The home have been amazing in helping my father to settle in. He was transferred smoothly from hospital and the care he has received has been excellent. He has been able to regain his strength and confidence, whilst feeling safe and secure in his comfortable surroundings. He has enjoyed the food, company

My mother needed full-time care after a number of falls. Birchmere House Care Home was very sympathetic and caring for her needs. After a period of respite, my mother very quickly settled in permanently. The staff are all simply fantastic here, always have a smile on their face and nothing is too much
trouble.
The home is spotless and the facilities are excellent. The entertainment programme is very full with a vast array of activities to keep the community occupied. Trips out on the minibus are particularly fun with regular stops for ice cream.
Overall, the decision to put my mother in Birchmere was exactly the right one and I'm very grateful to everyone who helped my mother settle in and who has made her life such a happy one.
I would thoroughly recommend Birchmere to anyone who is considering a care home in the Solihull area.

I was in Birchmere for a week respite after a replacement knee operation. I found the staff friendly and helpful - good facilities and enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the coffee bar. There was an excellent and varied activity programme to stimulate both physical and mental abilities.
My room was
very comfortable.
My only complaint was that it took me three days to get a table to get over the bed despite numerous requests. There was no ice available to use as a cold compress for my swollen, bruised knee.

My mother was transferred here for ongoing treatment and nursing care. From when she first arrived the atmosphere was warm, friendly and the staff were caring and supportive. I chose Birchmere House for a respite stay for my mum, in order to recover from a lengthy hospital stay, following a recommendation from a friend. She has ended up staying longer, which they were very happy to accommodate.
She was in a very dependent, almost bedridden state when she arrived, is now
mobilising independently and starting to join in with the interesting and varied activities on offer.
She has thoroughly enjoyed the food.
The rooms, and home in general, are very comfortable and adequately equipped.
All of the staff I have met and spoken to have been caring and attentive, and are always pleasant.
All in all a far cry from care homes 30 years ago!
Mum says if she has to go and live in a care home sometime she would choose Birchmere House.

Having viewed other care homes to accommodate my 100yr old mother, I felt satisfied Birchmere Care Home’s quiet and calm setting might cope with her eccentricities.
It was initially for 19-days of respite for us to take a break from constant interventions arising from my mother living in her own three-bed
semi and 3 or 4 carer visits daily after a double stroke. Settling here was a traumatic experience because of her over-anxious personality; it must have been demanding for allocated staff to respond to her fears.
On our return from a restful and entertaining week in North Yorkshire, where we deliberately made no contact with Birchmere Care Home, I was relieved to be greeted by my mum's more relaxed and welcoming smile. Her anxiety had been dissolved.
Despite Covid Lockdown restrictions, staff had helped to enable our decision to establish and seek permanent residency. The selling of property is extremely stressful: I am also an only child.

In our early meetings, they were very kind and extremely patient, discussing with us dad's needs and how they could best be met. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. While dad was in the hospital they liaised with the hospital to ensure they had everything in place to meet his requirements on discharge
and we’re very supportive when his discharge was delayed on a number of occasions due to covid and his changing medical situation.


Dad has now been a resident for 2 months. The staff are kind, professional, and caring. Our first impressions of the home were positive, but you never quite know until you experience things firsthand. We are very happy with the decision we made to house dad at Birchmere. He feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for…they have been great.

We have had a torrid couple of years, losing Dad on Xmas Day 2020 and my Mum had a stroke on 2nd Dec 2020. Mum then had another stroke at the end of January 22. My wife found Birchmere as Mum's needs proper nursing care. I then spoke to a member of staff and we arranged for Mum to go to Birchmere. I
was allowed in for a visit to take a few personal effects and Mum was transported there from the rehab centre in early April. Since then I've had nothing but glowing reports from Mum about the care. The home itself is beautiful, it feels like a proper home and I believe really helps with that transition that everyone must go through moreover the staff are thoughtful and caring, even arranging Facetime calls so I can speak to Mum (there have been a few COVID cases since she moved in). Birchmere House, its staff and the care I believe to be second to none. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a loved one in need of care.

It’s an emotional rollercoaster and a steep learning experience curve when taking the first steps from living independently at home to moving into a residential environment. My brother and I had to fast track mum into Birchmere after a series of falls and whilst we asked as many questions as we could,
there were many that hadn’t occurred to us. The main thing was that mum should be safe and happy! 2 months and a room move within the home later and mum is stronger, happier, less stressed, have put on weight, made friends and thrown herself into the social activities. All of the staff are helpful, friendly and approachable, both to her and to us. There is a genuine sense that they want the residents to be as happy and fulfilled as they can be and to that end, they are proactive in inviting them to join in the various activities. There were teething issues, ours as much as theirs, but all dealt with quickly, professionally and in mum’s best interests. All-round we are very pleased.

My father came for respite care but has since become a full-time resident. Although he is struggling to come to terms with the move, my mum and I are happy with all the help and support we have given. Staff always take the time to see if they can help you.

My mum went to stay at Birchmere for a 2-week respite break after she had broken a bone in her pelvis and had a long stay in hospital. The care she received was second to none. She enjoyed participating in the wide range of activities on offer, and particularly enjoyed the keep fit classes, ceramic
painting and the concert she attended whilst in residence. She commented on how good the food was and nothing was too much trouble. She would definitely stay here again in the future if the need arose.

I came here for rehab after falling in the garden, fracturing a bone in my pelvis and being in hospital for 17 days. I have been treated with extreme kindness by everyone and looked after very well.
The staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful.

Having had a very bad fall my Mother was released from hospital with a care package that although well-intentioned couldn't offer the appropriate structure she needed to properly recuperate. After a few days, it was clear that she didn't feel secure and confident to manage back at home, so we made inquiries
and found respite care available at Birchmere House and booked her in immediately.
Over a three week period, she has had time to recover from the residual injuries from her fall, has enough care and services always on hand to facilitate her getting into a much more robust physical and mental state and allowed us to have sensible discussions about medium and long term arrangements for her. Birchmere House has been the perfect environment for her to make this progress, with its on-site medical support, care facilities and focused and caring support staff.

My sister and I met with the staff from Birchmere House to discuss the care plan for our Mother and talk about how she is settling in. We were very impressed with the details we were provided with and the care our Mother has been given. The staff have clearly been working hard to form a bond with her,
especially in view of the Covid restrictions in place. The reception staff have been particularly helpful and friendly on all our visits.

Very pleasant stay of two weeks. The staff are all very helpful and polite. Other residents are agreeable and many are willing to chat.     1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2. 15 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.2 = 0.987
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello there my name is Kerry I am the Well-being co-ordinator here at Birchmere House. I have the pleasure of working with such wonderful residents as well as family members and work colleagues alike.


My role is so rewarding, I honestly love what I do. We literally laugh here every day, the activity programme is vast and varied and covers seven days a week as well as 3/4 mini bus outings every week too. I like to refer to us as the Birchmere Family because that's exactly what we are, a little family.
