I would strongly urge families to think carefully before placing a loved one in Maple Leaf Lodge. My father, who suffers with dementia, sustained a serious head injury while in their care and was hospitalised. He was left bleeding from both the front and back of his head, suffered extensive bruising and required stitches. Even now he remains frightened and traumatised. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, we felt unsupported and shocked by the lack of urgency and compassion shown afterwards. Following the incident, my father was refused return to the home without clear explanation, leaving my elderly mother, who has severe mobility problems herself, struggling to cope. We also later discovered he had been prescribed diazepam without this being properly communicated to the family. Due to the seriousness of our concerns, the police, legal advisors and the Care Quality Commission are now involved.

The staff and management are excellent as are the bedrooms and other rooms. My only observations are other residents have access to my wife's room and it means that some items of clothing can go missing. I realise this is difficult to resolve and I don't have the answers. It is clearly not possible for room to be locked particularly on the upper secure level where keeping residents out of lifts can be challenging. More positively I can only say that the home has my utmost admiration and respect for the services provided and the dedication of all the staff and management. Thank you.

My wife has been a resident at Maple Leaf Lodge for 10 months now. Living at home with me previously was very difficult as she didn't know who I was. However, the incredible care and support by the management and staff has taken away her anxiety and she is so much happier, getting involved in activities and outings. The home is modern, clean and beautifully decorated. The atmosphere is always friendly and homely, the standard of food is always excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely care home.

It's so difficult to review a residential home that offers such wonderful care and attention to its residents. I find the staff excellent and very attentive and approachable at any time with any care needs. Maple leaf lodge is a wonderfully appointed care home, attention to detail is immaculate and the needs of residents is catered for wonderfully. When I visit my wife I am always greeted with welcoming smiles and updates of any attention my wife has needed during my absence. Activities for residents are numerous, everything from baking, painting, community singing, dancing and even off site trips to local places of interest, I feel secure in the knowledge that my wife is in the most wonderful and safe hands in the care of Maple Leaf Lodge.

My husband has been at Barchester Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home for ten weeks. You approach the building, which is a warm colour and attractive looking, from the town centre with good transportation. This is home for the residents and Maple Leaf staff work hard and enthusiastically to make it so. Staff convey an attitude of knowing which residents want to chat, those who prefer to be alone and those that enjoy a bit of banter and a laugh. From my point of view, the ladies are excellent and keep me advised as to how my husband is reacting and give me details of his health. The atmosphere between staff members makes them a team that supports each other and is always available to is for help, a chat and support.
