From the moment our mother moved into Acacia Lodge in mid-December 2025, we have been overwhelmed by the kindness, professionalism, and genuine compassion shown by every member of staff. From reception and administration to the carers and management, everyone has made both our mother and our family
feel supported and reassured.

The standard of care is outstanding. Staff clearly have the right knowledge, understanding, equipment, and most importantly the right attitude to meet our mother's needs. After previous experiences elsewhere, this has been a true breath of fresh air.

The home is lovely, clean, spacious, and welcoming. The positive difference in our mother's wellbeing and appearance has been remarkable, and it has been truly heartening to see her thrive. Knowing she is in such capable and caring environment has allowed us to rest easy as a family. The care provided at Acacia Lodge has been exceptional, and the difference it has made cannot be overstated

My mum is a relatively new resident at Acacia Lodge. She was admitted 7/10/2025 before needing residential care, mum spent 6 weeks in hospital after suffering with gastroenteritis and a fall.
I visited many care home, majority of which were in the Oldham area. By chance I decided to visit Acacia Lodge,
the customer services advisor took the time to explain all the ins and outs of navigating the move into residential care. She guided me through the complex system, helping alleviate the stress and upset of the difficult decision I've had to make.
Once mum had been offered a place at Acacia Lodge the accountant was also a great help. She guided me though the financial requirements with empathy and patience. Having to put a loved one into residential care is very difficult and stressful time, but the team at Acacia Lodge helped lighten the load.
Mum has now been at Acacia Lodge for approximately 5 weeks. She has settled in very well.
My only complaint is with communication, as explained above, Mum does not have any complex needs or medical issues, but functions better with a purpose to the day. She needs to be occupied/busy, even if its helping the carers with their duties. She needs stimulation all the time and it would benefit everyone involved with her care to know what ticks her boxes.
Once mums property is sold, she will be personally funding her care at Acacia Lodge. I have found that the weekly charges are VERY HIGH in comparison to other care homes of a similar standard.
Mum has settled very well at Acacia Lodge and moving her to another care home may be detrimental to her health and wellbeing. Ideally I would prefer her to stay at Acacia Lodge , but I may have to look elsewhere. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the charges to see if a reduction can be agreed.
Reply from Collette Gardiner, Manager at Acacia Lodge Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to share your experience regarding your mum's recent move to Acacia Lodge. We truly appreciate your kind words about our team and the support provided during what we understand is a very challenging and emotional time. It's wonderful to hear that your mum has settled in well and that our staff were able to make the transition smoother for you both.
We also appreciate your constructive feedback regarding communication and the need for more purposeful activities for your mum. Keeping residents engaged and stimulated is a priority for us, and your insights will help us tailor her care plan to better meet her individual needs. We will ensure the team is fully aware of what motivates and interests her so that she feels fulfilled and valued each day.
Regarding your concerns about fees, we completely understand that this is an important consideration. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you in more detail.

My mum had to go into residential care. We viewed Arcacia lodge, greeted by Sharon who made us feel at ease straightaway, as did Collete and the staff we met on looking around. My sister and I were obviously apprehensive about mum going into care, she's been in Acacia Lodge for just over three weeks,
has made friends, says all the staff are wonderful and she's extremely happy. My sister and I are so happy with all the staff from admin, carers, housekeeping and Chef's can't thank you all enough for making mums transition so easy . We would have no hesitation recommending anyone who is thinking of their loved ones needing a care home Arcacia Lodge is wonderful.

My mum has been bed bound for the last two months. I cannot thank the staff enough for the wonderful care she received. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff always ensure that mum is comfortable and clean and that she receives her medication. Mum always has music on to listen to or the TV to watch.
Brilliant, caring staff who always go above and beyond. Residents are treated with dignity at all times, and their individual needs are met by the care staff who know them all so well.

