Overall Experience

My sister has been in the home since July 2022 after a diagnosis of dementia was found. The home itself is like a five-star hotel, I've never been in a home like it, it's fantastic. The Christmas decorations in the home are fabulous and I find the staff very pleasant and approachable at any time. My sister wasn't a very good mixer around people but I've found now, she is more interactive with others and will participate in activities provided internally and externally, which is a massive improvement in her mental health. Her room is spot-on and immaculate, which is a credit to the housekeeping team. The maintenance men are always there if you need anything done in the room, i.e. if you need pictures hanging etc. Overall, I would highly recommend this home and have sent brochures to Cornwall for extended family.

Overall, I am very impressed with The Manor House. The cheerfulness and courtesy of the staff are outstanding. A clear-cut list of services on admission would be very helpful e.q a change of bed and towels, personal laundry day, times of meals etc would be appreciated.

Since coming here several years ago and regaining my health, I have come to appreciate the care and friendliness I am receiving. I am pleased we have a pleasant garden to walk in with seats provided for use - weather permitting - where I can meet and chat with other residents, as well as in the lounge and dining room.

My Dad has been in the Care Home nearly a year. He receives exceptional care and support from all of the Care Staff. It provides a real community and all staff members whether Care, Housekeeping, Maintenance etc regularly go out of their way to chat to Dad. He really enjoys the varied activities and has a good social life within the home. I would highly recommend The Manor House Barnard Castle for their caring and positive attitude.

Mum came here for two weeks of respite care. The home is very nice and welcoming and her room was lovely. Mum settled and looks very well rested and looks better than she has for ages. Visited a few times and Mum was very settled.

My Mum is 93 and has mild confusion and has poor mobility. She was living indepently until 2020 and I was worried sick about her as she kept having falls, hated carers coming into her own home and trying to organise her, she was missing medication as well. Since she has been in the Manor House, Covid permitting, I see her once a week and apart from an occasional blip in care, the key thing for me is that she is contented and her health has stabilised. She is well fed, well medicated and has her other personal needs met. The staff have been absolutely marvellous working through the pandemic. When things aren't quite right, I find the staff responsive to the issues I raise and you genuinely feel they are doing their best under extremely difficult conditions. Would I recommend The Manor House to someone else considering residential care - most definitely.

My aunt celebrated her 100th birthday in March 2021. A few family members were able to be with her via a window visit and zoom. It was lovely to see the attention given to her by members of staff, and their help when needed with opening her cards - one from the Queen of course. We saw a high level of affectionate care coupled with respect for her independence.

My sister who was terminally ill stayed for 8 days in the Bowes Unit at The Manor House.
The home is very well decorated extremely clean feeling more of a luxury hotel rather than a care home.
She had the very best of professional care while staying there and appeared to be relaxed and content.
The management and staff were always available to discuss any aspect that arose.
They showed genuine concern for my sister during an extremely difficult time at the end of her life.
I would like to thank all the staff in The Manor House for all their help and I am grateful for the kindness, also the understanding shown in those eight challenging days.

We cannot thank The Manor House enough for everything.

My Grandfather stayed here for 12weeks and received excellent care throughout.
From our first visit with the manager to when he passed away the level of service was exceptional. He was always comfortable and the communication was fantastic.
The building internally and externally were both exceptionally clean.
I would like to thank all the staff during this difficult period (covid19) for going that extra mile.
To summarise;

I would strongly recommend this care home without doubt and overall the support provided was exemplary in all areas.

I visit The Manor House in John Street, Barnard Castle twice a week with my therapy dog which gives the residents and staff great pleasure. My only thought is that there are not enough experienced staff to meet all the needs of all those in the dementia ward and with not enough activities happening to keep them busy - yes there are activities but not really enough. It is a beautifully equipped home and for those a lovely place to be with excellent dedication.

My father moved into the Manor House in late September 2019 where he lived until passing on 7th February 2020. The home is well equipped, well decorated and extremely clean. It has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and seems more like an upmarket hotel rather than a care home. The manager and her staff are first class - going over and above what one would expect.
He was treated with respect and care by everyone from the outset, despite him being somewhat difficult on occasion. The manager and staff were always available to discuss any concerns we had and consequently alleviate any of our worries. They all showed genuine concern in him and us during an extremely difficult time as his life was ending.

We cannot thank the Manor House enough!

Staff are always helpful. Some go above and beyond to help families and their residents of the home. Issues are dealt with swiftly and carefully. I feel that anytime I need to contact them for the assurance I can, no matter what and they are always looking after my Mam as a priority. Outstanding.

I have found the Manor House to be an exemplary care home with a culture of kindness and understanding that is clearly evident as soon as you walk through the door.
The Manor House has provided a very high standard of care for my Dad that I believe would be extremely hard to equal, as it is personally tailored to his individual daily needs.

I visit most days and have seen for myself the consistency of care, stimulating atmosphere and great staffing ratios; that means there’s always time for Dad and consequently, he’s very happy there on a day to day basis. The home is extremely well managed, with beautiful grounds, and a stunning interior that always impresses and is impeccably clean at all times. I would not hesitate to recommend The Manor House as they have provided a wonderful environment that has kept Dad safe, well and happy.

I live in the town with my husband Dean, our son Olly and our family dog, Rufus. In my spare time, I enjoy meeting up with my family and going abroad for a bit of sun.
