Moving my mum into a care home was done with much guilt and anxiety but I have to say we couldn’t be happier with the care and kindness shown in this most luxurious of settings. Nothing has been too much trouble and mum has now been in just over two weeks and is having a wonderful time. The visiting
hairdresser yesterday got her spruced up for being able to join the other residents (post 14-day isolation) and today she took tea in the garden and ate the sumptuous lunch in the beautiful dining room. A visiting Occupational therapist was able to assess mum and provide exercises to help improve her mobility after an earlier injury. The attention to detail is fantastic from every single member of the team and the willingness to accommodate her requests whether it be for an early morning spa bath, a bacon sandwich, a Sherry before dinner or jelly for dessert. Surely we all deserve to spend our twilight time being pampered and she is receiving that in abundance. My sleepless nights are over.

The welcome we received from all of the staff was amazing making what could have been a difficult time so much easier. Not only are the purpose-built facilities first class the choice and quality of the meals is of equal quality. Most importantly, the residents are treated with respect and dignity with
nothing being too much trouble, taking the time to make them feel valued and cared for. The initial isolation period could have been really difficult but with the level of care and beautiful ensuite room, this is really a home from home.

This beautiful care home is more of a luxury hotel than a traditional care home; elegant and welcoming. The bedrooms are well equipped with large ensuite rooms with a large display unit for family photos and trinkets and a large TV. This is a chintz free environment! So yes it looks fantastic but what
else? Well, our 96 year old gran is a harsh critic and she has been bowled over by the team on site for whom nothing is too much trouble. She is loving the spa baths where she says she feels safe and completely relaxed with mood lighting and lovely ladies who help her get the most from the spa experience. Swaddled in warm towels she is dressed and taken back to her room to relax before a scrumptious breakfast. She had almost become phobic about bathing after earlier stumbles in her own home but she is a convert to this level of bathing care (thank you night team). The food and drink presentation is sublime and her appetite has improved. The overall attention to detail is fantastic.

Extremely caring and friendly staff. Impeccable service care and compassion. Every care home should operate to this standard of excellence. I cannot fault the service my mom has received this far and would have no hesitation in recommending for your loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.856)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.856) out of 10 for Parkfield Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.856 for Parkfield Grange is calculated as follows: ( (451 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 521 Ratings = 4.856
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parkfield Grange is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

WHAT I DO: I am the activity coordinator at Parkfield Grange and moved into this post in June 2023. My role within the home is to put together a programme of activities to keep all the residents engaged and active within our community. This includes meeting with the residents to understand their likes, dislikes and hobbies and planning activities according to these. This also involves putting together large events within the home and booking outside vendors such as singers, musicians and theatre companies.

MY EXPERIENCE: I have worked within health and social care for most of my career for the past 17 years. I began within the NHS working as an ambulance call taker and then moved to work as a Nursing Assistant within hospitals. I then made the move to working in rehabilitation as a Therapy Support Worker, working with the elderly population in hospitals specialising in rehabilitation following hip surgery. After doing this for nearly 3 years, I made the move to work in a local nursing home as an activity coordinator, but due to the pandemic, I quickly moved to a Care and Senior Carer position within the home, working with dementia residents. I made the move to Parkfield Grange in 2021 as a Senior Care Assistant.

ABOUT ME: I have a Border Terrier puppy called Ruby who loves to come in to work with me and enjoys cuddles and walks in the garden with all our residents.

In my spare time, I enjoy time with my family, long walks and days out with Ruby, and when we are able, love to travel the world, visit new places and meet new people. I also have a weakness for shopping.

I am particularly passionate about creating new and exciting dishes using fresh ingredients, and I was proud to receive the Young Rotary Chef Award earlier in my career.
