A smiley and friendly receptionist greets us on arrival, excellent care staff, they are very caring to all the residents, very clean home. I love following Poets Mews Care Home on social media, seeing the photos of mum enjoying the activities and smiling when I am not visiting her and unable to see it myself. Living in Dorset is especially nice that I can book a meal in the private dining room and have it with mum when we visit. Any little issues are promptly sorted out by the handymen. Mum has settled in and says she is being spoilt and lucky to find a lovely home. This is a first-class care home, thank you and well done.

This is the second time I have been to Poets Mews for a week's respite and I must say If I had to go to a care home this is the one I would definitely consider. All the staff are so kind, nothing is too much trouble. The foreign staff were especially helpful. Having a facility for hot drinks at any time is a bonus. Thank you all.

A huge thank you to the staff at Poets Mews who made our family celebrations with Mum on her 93rd Birthday such a special day.

It was her first Birthday at Poets Mews after moving in a couple of months ago. Where she has settled in very well and is enjoying all that Poets Mews offers. We as a family are so happy with the care so far, that Mum has received since becoming a part of the community at Poets Mews!

We are very happy with Poets Mews as is my father. The staff are always helpful and cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. It was my father's 90th birthday this month and the staff made it a very special day for him to enjoy. A lovely cake was made and shared. We find all aspects of Poets Mews excellent and would recommend to others.

Dad has settled very well into Poets Mews.
The facilities are excellent, clean and in particular the staff at all levels are kind, friendly and inclusive. I always get a big welcome, and Dad is very obviously well looked after and above all safe.

Minor points would be some more activities for men - most of the male residents are engineers it seems - and they would enjoy a model construction/building club? Maybe better communication re health please.

Poets Mews seems to be constantly understaffed and asking for simple things to be done seems very challenging. I have asked for my Mum’s TV to be installed for months and pictures put up but it is a gradual and slow process. If you are in on respite nothing is too much trouble until you become a permanent resident, staff are constantly running around, great lack of management. A friend of my mum's who is a care home nursing manager has commented to us how badly this home is managed. Managers work 9 till 5, but most have left by 4 pm, they only care about money. Constant agency staff who don't even know who the senior carer is or the duty manager.
Positives, nice decor, warm, food is ok, coffee room.

Negatives, always a lot of strangers wandering about, my mum's room is not clean, light fitting full of dirt and dead flies, bathroom dirty, corridors smell of urine and are covered up with air fresheners, very understaffed, lack of decent management. Very high fees all considered.

After visiting a friend in Poets Mews for just over a year I thought it’s time I’d left a review. As soon as you walk in it feels welcoming. We can sit and have a coffee and cake in the garden or in one of the beautiful lounges. The staff are polite, friendly and attentive. The management and reception team are always helpful and welcoming. The home is clean and tidy and their bedroom is always the same. The range of activities they have to offer covers many interests and have even joined in myself sometimes! My friend always compliments the food and the dining room always looks well presented.

We moved my dad from hospital to Poets Mews in May. My dad is on the memory floor as he has dementia, he is treated with dignity and respect. He is well cared for and receives great support from the care staff when required. I visit every day, Dad is always showered and wearing clean clothes. The home is spotlessly clean, Dad's room is always clean and tidy.
Dad says the food is excellent and there is always plenty of it. All the meals I have seen look delicious.
The activities are just right for Dad, as he enjoys the weekly chair yoga as he has always been an active person. He enjoys the art sessions, but his favourite are weekly music sessions, it's a different choir, singer, or musician every week.
I cannot fault the staff at Poets Mews, as it's been a very stressful time, making the difficult decision to move Dad there, as we could no longer manage him at home. The support and care given to myself and my mother has been amazing.

Dad says he is happy and very well cared for.

