  • Tunbridge Wells Care Centre, Tunbridge Wells
Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is located in a pleasant residential area of Royal Tunbridge Wells. It offers person-centred nursing, dementia and palliative care, plus all the facilities required to provide maximum comfort for residents.

First impressions are important and when residents enter the chandelier-lit reception area with its airy double-height atrium, they get a strong sense of the quality of the accommodation and lifestyle they will enjoy here. And a warm welcome from the receptionist is typical of the homely environment residents and their families can expect when they join the 'family'.

It is the culture of kindness, respect and consideration that sets Tunbridge Wells Care Centre apart, and staff aim to make residents feel completely comfortable and at home, whatever level of care is needed.

The home offers accommodation for 70 residents in bright, spacious and well-furnished rooms with ensuite facilities spread over three floors. There is lift access throughout, and all areas, including the garden, are wheelchair accessible.

Nursing and care staff are on hand 24/7 on each floor, and they are supported by the domestic team via daily cleaning, laundry and housekeeping services, as well as the administration, facilities, activities and catering teams.

The spacious lounges on each floor are comfortably furnished and equipped with TVs, games and books. These communal areas provide relaxed and intimate spaces where residents can socialise with guests or other residents, and bigger areas where activities take place. The dedicated hair salon provides on-site hairdressing services and is popular with residents.

The large, landscaped garden is a pleasant and comfortable space for activities, socialising or watching the home’s resident ducks at play on a pleasant day!

On fine days, it's the perfect place for a cup of tea and some freshly baked pastries.

My dad has been in the home since 3rd August; he has received excellent care, and the staff are all very helpful, friendly and professional.
The home is kept very clean, and his washing is undertaken on a daily basis.
Dad is showered daily and always looks presentable when we visit.
Reply from Donna Barks, Home Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreThank you for a lovely review, the team here work extremely hard to maintain the high standards and cleanliness throughout the home. The care staff enjoy their roles and this shows in the care they provide for each and every resident.

My mum is in very good hands in this care home. The carers are very polite, charming and very professional. They have lots of stimulating activities, someone comes in once a month and plays live music (all the old classics) and you'd be surprised how many get singing along. A wonderful site to see.
It was my mum's birthday in June and we as a family had a 'quiet room' to have a small celebration, unbeknown to us the kitchen had cooked Mum a beautiful birthday cake and some of the carers bought it in singing 'Happy Birthday'! That meant a lot to Mum and to us. All of their care is logged and you can access it through a portal. As a family, we are all extremely happy with the care Mum/wife is receiving and wouldn't want Mum to be cared for anywhere else.
Reply from Donna Barks, Home Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreThank you for such a lovely review, we all love a Birthday here, any chance to sing and eat cake. I am glad you are finding the communication portal useful, as it's documented in 'real' time you are able to see what your loved one is doing at any time during the day or night.

I visited my uncle on the 25th of June. Excellent reception, so helpful. The home was immaculate, his room was cool and airy on such a hot day. The staff were courteous and could not do enough. Wonderful domestic staff, have time for the guests and residents. The food was beautifully presented and the
soup was great. Thank you.

Always friendly and helpful staff. Room and bed always clean, sister well cared for and we know in very safe hands. Sadly I always find underwear in her drawers that doesn’t belong to her, I expect this can sometimes be difficult.
Reply from Donna Barks, Home Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreThank you for this review, our housekeeping team works hard to keep the home clean and tidy. I'm sorry you have found incorrect clothes in the room, we try and ensure all clothing is labelled and have a machine in the home to do this, if you have any clothes that require labelling, we can do this for you.

As a family, we remain so grateful to all the staff working at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre.
Our relative continues to receive outstanding care from the staff, at all levels. We know that our relative is safe and happy and that his needs are being extremely well managed.
The home is always spotlessly
clean and fresh and the staff are always warm and welcoming.
Our relative is happy and enjoys living at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre. He has come more and more out of his shell, which is a joy for us to witness.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Tunbridge Wells Care Centre, who are also fortunate to have an excellent GP attending to the residents.

I am very happy with the care staff, nursing staff and the activities ladies. They are always very caring and happy and nothing is too much trouble. They always have time to listen. I am always kept informed about anything to do with my mum's well-being. The activities ladies are wonderful. They encourage
Mum to get involved even though sometimes she doesn't want to! Keep up your wonderful work.

This was a wonderful safe haven for my mother who was disabled and suffered dementia through Covid, she was normally a very independent woman who took herself out daily until Covid struck then she really struggled and it was dangerous living alone. She loved the centre, especially the company from staff
and patients. I just wish she had longer there, unfortunately, she has passed away but I can only say a big thank you for giving her pleasure in her final months.
Reply from Debbie Inkersole, Operations Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreDear Marian, thank you very much for your review. She is very much missed by staff and other residents. We would like to offer you and your family our sincere condolences and our very best wishes for the future.

I have been visiting my sister-in-law for the past six/seven years and in all that time I have never had cause to complain about the treatment my relation has received or any ill-treatment along the way. When I call on her - normally once a week - I always find her clean, comfortable and at ease with
her surroundings. The staff on her floor change from time to time, however, kindness and patient understanding never fail to be of the highest order. It is necessary with her problems to be monitored round the clock, night and day - in all honesty, I can think of no other place where she would get any more personal attention. Well done.

My mother has been in the care home with vascular dementia for four years and my father has recently joined her with Lewy body dementia. They have both received excellent care. The nursing staff are knowledgeable of their illnesses and provide care tailored to their needs. They keep us up to date with
changes to their condition and care needs and are often able to guide us as to how we can best support our loved ones.
The care staff are great with some long standing members of staff, providing continuity for my parents.
Tunbridge Wells Care Centre have a lovely activities team and the staff get as many involved as possible.
I am a regular visitor and in the last four years there have been no areas of concern to my parents or other residence I have witnessed. They listen to family members and implement changes.
Many other homes would not take my mum four years ago as she had sundown syndrome too and was mobile and agitated. I am so glad they welcomed my mother as I’m sure this is the best place for her. Thanks.

There is always a wonderful peaceful air of calm in the home. My father has dementia, and he is always treated with respect, dignity and above all kindness. All the staff are gentle, caring and considerate of all his needs. There are always lovely activities on offer, and although my father is unable
to take full advantage due to his lack of cognitive ability, they always try to include him if they feel it will benefit him. The food is varied and excellent. The rooms are spacious, light and very well furnished. I have nothing but praise for all the staff who are friendly, cheerful, thoughtful and considerate. We had moved my mother and father in to live with us, and sadly, my father's needs are more than we could manage at home, and Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is genuinely the best alternative. I cannot thank the staff enough for all they do.

I don't think the words have been invented yet to say just how wonderful the staff are. My mum came with very complex issues, but they were simply amazing with her, kind, patient, loving and so caring. Once she settled, she was the most contented; she had been for many months and always well dressed,
clean and smelt lovely. I will never forget the day I went to visit, and she had been to the hairdresser, the first time for well over a year (thanks to Covid) she looked so beautiful; it bought tears to my eyes. Someone had taken the trouble to organise this, and it meant everything to me, and I will always remember her this way.
Mum passed away in May, but she and I were treated with respect and dignity right up until the end.
Reply from Debbie Inkersole, Operations Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreDear Elaine, many thanks for your kind words, which are most appreciated by all of us here at the home. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.810)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.810) out of 10 for Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.810 for Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (261 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 310 Ratings = 4.81
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