Huge safeguarding concerns in this 'care' home. I am undergoing a section 42 safeguarding investigation for my husband who was seriously let down whilst in respite. He had a fall of which I was given different accounts of. His care plan was completely disregarded. He is virtually none verbal and his
call button was missing on ocassions, he could not call for help. His medication went missing. We have heard of other acts of neglegence but families have been too distressed to report to the CQC. Please do not be taken in with the promise of a wonderful stay and the lovely surroundings as the care which is the most important thing fails dreadfully. Training and commumication is severley lacking. It appears every resident is treated and spoken to as if they have dementia. They lack in knowledge of other conditions. My husband has PSP and is a fall and choke risk and was put at risk many times. Please avoid as the distress our family have gone through is unbearable.
Reply from Collette Gardiner, Manager at Acacia Lodge Care Home - Avery HealthcareWe are very sorry to hear about your experience and the distress this situation has caused you and your husband. We are also sorry that your second respite stay with us was not satisfactory and did not meet the high standards of care we aim to provide. The concerns you have raised are extremely serious, and we fully appreciate how upsetting this must have been for you and your family.

We take all safeguarding matters and feedback about our care provision with the utmost seriousness. We understand that a safeguarding investigation is in progress and are cooperating fully with the local authority and other relevant agencies to ensure every aspect is thoroughly reviewed.

While we are unable to comment publicly on individual cases, please be assured that we are committed to learning from every concern raised. We continually review our training, communication, and care practices to ensure that the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every resident remain our highest priority.

Since my dad has been in Acacia Lodge, he has had a really positive experience. All staff go above and beyond in their varied roles, this is from management to facilities.
Visitors and families are also made to feel part of my dad's care.
The activities that take place are really enjoyable and all
residents are encouraged to engage, which is lovely to see.
I would like to thank each and every member of staff who takes good care of my dad.

I feel that the standards have dropped over the years.
The mattresses are worn out, the bedding is just passable.
Every time I visit I find no towels in the ensuite, and the room is not very clean. On one occasion I found no towels, no bulb in the bedside lamp, and the perspex cover missing off the
clock.
On more than a few occasions I have found the bed was not made at 6:30pm, sometimes no bedding in the room.
The kitchen area is not kept as clean as should be, with dirty pots with food on, and the bin full with no lid on, and some food under the tables.
Reply from Collette Gardiner, Home Manager at Acacia Lodge Care Home - Avery HealthcareDear Harry, Thank you for your feedback on your recent visit to Acacia Lodge. We apologise for not meeting your expectations and appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention. Replacements for the mattress and bedding have been ordered but are delayed. We will prioritise their replacement upon arrival. We apologise for the cleanliness issues with the room and amenities. We have a number of new housekeepers who have joined the team and are settling into the role. We ensure thorough kitchen clean-up after meal service, but any issues will be addressed immediately. As the manager, I am overseeing these matters personally. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and discuss your concerns. Kind regards, Manager, Acacia Lodge

I visit my mum at least twice a week, and every visit is a pleasant experience and confirms my belief that all the staff caring for Mum (including other staff and management) have the care of the residents uppermost in their minds. I am comforted by the staff knowing my mum, which is clear to me when
I speak to the carers, senior carers and others (including reception); they find time to get to know the residents. I can't praise them highly enough. I know Mum is cared for and safe in their hands.

My mother had 30 days to move from her previous home as it was closing. When we came across Acacia Lodge we knew it was where Mum needed to be and wished she was there already. The level of professionalism is outstanding.
Mum had settling in issues but the care and again professionalism of the nurses
have worked out the best approach for Mum’s personal issues. Other than her ‘bad day’ due to the Alzheimer’s Mum has definitely come on in leaps and bounds and is mixing in the common room (never seen at the previous place).
We can’t say thank you enough and for everyone’s hard work, a huge thank you.

First of all walking in you could tell you were entering a first-class place. I was sat with my mam at the main window watching the world go by, by then it was dinner time, all set out and all ready. 2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.492 for Acacia Lodge Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (128 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 177 Ratings = 4.492
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acacia Lodge Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