My husband has been on the memory floor for a few months now. I know he is safe and well cared for. The food he keeps telling me is great. The staff are always smiling and kind to both my husband and me. Even when he is being difficult and believe me he can be difficult, they always try to make things right for him. He enjoys doing some of the things like armchair yoga, and the diffrent music. Along with most dementia people they sometimes say no to doing things even when the staff know it is something they would like. They can't be made to do anything so it's very difficult in those circumstances for the staff as they have to respect that persons wishes. The staff from the from all departments at Poet's Mews deserve a medal for doing a very difficult job which I and my family were no longer able to do for my husband. I visit most days and see how the staff trying to make things fun for residents, ice cream sodas, cheese and pineapple on sticks . Well done to you all.

My mother has been a resident at Poets Mews for some fifteen months. She has dementia. She is totally happy and talks about the wonderful place where she lives. I have absolute confidence in the staff and the quality of the care my mother receives twenty-four-seven. The staff show affection for my mother and encourage her and we are welcomed as if part of the Poets Mews family, which is how we feel.

Management at this home work on a tick box basis. Never actually checking beneath what the form says. Despite the fact even a small amount of probing would highlight things are far from done correctly or with any compassion.
Her breath recently smelt like excrement. The box was ticked for her teeth being cleaned!
Since my Mum has been here no one has ever seen management out of their office. Apparently, they walk the home twice a day but have managed to avoid being seen by any of the visitors Mum has.
Staff blatantly lie about things they are caught out on.
Activities are limited and of no value. She recently participated in a yoga session. This is laughable. It's an example of how the truth is twisted. She may have been in the room but she was not participating.
We're trapped. Mum has dementia, is easily upset. What impact of a move?
My advice to anyone considering Poets Mews Clevedon is don't do it in the first place.

Finances are the only thing cared about. Be warned.

I’ll start with the positives. Food is of a reasonable quality. Some members of staff are warm and friendly. Overall though this home seems to do the bare minimum.
I have frequently found my nan's bed covered with excrement, smelling of urine and poorly cleaned. She is always in bed when I turn up. No effort made to encourage her out.
She is on the dementia floor and I only ever see residents sitting, nothing to stimulate them from what I can see.
My nan often appears to not have had her teeth brushed or hair done.
Last time I was there her sheets had excrement on them but they could not be changed as there were no clean sheets!
My nan is one of the lucky ones who has frequent visitors able to get her out and monitor things so I dread to think what happens if people don’t.

The sad truth is this is probably not one of the worst homes. However, my nan pays a fortune for what in my view is below basic care.

My nan has been in Poets Mews care since July 2022. There have been a lot of changes within this time. The majority of the staff on the floor are great people, friendly, attentive when they have time to be, and strike a balance of friendship and care in their interactions. Behind the scenes, however, I’ve been extremely saddened by the lack of resources, attention to detail, and management of the home.
With almost every visit, I arrive to dirty sheets, and a dirty bathroom and the smell has been enough to sting eyes. This is rectified upon locating staff, but my nan has dementia and is very quiet so does not complain, therefore in the instance we are not visiting, nothing is done. She is rarely clean (dry faeces on her body and clothes) and whilst I appreciate she is regressing due to dementia, there is a severe lack of entertainment/any stimulus meaning she is left in bed all day and depression is the lonely and isolating outcome.

They need better management and more resources.

My mum stayed in Poets Mews, Memory Floor, from December 2022 until her death in August 2023. Throughout her time there, the staff treated her with kindness and respect. Most importantly, they connected with her and knew what she liked, mostly singing and eating! I popped in at all times of day and often came in to hear her voice echoing down the hall, singing her favourite show tune with the lovely staff. Thanks to the manager and all the team for doing such a great job and making Mum's final months as happy as possible.

My mum was well cared for the entire two weeks of her respite stay. The staff were outstanding in her care and personality always pleasant.
Food was varied and always enjoyed.
Her room was comfortable and well laid out, making it easy and accessible for her as she has very little sight.

The mattress would be our only complaint, very lumpy. This resulted in a sore, painful back, and I had to order a mattress topper for the second week. Suprised there are not readily available for elderly people when comfort is important.
