Hazel End is a lovely welcoming care home. My mum has been a resident here since March this year and as a family we are really pleased with the care given to her by the care team. The staff encourage us to visit and use the facilities as if we were visiting mum in her own home. The tables are always set beautifully at meal times with a menu and good choice and variety of food and the home is kept immaculately clean. Mum is seen by the Doctor, District Nurse and Community Physio as required and the Senior Care Team report back with regular updates.

We Zoom my mother every evening, and almost without fail she complains about the quality of the food, we pay an awful lot of money and it really should be better. We would happily meet to discuss suggestions.

This home is good as a persons own home, it takes the vision of a home to another level. The care team staff are fabulous and show consideration and care to the guests and to each other. I would recommend Hazel End Care home it is the perfect place to be in for our circumstances and I can't wish for more. I want to thank everyone who has helped Mum to not only be here but getting her dignity and zest for life back. Thank you.

On each arrival to the home, the staff have been very kind and pleasant. The home is very clean and welcoming. The staff have always offered me a cup of tea and it never seems to be a chore for them. There has been a couple of occasions when there's nobody at the desk and I've been left standing in the foyer for some time until somebody comes and opens the door. On visiting my mum's room in the morning a couple of times her room wasn't made up, and the commode hadn't been emptied. The staff have responded well and quickly to my mum's medical emergencies and have kept my brother and I fully informed of her situation. Overall, the home is excellent, clean, tidy with no rubbish and each floor is unique having different rooms for different things, sun room/tea room/cinema etc.

My mum moved to Hazel End Care Home in mid December, it has taken a little while for her to adjust to a different way of living but she is now settled and happy. The staff are very approachable and compassionate. If you have a question to ask it is always answered honestly and in a professional manner. I am content in the knowledge that my mum is well looked after and safe. Also if my mum became unwell I know that a member of staff would contact me immediately.

My mother-in-law has been a resident since December 2022 and I cannot fault the care she has been given from day one. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, the private rooms are well set out and decorated, the communal areas are spacious and beautifully furnished, the food is excellent, the activities are brilliant but most important of all, the staff are all friendly, patient, caring and kind. I cannot recommend this home highly enough. It is quite expensive but you get what you pay for!

My Father came to Hazel End Care Home in April this year with mild needs due to a couple of falls, he was placed on the top floor requiring help to remind him to change his clothes etc and to monitor any falls.
Unfortunately due to a rare dementia diagnosis, his needs progressed really fast. Hazel End have worked really hard changing plans to accommodate his needs on an almost daily/weekly basis, nothing has been too much trouble and they are always trying to find ways to keep him comfortable and out of harm. I would say they have always gone over and above to meet his needs.
Just this weekend they changed practices again to protect him, my daughter who works in a specialist neurological hospital said "that is really going over and above" "I am really impressed".
The day and night staff in the home are really caring and attentive to the needs of the residents, they are friendly and always smiling constantly supporting and reassuring residents and relatives.

Excellent Care Home!

I have a comfortable room and well looked after most staff are pleasant and helpful (but some are a little forgetful!).
There have been problems with food, it is not always served on hot plates.
Sometimes what is served does not correspond with the four-week menu or even the daily menu. Deserts often have too high a calorie count. The call button in my room frequently fails and the installers have not yet been able to resolve the problem.

My overall impression of the home is good and I am certainly not unhappy.

Sadly my lovely mum was bedbound recently due to illness and for a while couldn’t take part in the central activities, so the care team brought the activities to mum. They also arranged for mum to be able to sit upright in her comfy chair which is lovely. Mum has had manicures with her friend in her room, facials, her hair blow-dried, little beaver visits and chocolate Easter eggs delivered to her room. In addition, on mum's birthday, her room was decorated and the whole team came to her room to celebrate with her. In addition to the above, the team also set up face time for me so I can chat with mum at any time during the day, which I really appreciate and sometimes they join in our conversation which is also lovely.

