Covid compliant entry is now routine and smooth. Prior to our visits, I choose to email confirmation of that day's negative lateral flow test results and my estimated time of arrival in good time; this helps Mum's care team plan accordingly; there is no need to book a visit in advance.
The visit is
in Mum's room where my wife and I are usually free to spend as long as we choose; we are often provided with light refreshments and can discuss any issues either with staff in the reception or with those on her floor. If there are any issues of note from the home's side, we are 'phoned at home.

Mum has been a resident at St Rita’s since October 2021, and I could not feel more comfortable and assured about Mum’s care. Despite Mums sudden needs and financial requirements for her to go into residential care, the staff have been supportive, caring and kind at every stage. I am so impressed how
everyone you meet at the home smiles and acknowledges you every time you go in, and know exactly how Mum has been during the periods we don’t see her. The managers are so supportive and helpful with advice, and every member of their team, especially the lady in charge of the Covid regulations and ongoing visiting Covid visiting requirements, are really switched on and mindful. The nursing staff are second to none, and I am genuinely delighted with everyone and everything to do with my mums care. Thank you, everyone. If Mum could speak for herself, we know she would be more than happy.

My dad became a resident at St Rita’s in the middle of February 2021. The manager was so helpful and efficient in answering my questions on the phone. She offered to meet me and walk around the grounds, but as I live in Devon, this wasn’t possible. The manager took the time to take numerous photos of
the different areas, which all looked cheery, clean and inviting. When I or any of our family phone to talk to Dad, all of the team have been friendly and helpful and answer any questions we might have. Their feedback has been excellent, which has reassured us all, because of Covid, we haven’t been able to visit. My dad has settled well, and I believe that is due to the efficiency and kindness of the staff.

Like most people, we hear some harrowing stories of some care homes, as well as seeing dreadful footage of undercover reporters working in care homes in the hope to expose how our loved ones are being treated! Well, can I put you at ease? Because hear at St Rita's, every resident is treated as an individual
with much respect and care given to each and everyone, and their wishes respected also.
To me, St Rita's is a shining example of what a care home should be like, if ever I had a need to become a resident of a care home, this place would be my first choice without hesitation.

The staff at St Rita's have been outstanding throughout my grandmother's stay in the care home. Very facilitating and willing to go out of their way to ensure our family have maintained the highest level of communication possible with our relative during the Coronavirus pandemic. The management has

The care home has exceeded my expectations on all levels from the manager down. My wife hardly knows me now, if at all, but the joy on her face and physical reaction to her carers is lovely to see. She is obviously getting the emotional support that I can no longer give her. (Covid19 restrictions) There
is a genuine rapport between the carers and my wife which gives me great comfort. On her birthday, when I visited, she was given a lovely cake by the staff who came in singing Happy Birthday.
On the practical side, my wife is now unable to care for herself but whenever I visit she is nicely dressed in matching clothes, hair done and very happy. All contacts, verbal, phone or email are responded to promptly by all members of staff. They go the extra mile to ensure a high level of care and attention to detail. They have purchased clothes for her (seeking my advice first) and even undertaken to sew in name tags. To say I am very happy with her care is an understatement!

The resident is a 95-year-old, deaf and disabled lady who couldn't get out and spent all day watching TV.
She had no relations, I have been shopping and checking on her for the last 14 years. She now enjoys activities and outings, has people to talk to most of the time, is enjoying life doing things
she never attempted before and doesn't want to return home. Well done, thank you.

My elder son and I visited 10 local care homes seeking a place for my wife.
St Rita's Care Home (Augustinian Care) has proved to be outstanding in every way.
It is like a 5-star hotel.
The only minor criticism is the food.
My wife can't eat normal food so has to have soft food.
What is served is
the same main course every day for lunch and supper.
An alternative would be welcome.

The residents are encouraged to treat the nursing home as their home. All the rooms are ensuite and the residents can do as they wish to the room to make it their own home.
The home is spotlessly clean and never smells pungent.
The staff are friendly helpful and efficient and always have time to
spend with residents or their families and always follow up requests from the resident or their family.

My mother has been at St Rita's for two months now and I can only sing the homes praise. It is clean, bright, airy, spacious and has no lingering smells. The maintenance man was/is extremely helpful. The staff all present well, are bright and cheerful and quick to accommodate my mother's needs. (She
cannot walk and needs a wheelchair). The activities provided keep her busy through the day. After each visit I still come away with a smile, pleased that she and I are both happy that she is under their care.

My name is Karen Shrimpton, I am the Home manager at St Rita's care home and have been in post since 24th February 2020.


I have worked in Health and social care for the last 26 years, 16 years of these in management of care homes - Supported living, Learning disabilities, Dementia, Residential and Acquired brain injuries.


I enjoy working with the elderly and find my role to be both rewarding and fulfilling, which in turn meets my strong values in the care sector.
