My auntie came into the home in July 2023. She loves it here, the staff are so lovely and nothing is too much trouble, they are always on hand to assist. Food is excellent, she has her hair done and the dentist comes in. I really cannot say a bad word about the home. She does arts and crafts, which
she enjoys. They also have a chiropodist that comes in, which is a godsend.

My friend has lived at Clare Court Care Home since 2017. He was on his own and had mobility issues and needed to go into care. I was involved in his move because I have Power Of Attorney. He is very happy at Clare Court. He is well-liked and the staff reciprocate that feeling. He was recently hospitalised
and as a result, now needs full nursing care. I am particularly grateful to the administrative staff for their help with the issues surrounding this change and to every one of the staff for making the transition as smooth as possible for him.

I cannot thank Clare Court enough. My family and I are so grateful for the care you have given Mom since she arrived. Mom is now in a caring, happy and safe environment. These things she was not getting in her home so we finally had to make the hardest decision we have ever had to make. It was the best
thing we have ever done. Mom is now well looked after and most of all are happy. Thank you Clare Court for all you have done, we are so grateful. The staff are wonderful, caring, kind and attentive. The management is really helpful. The reception and meet staff are amazing and informative. Thank you so much.

From a discussion with the activities coordinator, there will be lots happening over the coming months at Clare Court Care Home. There will be numerous activities for residents in which family would be more than happy to participate and contribute to all events as we see Clare Court as our new extended
family, the new home of our father. Looking forward to the summer months at Clare Court.

My mum has been a resident at Clare Court since May 2022, after a few teething issues and changes with management I'm glad to say Mum has settled and is well cared for. The family have peace of mind and have no concerns regarding her care. Adjustments have been made to my Mom’s personalise care ensuring
she is comfortable, the family are involved and kept up to date always. It can be upsetting at times; the management and staff have been excellent with Mom and nothing is too much trouble.
We appreciate the love and support they’ve shown towards Mum and the family, especially when I celebrated my 60th birthday in December, with a tea party/lunch. The room was decorated for us, it was a lovely surprise, Mum and I were queens for the day, precious memories for us all. Thanks again for making the day so special for Mum too.
The changes made by the new manager and team have been beneficial not only for the residents but to the families too. The staff should be congratulated for all their hard work.

I am really pleased with the care my mom is receiving from Clare Court Care Home. My mom always remarks about the food she receives and how her washing is returned clean and on a hanger. The staff are all friendly and polite and most of them know me by name. When we are there they pop in and say hello
and Mom gives them banter which tells me she is comfortable in her surroundings.
Thank you.

My mother is very comfortable at the home. She is fed well, her needs are adhered to, in all she is well looked after. My only concern is the hours of visiting. I know that several members of my family visit between 8.30 pm and 8.45 pm and up to six to eight at a time. This is unfair to other residents
who have settled down for the night. I feel there should be a cut of time, especially in winter with dark nights when residents may sleep earlier. Apart from that concern, I am well pleased with my mother's care.

From my experience so far (and my family’s) this care home is not the friendliest environment. Residents are left for ages alone and barely clothed. My Nan is always freezing when we arrive which shows no one is checking to see if she’s ok. Most of the staff make it difficult to book appointments and
most are very unwelcoming when we do arrive. The manager shouts at most visitors and is not approachable. Not what I would expect from a professional in the care sector. Having a background in this profession I would expect more care and professional conduct towards their residents and their visitors.
Reply from Beverley Murrain, Home Manager at Clare Court Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to review Clare Court Care Home in Birmingham. It is regret that your experience at the home hasn’t been positive. I understand you visit at weekends and therefore I have not met you. I would ask that your concerns are addressed with the nurse-on-duty on the day of your visit, so that they can be rectified as quickly as possible. You can also contact the management team during the working week. If the concerns you raise are not addressed before 5 April 2022, all visits had to be booked through our administrator and therefore staff on the floor would not have been able to book visits for you at the weekend. As of 5 April 2022, visits no longer have to be booked and relatives are free to visit the home without an appointment. Visitors are still asked to wear masks when they are in the home and follow handwashing guidance as they were previously. I am sure, moving forward we will be able to address any other concerns as they arise. Best Wishes

My mother was sent to Clare Court Care Home to recover from a broken hip. The family were informed by the care home that no one would be permitted to see her for two weeks because that was their policy. After the two week period was up, a family member visited my mother and they were very surprised
how much she had deteriorated since she went in. Two days later, sixteen days after she was first admitted to the care home, I received a phone call in the early hours of the morning, informing me that my mother had a high temperature, she wasn’t eating and should they call an ambulance? I said they should and my mother was admitted to a local hospital a couple of hours later. A consultant from the hospital spoke to the family later that morning to inform us that my mother had an infection, two very bad pressure sores and was dehydrated. He also said it was possible she was not going to survive this admission due to her poor health. Bearing in mind two weeks earlier my mother went to Clare Court for rehabilitation following a hip operation we are shocked how she has ended up in such a state. We need some answers from Clare Court Care Home.
Reply from Beverley Murrain, Home Manager at Clare Court Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your comments. After these concerns were raised in mid-July 2021, a subsequent investigation into the concerns detailed in your comments was completed and a response has been sent to the next of kin. Should you wish to discuss this further then please do not hesitate to contact the Home and request to speak to the Home Manager.

I have found the home to be 'exceptional'. My father moved into this home in February 2019 it took some time for him to settle, but the carers are kind, gentle and helpful. He is happy and they take very good care of him. The facilities are clean and he always looks well kept. Meals are freshly cooked
every day and nutritious.
His clothes are washed and cleaned everyday, it's better than being in a hotel, we couldn't ask for more. The manager and the team are friendly and make every effort to know you by your name, and immediately link you to your relative. They allow you to feel at home when you visit, and during lockdown we are kept informed of guidelines and procedures. I would highly recommend.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.432)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.432) out of 10 for Clare Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.169 for Clare Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.169
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.263 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clare Court Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.563
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