Mum has been in Hazel End Care Home since May 2021, she has settled in well. She is a lady that loves company and getting involved in whatever is going on. She enjoys sitting in the reception area to watch the comings and goings of residents, staff and visitors and likes to chat to everyone. It’s lovely hearing about her day and her growing friendships, especially with the manager. Visits to Mum had been in the Garden room or the library it was just the 2 of us, and while I had met some of the staff I didn’t feel I was getting to know them and seeing Mum interact with them. I do realise this was down to the restrictions of Covid and staffing issues, but this is being addressed by the manager and his team and I personally have seen that the changes are working. This weeks visit I found mum chatting with staff and she was so happy talking to us both. She enjoys playing scrabble, watching formula 1 and cooking, the staff are working hard to ensure that she continues to enjoy the things that she did in her own home.

Dad joined the community in January 2022. He didn’t want to move or to go into a ‘home’. When dad arrived at Hazel End Care Home, he thought he was in a hotel. The warm, welcoming reception area and his room with en-suite facilities gives this feel to the building. The facilities were an important reason for choosing Hazel End. However, it’s the people who make Hazel End a truly special place. The new lifestyle managers have introduced so many activities for the residents that provide the mental stimulation that dementia sufferers need. Dad told us that ‘there’s lots to do here’. Again, activities are great but it’s the way they are run, with enthusiasm, care, encouragement and kindness that’s the best bit. I get regular updates on how dad is doing and I have witnessed those impromptu moments where a resident has needed a hug or a comforting word and carers provide this in abundance. I know Dad is getting great care. The recent relatives’ meeting helped to understand priorities and to give feedback.

During lockdown mum's dementia had progressed and we were not equipped to take care of her any longer. It was a heart-breaking and frightening decision to place Mum in full-time care. During the pandemic, it was impossible to conduct thorough tours of homes and we had to rely on this site, the CQC website and each home’s website to see reviews, pictures/videos of the environment to make decisions. Hazel End was the stand out choice - their website and social media presence gave a real insight into life at the home as the team there are absolutely wonderful and Mum was made to feel very welcome. The facilities are so clean and homely. The team are well trained and versed in risk assessment and management. Their activities are exceptional, the nutrition is quality and the communication invaluable. We can't thank them enough for everything they did for Mum during her 4-month stay, they felt like extended family. In short, Hazel End sets the expected standard for other homes to be measured against.

The staff at Hazel End have worked hard to successfully settle my dad into their care. My dad had suffered considerable trauma over a short period and they have looked after both his physical and mental health, while caring for him while living with dementia. Hazel End is a lovely friendly community with great entertainment and the residents are treated like family members. All the staff are lovely and helpful, nothing is too much bother.
My dad’s room is luxurious, he has an en-suite shower room with a patio door to the outside rear garden. He appreciates the large TV in his room and the staff are more than happy to find him programmes that he likes or set the football up on his iPad. As a keen gardener, Dad has been able to get out into the garden to tend the plants and remove weeds, ready for some summer bedding plants.

I am so grateful to the team at Hazel End, they’ve supported us as a family at a very difficult time.

My Name is Claire Sparks and I am the Home Manager at Hazel End Care Home,

I have worked in care for 9 years starting off in the community and then coming to Hazel End just before we opened our doors.

Prior to working in care, I worked in the hospital as a domestic and one lady thanked me for supporting her and she sadly passed away. This really made me rethink and I was proud of myself for supporting her and had a sense of fulfilment for how grateful she was.

I started working at Hazel End as a Senior Carer, I progressed to Deputy Manager then Care Manager and now Home Manager. I have learnt so much working at Hazel End Care Home and progressed within the home. I'm proud to support our residents and make each day enjoyable living with us.

Kerry Jeffrey
Kerry JeffreyJob Title Team LeaderJoined 2021

My name is Kerry Jeffrey and I am a Team Leader at Hazel End Care Home.

I started working in the care sector 15 years ago after seeing the support my dad had from the nursing team before he passed away. I felt I wanted to give something back to the community and joined a local care team working in the community as a senior carer and then as an area lead. I then moved onto the local hospital working on the wards as an assistant but wanted to get back to the care side of things, so went back out into the community with a hospital at home team until Covid struck. I then applied to work at Hazel End Care Home as a senior carer. This was my first time in a care home, and I loved the close-knit teamwork that you get compared to being out on your own.

I have now been at Hazel End for 4 years and in that time, I have worked my way up to Deputy Manager. When taken over by Anchor I took on the role of Team Leader so I was able to support staff daily on the floor. I like the position I am in as it gives me the opportunity to be a role model for new starters.
