 06/12/2023. On the whole, it is a lovely place and the staff are nice. It is better now I am able to lock my room as I was having trouble with other residents coming in and moving my stuff. It's nice that I can enjoy doing my own thing in my room or join in the activities if I want to. I love attending the church service. My only worry is that my bin doesn't get emptied every day which is not nice as I am incontinent and use it for my pads.
