My Mother has lived here in nursing care for five months and I visit twice daily, interacting with nurses, carers, support staff and management. I am very happy with the care received, nurses and carers work very to support my Mother and quickly learnt about her needs. She settled quickly after moving at a great age from her previous residential home where she had spent nearly eight years. I believe my Mother to be safe and well looked after here. Staff also treat me with a professional approach and empathy in the face or my Mother's dementia. Small improvements could be made in the consistency of her personal care, with greater attention to cleanliness of her fingernails. dentures and correct handling of hearing aids. Her mouth often has food around it all night after being washed.

My mother has been at The Springs since March 2017. Placing Mum in a home was a heart-rending decision but after care in her home failed it was the only way we could be sure that she would have 24hr attention. My sister, my husband and myself visited 7 homes in the area during one day. The Springs was the only one that seemed to offer anything near the care we required. The attitude of all the staff made us feel it was somewhere we would trust to care for Mum.

It is only since Mum has been there that we have truly valued the professionalism of those who work there. Medically they watch her like a hawk, personally, they are kind and considerate and spend time with her talking about her family. She interacts with other residents and members of the team. As children, we had a piano in the house. She is now encouraged to play the piano in the lounge. When we visit she is always smart and well dressed with clean nails and attractive hair. She is treated with dignity and kindness.

My father has been in The Springs since November 2015 in the Priory Unit after his dementia/Parkinson's became too much for mum to cope with at home. After visiting many homes, the Priory Unit at The Springs was by far the nicest place he could be. The staff are excellent, caring and attentive. We are always kept informed of my fathers progress. The whole family are so much more relaxed to know that he has 24/7 care in a safe comfortable environment. There are always activities going on and the meals are extremely tasty, we often join him for lunch.

Overall Experience

My Dad stayed in the Morgan Unit for nearly 3 months (emergency respite). I cannot praise the unit enough. All of the staff were wonderful and caring. They understood his nature. He was always someone who used to work out things, an engineer, do-it-yourself man, and they gave him things to do around this. The activities organiser was brilliant with regards to this. The staff looked after my dad as if he was their own. The food was exceptional. I'm sure he misses this where he is now. If this home was closer to where my mom lives he would be there now. Thank you, everyone. We did not have to worry when he was with you.

During my work experience week at school, I went to the ALEX (Redditch Acute Hospital) and worked on one of the wards for the week. In that week I knew I would always work within the care sector and I have ever since. I started as a care assistant within a nursing home and then became a field care manager in domiciliary care. I thoroughly loved working in a nursing home as a care assistant and knew that was the area of the care sector that I wanted to work in. However, I needed to go away and gain more experience and knowledge first so I could complete the role not only effectively but to a high standard - I completed my nurse training, working as a care assistant.

Once qualified, I made the move to the acute setting to gain more experience. During my time in the NHS, I became a sister in both urgent care and HDU. I also completed my bleep training for Worcestershire Acute Trust and regularly had the bleep over the weekends. The bleep is the clinical site lead, so I would be in charge of the clinical side of the whole of Alexandra Hospital. I enjoyed my time within the acute setting but felt I had gained the experience and knowledge I needed to form a strong base to continue my career within the primary sector and more specifically within a nursing home. I love many aspects of working within care services, but I would say one of my favourite aspects would have to be listening to other people's stories and life experiences.

In my spare time, one of my main hobbies would have to be showing my dogs, we have had the pleasure of running around the green carpets of crafts every year since I started showing. My dogs and horses take up the majority of my free time!

I have worked for Bupa for nearly 5 and a half years and have always worked in the hospitality industry.

I enjoy working in care services as every day is different here - seeing the residents enjoying their food and living a better, longer and healthier life is so rewarding.

I love spending my spare time in the garden growing all sorts of fruit, vegetables and flowers, I also enjoy watching my football team play and holidays in Spain with my wife.
