My wife is very well cared for by all members of staff who are involved in her care. The home manager and her deputy, the admin staff, the housekeeping team and the maintenance team are all personally engaged with us. The activities team are frankly amazing - a big asset to the community they look after. Her nurses and carers are all friendly, professional and "on the ball", I am confident that she is well cared for at Barchester Oaklands Care Home in a clean and comfortable environment. Overall, l leave after my visits content that my wife is left in very safe and caring hands.

I can not praise the standard of care that my father has received here enough!
Dad has been a resident in Oaklands Bottisham for almost a year and from the day he arrived he has had the highest standard of care and attention.
Every single member of staff has smiles to greet the residents and their families and they are always happy to do anything required to ensure their residents are as comfortable and happy as possible.
Dad has been so happy here.
I am amazed how the staff, nurses, carers and everyone pop in to see Dad, calling him affectionately Grandad, even when he is not their patient that day.
Recently, due to Dad’s declining health, I have been staying with Dad and the staff have also been constantly ensuring that I am looked after and comfortable.
I was so worried about Dad when it had come to the time that we could no longer care for him at home but I can’t thank Oaklands and everyone there enough!

100% above and beyond care and love.

Reply from Linda Leach, Administrative Assistant at Barchester Oaklands Care Home

Thank you for your very kind words. It has been such a pleasure to have gotten to know you all and to have had the opportunity to care for your father who will be remembered to us all as Grandad.

My mum has been here for 5 weeks and the staff are tremendous. All of them know their jobs. What's more, it's clear that they communicate with one another, providing person-centred care.
They have looked after my mum brilliantly. They have also looked after me and my family in a time of great worry. Thank you so much!

I have spoken with the manager on several occasions, while in other care homes, this has not happened at all!

My father spent his last few months at Oaklands and every single member of the staff has been wonderful. We have nothing but praise for the treatment my father and the family have been given.

Thank you for your very kind words, Glynis. Your father was a joy to look after and made our job so much easier with his wicked smile and sense of humour. Although he was not with us very long, he will be sadly missed.

This is our second care home for my mother and I wish we had found this care home straight away. All the staff from the carers, receptionists, nurses, cooks, cleaners to utility staff are so professional and thoughtful. They all respect the fact this is my mother's home. Their holistic care takes into consideration all of my mother's needs, which vary from day to day but also that of her family. Oaklands is bright, airy and friendly. I feel safe that mum is in kind hands which is a huge relief for all her family.

My mum has been at Oaklands for a year now. We are very grateful for all that the home has done and continues to do for her. She is professionally cared for and professionally loved. Ultimately, she is safe, and she is happy. Staff are wonderful - with us her relatives, as well as with Mum. We are so fortunate with Oaklands.

Just a few lines to express my thanks and gratitude for the love and care shown to my mother during her stay with you. Mum came to you in November and was made to feel welcome and at home by the staff. Your staff were caring, attentive and compassionate which contributed to mums final months being both comfortable and peaceful, which was a great comfort to myself and the family. I would especially like to thank the nurse who was like a son to mum, showing her love and respect. I also appreciate him and his wife attending mum's funeral to pay their last respects. Thank you all.

The staff at Oaklands here are very helpful and supportive in arranging respite care for mum at quite short notice and the process was thankfully simple. Mum benefited from the activity programme and the company of other residents while at Oaklands and particularly enjoyed being pampered by having her hair and nails done in the salon. Staff did seem rather overstretched, however, and busy on two occasions when we visited we had to wait 10 minutes before we were let into the main entrance. Overall, mum enjoyed her stay and the three weeks were a lifeline for us.

My sister moved into Oaklands in January 2022. I was very impressed with the care and thoughtfulness taken to make her feel at home. She settled in quickly and continues to be very well cared for. The staff are all extremely professional as well as being kind and thoughtful. They are always willing to discuss how my sister is getting on. The lunch I had with my sister early in her stay was simply delicious.

I feel very reassured that she is being so well looked after.

I can not praise the team at the care home enough for all that they did for my brother. Even in his last hours, they were there for me and him.
They made sure he was comfortable and spoke to him. Seeing their sadness when he passed away was so humbling. They looked after me and my partner so well, making sure we had drinks and food.
Nothing was too much trouble; they were very friendly, and the cleaning was immaculate. The food was delicious.
Special mention to the lady in charge, as without her knowledge, help and smile, I don't know how I would have coped.

This is a five-star(plus) care home.

Mum was discharged from the hospital to the Oaklands Care Home to receive palliative care.
Since her admission to Oaklands, I have nothing but praise for how they have cared for her. The staff have done everything possible to ensure that Mum remains safe, comfortable and pain-free.
The care and nursing staff in the unit are so caring and attentive and do everything they can for Mum, and I can bear witness that this level of care is extended to all residents in the unit.
My father has visited every day and has been made to feel nothing but welcome by all the staff, including those working in other units, and they all know his name. One of the carers told me that he is 'part of our family', and that does ring so true.
We have been kept fully informed by the staff at every stage of Mum's care, and both myself and my brother are so grateful and confident in the care that has been taken of our mother.

Thank you to everyone at Oaklands.

I cannot praise the nurses, carers and kitchen staff enough. My mother-in-law was part of a big very happy family and the quality of her care was second to not. Thank you all for all that you did for her and for how well she was cared for, despite the Covid-19 restrictions.

I am very happy with the care and support mum receives in her home. Things have been very difficult lately with not being able to visit due to Coronavirus but staff have kept us updated via phone/video calls. I was especially pleased with the way everyone helped mum celebrate her birthday recently, video calling and sending photo's so that we could feel part of the celebration. Thank you all.

From what I have seen the thing that stands out in Oaklands is the commitment of the staff to really try hard to maintain the high standards of care they provide. The staff always seem to be trying hard to meet the differing needs of individual people by orgnaising a range of activities as well as providing the core care.

Before Covid 19 my wife had only been in your home for a few weeks and due to the no visitor rule I have not seen her for over 3 months. This means I have not been able to answer a few of your questions.
But my wife was very pleased with the welcome and was obviously very pleased with the accommodation she received.

When times are normal I gather there are various activities arranged for the residents but I do not have any information about this.

Generally speaking, we are pleased with Oaklands. The regular permanent staff on the unit, nurses in charge, carers, receptionists, cooks, cleaners and activity coordinators are excellent and we would have liked to select more excellent ratings than we did. We have never seen senior management or owners of the home. The units are often obviously understaffed. Consequently, the carers are sometimes unable to give the care that the residents need and deserve, and this is upsetting for everyone. We have complained about his before and nothing seems to be done to rectify this. They need to listen to their staff.

I have been impressed by the space and size of rooms and the help to settle the person in. The care and friendliness of all the staff and the respect they show to the residents. During this time of not being able to visit, the use of Skype has been an important asset and they have enabled my husband to use this means of communication.
