My mum had a medical issue which was brought to the attention of a staff member. An ambulance had to be called and there were several conversations with dispatch to establish the cause and nature of the problem. Throughout the whole episode, one carer, in particular, was fantastic. She stayed with mum during the wait, reassured her and kept checking medical condition. She was both kind and professional during the experience. A credit to the home. It's nice to find someone so dedicated. Big thank you from all the family.

An excellent relationship with management and staff for relatives. Overall a beautiful home, if sometimes a little understaffed. All categories "good" or better with the exception of catering which seems to be only average and which is heavily criticised in a recent residents survey. Management admits it is in need of improvement.

When it came to choosing a residential home for my mother, it was actually very simple. No other came close to the atmosphere, decor, spaciousness and friendliness of The Manor house. Eighteen months on, we continue to be impressed with the quality of care and the environment. Also the catering. My mother is very happy to call it her home and feels safe and secure in the hands of the staff.

The positives about The Manor House Barnard Castle include the friendly staff and especially the activity coordinator.

The previous manager has been replaced which has led to an improved atmosphere amongst staff. (The previous manager was often rude to me and spoke to me as though my mum was causing her a problem). Things will be better now.

Since my arrival here almost a year ago, I have received cheerful care and consideration. This has been a great help to me, as I attempted to settle into a new life, following the death of my husband last March. The staff are pleasant and helpful and there is a happy atmosphere in The Manor House.

I am generally very satisfied with the care provided for my sister, now in her 80s and suffering from dementia at the Manor House. She has lived there since 2016. The accommodation is excellent and the care is generally very good albeit (I suspect because it is difficult to find suitable staff) sometimes a bit patchy.

I am very happy here. More so than at home as I have company and friends here. The gardens are beautiful here. I have made some nice friends, the care staff are always very kind to you. Everything is very nice. I can have my hair and nails done, washing, good food, daily exercise and various exercise classes. Trips out to the theatre and local areas of interest. I also enjoy the art classes.

Debbie Wilson
Debbie WilsonJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2011

I have worked at The Manor House for 13 years. I started as a care assistant and progressed to a senior, principal senior, and now deputy manager. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work with the elderly, as I have always had a passion for care, and I especially find it very rewarding to look after people with more complex needs.

I live in the town with my husband Dean, our son Olly and our family dog, Rufus. In my spare time, I enjoy meeting up with my family and going abroad for a bit of sun.

Laura Erskine
Laura ErskineJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2013

I have worked at The Manor House for 10 years, I started as a bank care assistant and have worked my way through the ranks to become a deputy manager. I moved to Barnard Castle with my mum in 2008 from Leeds to start a new life, I have a partner named Simon and two children Ethan and Lexi-Mae. We also have a dog named Scamp. I like meeting new people, and am a very friendly outgoing person, something that helps when meeting new residents and their families when they first come to The Manor House. My ambition has always been to work with the elderly, I have a passion for supporting those living with dementia.

Michelle MiddletonJob Title:AdministratorJoined: 2020

I have worked at The Manor House for nearly 5 years as an Administrator and have 20 years of experience working in this role in different care settings. I have also previously won an award for Administrator of the Year.

I enjoy helping families from the initial enquiry/admission process right through to discharge solving any issues/problems they may have in what can be a very stressful and emotional time for all concerned.

I have 2 grown up children, my Son is a self-employed Electrician and my Daughter is an Administrator also in a care home in Durham. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time at our caravan and spending time with my Husband Leo and my dog Kevin who also visits the The Manor House on a regular basis.
