The cognitive status of residents has improved significantly.
We found all the staff we met to be polite, cheerful and caring.
Richmond Manor is a nice home and one I would not mind coming to when a few years have passed.

We find that with the correct team in place (as we have), then it will continue to be one of the best homes for miles around. Thank you.

Richmond Manor provides excellent care for my brother, who has dementia. He has now been a resident for six months and is settling in very well indeed. The environment is warm, friendly and very comfortable, and nothing is too much trouble for the care team. The management team and their entire staff
are lovely, kind, and supportive.
There is always plenty of things to do, with daily activities being offered to all residents. My brother particularly likes the singing and music sessions where he has even been known to dance with other residents.
In the interest of my brother's ongoing care, I would say that choosing Richmond Manor was completely the right decision. I can only thank and praise the hard-working staff for their continued support and commitment, and above all for the happiness I now see in my brother each time I visit.
Reply from Val Foley at Richmond Manor Care HomeWe thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Richmond Manor and appreciate that you can see how hardworking all the team are to ensure your brother and all our lovely residents are cared for in every aspect of their wellbeing. Thank you for choosing Richmond Manor as the home for your brother.

Mum is known by name by the care team. They are helpful and kind and encourage her to take part in the activities going on. The meals are interesting and well balanced and a good portion size for Mum. She has been at Richmond Manor for 8 months and has settled in well. Her room is kept very clean as
are all the common areas.
Reply from Val Foley at Richmond Manor Care HomeWe appreciate your time in leaving an honest review and are so pleased that Mum loves being at Richmond Manor. The team work very well together to deliver the care that our residents need every day. Thank you once again.

I visit my aunty in the home every week since she has been there. She is very happy and enjoys the daily activities and the company of the staff and other residents. This month she really enjoyed watching the chickens hatch and seeing and holding the chicks. She likes all the staff and is happy with
all of the care provided.
Reply from Valerie Foley, Regional Community Relations Lead at Richmond Manor Care HomeThank you for your kind review of our lovely home and especially the staff and the activities we run on a daily basis. The chicks were definitely adored by our residents and we always welcome suggestions for events our residents would enjoy. I will pass your comments on to the team with thanks.

Richmond Manor provides first-class care for Mum, who has dementia. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff from reception and all homemakers, to the kitchen and laundry. The rooms are well furnished and very comfortable. Mum is a very social person and loves taking part in any (and all) of
the activities. She is very happy here and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My partner spent much of his time in Richmond Manor very unhappy and distressed, according to a DISS team report. I feel I was not kept fully informed of his behaviour.
He lost a lot of weight initially, he had dementia, and needed help with his meals.
Laundry could be an issue at times, clothing
damaged, missing, or not pressed, sometimes the clothes he wore didn’t fit and were obviously not his.
Carers on the whole were good, and did their best. The management was poor.
Reply from Valerie Foley, Regional Community Relations Lead at Richmond Manor Care HomeThank you for your review and your comments. We take all feedback seriously and constructively, especially where our service delivery may have fallen below the high standards expected. Our thoughts are with you and members of your partner's family at this difficult time. We would welcome the chance to discuss this further with you in person.

My experience on many occasions over the period from September 2021 until February 2024, was poor. The laundry service was lacking in care, the visit bookings were haphazard, the management and staff were at times quite unwelcoming, though I did find some of the carers very kind and caring.
Reply from Fiona Smith, Home Manager at Richmond Manor Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write this review. We are sorry to hear of your experience, particularly as we do not have record of any concerns raised over the last few years, and would love the opportunity to discuss this with you. With regard to visits, we always appreciate visitors phoning or booking ahead, but there is no restriction on visitors to the care home (unless mandated by government such as Covid-19) and bookings are not required. We are sorry if you tried to arrange visits in advance and you felt that this wasn't followed up appropriately. It is disappointing that you feel the management team and staff were unwelcoming, albeit we are delighted to hear that you found our team kind and caring. I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss any specific concerns you have in person.

When I first visited my friend before Christmas, she was extremely upset, crying and wishing for me to take her home. The second time, she was much the same, third time would not see me. The difference in today's visit is quite unbelievable. She was happy and laughing, and her overall attitude was much
more positive. Now I am really looking forward to seeing her again.

Mum's made Richmond Manor her home since discharge from hospital after care at home became no longer feasible. Mum's care needs are both broad and complex; yet the homemakers and nurses at Hamberley Care Homes' Ampthill site take her living needs in their stride with genuine compassion, patience and
understanding. There is a belief that care at home is the best - but home is where the heart is and, right now, our hearts are firmly here at Richmond Manor. There is absolutely no way that we could have provided the care and support, that Mum is in receipt of, living independently at home. The peace of mind that comes from knowing we've helped Mum experience the best possible nursing care is truly immeasurable.
Reply from Jacqueline Brown, Regional Community Relations Lead at Richmond Manor Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write us such a wonderful review. Reviews like this one make us incredibly proud of our team at Richmond and we will pass on your lovely feedback to all of our staff.

My father has recently become a resident after having transferred from another residential care facility. I have been so impressed from the very start with Richmond Manor, right from my first meeting to settling my dad in and his care goes beyond. The level of care is absolutely everything I would want
for my dad. In 24 hours of him being with them, they immediately identified a medical problem with my dad that could be easily remedied and would hugely improve my dad's quality of life. Excellent service.

Lots of good things - mums room was pleasant and comfortable with its own patio and flower bed. The staff were always friendly and helpful, whatever they were doing somehow they or a colleague would be available within a minute or two. The building was very clean and new. The garden was big enough for
a short walk. I always found a parking space at the front. The only bad thing I can think of is very minor, mum would have liked a few shelves of books to borrow but there is a library in the village.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.739)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.739) out of 10 for Richmond Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.739 for Richmond Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (310 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 376 Ratings = 4.739
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Richmond Manor Care Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
