My husband is there for Discharge to Assessment from hospital, but already I have paid for him to stay beyond his 4 week initial stay. I hope he can stay here
Staff are marvellous, he's being looked after 24 hours per day. Nothing too much trouble when you ask of them & they action things quickly.
Always a drink to hand & food looks appetising for those who are eating well. All treated with respect.

My Mum was admitted for 2 weeks respite following an hospital admission. It took me a considerable amount of time to complete the paperwork so my Mum who had arrived by ambulance had been in her room for quite a while. We were directed to her room, not shown and found Mum sitting in her chair still
with her coat on. I visited Mum everyday and on most occasions the bed was unmade. Her side table was not cleaned daily. I had to ask for the room to be vacuumed as there had been food on the floor for a few days. Rest of home very clean. I saw staff on numerous occasions on their mobile phones and sitting at the end of the corridor on their mobiles. There were a few kind staff that chatted to Mum. Staff were always polite. We were left waiting for one and a half hours for her discharge summary and meds. I was reassured by staff on 2 occasions that the nurse would come to see us. When the nurse did arrive she apologised for the delay and said she hadn't been told we were waiting.
Reply from Kathleen Presswell, Home Manager at Broxbourne Nursing HomeWe are at a loss to understand your comments, none of which were raised with myself, my deputy or my clinical lead at the time - had they been, they would have been promptly addressed where required. Staff are not allowed to use mobile phones during their shifts and these are locked away - what you perceive as being staff on their personal devices, are dilligent staff using handheld PDAs to complete digital care plan notes. I operate an open door policy and it is always better to speak to the home management when you have a concern, however minor, so that confusion can be cleared up immediately. Sincerely, Kathleen

I witnessed the verbal and physical abuse by a carer of a vulnerable resident. This was reported to management and despite their repeated assurances that they take safeguarding seriously, the carer is still employed there. Beware.
Reply from Kathleen Presswell, Home Manager at Broxbourne Nursing HomeThe saftey of our residents is our priority and your concerns were acted upon immediately. Following a full investigation, all necessary steps were taken and the staff member concerned is no longer employed by us.

Myself and my sister were very unsettled about putting my mum into a care home, but this is 1 the hardest decision we have had to make, but one of the best! My mum has been happy from the day she came. Every staff member knows my mum always says hello and have time for her. The activities are amazing
and my mum loves them. The staff are very attentive and very informative with information we need know. This care home has given my mum a new lease of life. My mum always has a smile on her face and is so happy and that is down to the staff. Thank you for looking after our mum.

The care my nan has been receiving at this home has been outstanding. The staff are so efficient and very helpful, nothing is too much. It's clean and tidy, the room my nan is in is very spacious with nice furniture. The past couple of days I have visited I have seen events laid on for patients, a bbq
with a live singer a birthday party. This home feels like a home from home, not just a care home.

My mum was only there for 4 days before she passed away, I said I continue my review, we got into her room room 2 and was astonished how beautiful and clean it was, my mum so peaceful in the room, the chef brought us tea and coffee in and said if we need anything just ask, (how kind) the health care
assistance are exceptional and couldn't do any more for my mum, they made her so comfortable, as for the lovely 2 nurses in particular were so kind and checked my mum all the time, they put my mind at peace, on my mums last night 6 of us wanted to be with her we just couldn't let go, the nurse said it was not a problem and arranged pillows and sheets for us all, I must not forget the staff and managers at the front desk so helpful, also the maintenance man was unbelievable he sorted out my mum a wheelchair and chatted to my husband's, he also see my daughter upset and got her tissues and water, the place is unbelievably the staff exceptional, pls go and visit

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.792)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.792) out of 10 for Broxbourne Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 49 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 47 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.792 for Broxbourne Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (501 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 576 Ratings = 4.792
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broxbourne Nursing Home is based on 47 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4, which has been reached with 47 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked in the care industry for 17 years in the UK. I come from a long line of doctors and nurses in the family, and seeing my uncles and aunties help people in different ways when they need support and care has inspired me to do the same.

I started my carer in care by being a medical technologist in the Philippines and then a medical surgical nurse. I came to the UK to completed my supervised practice training with City University London and my student nursing placement was at a care home in Winchmore Hill , London Borough, then registered as an Adult Nurse.

I understand the emotional and physical needs of our elderly residents and treat them, their families and staff with kindness and dignity, and I have genuine concern for the elderlies wellbeing. It has always been my priority to create a compassionate , safe and vibrant home where every resident is treated with dignity and respect, staff empowered and supported and families feel confident and connected, ensuring quality of life, not just care.
