My mother went into care at Poets Mews on 3-10-22. I have found that the care does not match the five-star facilities. Staffing issues and agency staff compound the problem.

I have been a resident here for nearly three years. I consider the overall facilities only average and quite expensive for the services provided, but in recent months have come to an understanding with management and things are going a little more smoothly.
I am confining this review to a specific
point which is the state of the gardens which, although I consider to be first-class, leaves a lot to be desired in what I think would be the North East corner where outside one of the resident's rooms is an unsightly mass of flower pots in various stages of size and use and, believe it or not, including three watering cans.
I have mentioned this to management who appear to have done very little about the matter and the situation has got slightly worse over a period of time.

My mother was a resident of the home from April 2020 until March 2022. Due to lockdown restrictions, family members had only limited opportunities to visit my mother during her first year at Poets Mews. Due to these restrictions, we were unable to visit her regularly in her room on the memory floor
until Summer 2021. When family members were able to visit my mother regularly in her room, we quickly became concerned about the standard of care she was receiving.
Many of the staff seemed to be trying to do their best but they did not seem to know what was expected of them and communication between staff members and at shift changes seemed to be non-existent. Staff could rarely answer questions about my mother's recent sleep patterns, about when she had last had any personal care or about what she had had to eat or drink. Care was haphazard at best, and seemed to depend on a member of staff remembering that my mother had not had personal care or remembering to offer her food and drink.

My mother has recently entered Poets Mews Care Home. Due to the pandemic, we are unable to enter the home but she reports that the staff are kind, caring and supportive. She thinks the food is excellent and is looking forward to taking part in some of the activities they are offering. There seems to
be very varied and engaging programmes. We are very pleased with all the efforts of the staff in making mum welcome.

My Dad has been a resident at Poets Mews since January this year. In what have been exceptional circumstances due to COVID, the staff have been unfailingly kind and compassionate and always to my knowledge very professional. The best thing is that Dad even with his Alzheimer's is able to tell me how
much he loves being where he is and how kind everyone is to him. My sister and I feel so happy and relieved to see him looking so well and content. Thank you so much.

I am here to sing praises for the maintenance man in this home. His approach is exemplary, his attitude at all times is pleasant and helpful and he is always a pleasure to ask for help. His knowledge of computer and television is extraordinary and I would at any time recommend his help for any work

My father moved into Poets Mews in February 2020. The care he received and the contact we had with them, even during the demands of lockdown has been first class. Sadly, my father's health deteriorated and he needed end of life care. This was given with great empathy, attention to detail and above all
dignity. I will be forever grateful for how cared for my father was and the care we received too.

This is mum's second stay at Poets Mews. After her first respite break, she said she felt content there so it was an obvious choice for us again. I have found the staff approachable and professional and mum regularly comments on how good the food is and that she sleeps well and "can't fault it". The
interiors are beautiful and the gardens lovely and the team have been accommodating with visits during the current pandemic.

Staff are extremely friendly. When my mother passed away the staff were excellent and so caring and treated her with great dignity and respect. They gave my wife and I all the support we needed.

My mother had a fall in the evening when the night staff were on duty. The night staff were exceptional, in particular one member of staff who was so reassuring and helpful to my mother and kept us informed throughout the night.

I have been here only 3 weeks and am very impressed with my experience so far. I had previously spent 6 years in a residential home and needing care, I moved here on 31 January 2020. The accommodation is a year old and is a very high standard.
The staff are good and very caring.

Hello, I’m Rachel a senior care assistant here at Poets Mews Care Home in Clevedon, I first came to Poets Mews as an agency carer for 6 months and really loved all the residents, the staff and the managers. I thought to myself that I never wanted to leave Poets Mews and wanted to become a permanent member of the staff. This is when the manager gave me the role of being a Senior Care Assistant. I love my job as all the residents are so happy and very friendly and really enjoy staying here.


They enjoy all the activities which always puts a smile on my face when I see them all enjoying themselves. It’s lovely to see that we all as a team make a difference to the residents on a day-to-day basis.
