My father's stroke left him paralysed with dysphasia and nursing needs. The decision where to place him was a worry but I had heard good reports about Yew Tree. The CQC rating a few years ago gave some concern but after reading the report I found it was due to a lack of staff training and this has now been addressed.

The rooms are adequate, the corridors are wide and clear from clutter, the communal areas are bright, spacious and tidy with modern kitchen areas and the food is varied and fresh. The staff engage with residents and encourage them to join in activities if able, they also take them on short outings when possible. My father has been a resident for 4 months and I'm happy with the way he is treated and cared for. He sometimes becomes frustrated and verbally aggressive, both to family and staff, the staff have got to know him, his routine, his likes and dislikes and they deal with his outbursts extremely well. We remain confident that we made the right choice.

My mother has received dementia nursing care in the home for just over one year now. I've been visiting when I can (long journey) and I am always impressed by the staff who work here. Though mum is in the late stages of dementia and is not able to say very many words, they manage to communicate well with her, understand her sense of humour (which is amazingly still intact) and make her laugh and smile. They seem to be patient and kind in the way they look after her various needs. I'm very grateful for the affection and consideration they show as I know their work is both physically and mentally demanding. Despite often meeting resistance from mum (as she doesn't like to be moved, though it is necessary), they manage to cajole and soothe her into cooperating. The staff are also very considerate towards relatives, making them feel welcome, assisting them and taking time to discuss aspects of care. Just wanted to say a huge thank you to them for making a difficult time more bearable.

Mam is in the late stages of dementia and had been in her previous home for 4 years so it was a huge decision moving her to Yew Tree's Dementia Care Unit in December 2015. I have to say, it was the best decision I made. In just over two months the change in her is amazing. She is much more content, much more alert and using vocabulary I thought was long gone. Mam is proof that the environment along with person centred care is so very important in dementia care. A huge thank you to the very special team of staff on the Dementia Care Unit.

I have worked in the care sector for over 20 years, working my way up from care assistant, senior care assistant, Deputy manager, Home Manager, and then up to a regional manager. I have worked with different levels of care from residential to Mental Health, and have completed all the relevant training to go alongside this. I have completed my level 5 in management and enjoy being a manager, as this enables me to manage and support the team to deliver a high level of care to the service users.
