During the last 5 months when my stepfather lived at The Springs he was very well looked after. During his final days, the staff looked after him with such care. Their kindness and understanding made the journey more bearable and we are very grateful.

The Springs Care Home looked after my mum with great dignity and care whilst she stayed there. We were very pleased with the compassion shown to my mum and the lengths they went to, in caring for her. We are so pleased, we moved her to a sister home, to be closer to us.

Mum is doing OK thanks to the care and support of those around her. My only real concern is the lack of consistent social contact. I know she doesn't like to mix with the other residents but, she is frequently alone in her room when I arrive for a visit.

I came into visit with some clothes and collect washing. It was 10.45am. My husband was still in bed! The TV was on but he could not see it as he was horizontal and not wearing his glasses. I was told that he was asleep when they came to get him up. But that was no excuse as it would have been...
I came into visit with some clothes and collect washing. It was 10.45am. My husband was still in bed! The TV was on but he could not see it as he was horizontal and not wearing his glasses. I was told that he was asleep when they came to get him up. But that was no excuse as it would have been better for him to have breakfast in the dining room. After I made him more comfortable, the nurse came in to give his tablets. It appears I need to send 7 pairs of trousers/pyjamas as whoever washes my husband puts the daily clothes straight into the wash bag! This is not acceptable, only if they are soiled.

During my work experience week at school, I went to the ALEX (Redditch Acute Hospital) and worked on one of the wards for the week. In that week I knew I would always work within the care sector and I have ever since. I started as a care assistant within a nursing home and then became a field care manager in domiciliary care. I thoroughly loved working in a nursing home as a care assistant and knew that was the area of the care sector that I wanted to work in. However, I needed to go away and gain more experience and knowledge first so I could complete the role not only effectively but to a high standard - I completed my nurse training, working as a care assistant.
Once qualified, I made the move to the acute setting to gain more experience. During my time in the NHS, I became a sister in both urgent care and HDU. I also completed my bleep training for Worcestershire Acute Trust and regularly had the bleep over the weekends. The bleep is the clinical site lead, so I would be in charge of the clinical side of the whole of Alexandra Hospital. I enjoyed my time within the acute setting but felt I had gained the experience and knowledge I needed to form a strong base to continue my career within the primary sector and more specifically within a nursing home. I love many aspects of working within care services, but I would say one of my favourite aspects would have to be listening to other people's stories and life experiences.
In my spare time, one of my main hobbies would have to be showing my dogs, we have had the pleasure of running around the green carpets of crafts every year since I started showing. My dogs and horses take up the majority of my free time!
