Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is located in a pleasant residential area of Royal Tunbridge Wells. It offers person-centred nursing, dementia and palliative care, plus all the facilities required to provide maximum comfort for residents.

First impressions are important and when residents enter the chandelier-lit reception area with its airy double-height atrium, they get a strong sense of the quality of the accommodation and lifestyle they will enjoy here. And a warm welcome from the receptionist is typical of the homely environment residents and their families can expect when they join the 'family'.

It is the culture of kindness, respect and consideration that sets Tunbridge Wells Care Centre apart, and staff aim to make residents feel completely comfortable and at home, whatever level of care is needed.

The home offers accommodation for 70 residents in bright, spacious and well-furnished rooms with ensuite facilities spread over three floors. There is lift access throughout, and all areas, including the garden, are wheelchair accessible.

Nursing and care staff are on hand 24/7 on each floor, and they are supported by the domestic team via daily cleaning, laundry and housekeeping services, as well as the administration, facilities, activities and catering teams.

The spacious lounges on each floor are comfortably furnished and equipped with TVs, games and books. These communal areas provide relaxed and intimate spaces where residents can socialise with guests or other residents, and bigger areas where activities take place. The dedicated hair salon provides on-site hairdressing services and is popular with residents.

The large, landscaped garden is a pleasant and comfortable space for activities, socialising or watching the home’s resident ducks at play on a pleasant day!

On fine days, it's the perfect place for a cup of tea and some freshly baked pastries.

I could not have wished for a better place for my mother to spend her final months. There is no doubt in my mind that her care was second to none. She was treated with dignity and encouraged to participate in the myriad of activities on offer. The rooms are spacious with ensuite facilities, ensuring
privacy. This is a very well managed home, which became my mother's home.
Reply from Debbie Inkersole, Operations Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreDear Louise, thank you so much for your heartfelt feedback and comments, which mean such a lot to the team. We are very grateful that you chose our home for your relative’s care. She was such a lovely person, and it was our pleasure to welcome her to our family and look after her. As you can imagine, we miss her very much. Please accept, once again, our condolences on your loss.

The staff I have spoken to have been very kind and are ready to listen. It has been difficult at the moment, with covid but people have been allowed in, so I am grateful. I really am pleased with the way they have looked after my sister. It is all so difficult.

My mother came to stay at the care centre for the end of her life. The staff have been very supportive and helpful. Unfortunately, because of Covid isolation, this has meant that a lot of the staff are agency carers, but again they are helpful. The staff are always obliging if I want my mother hoisted
into a chair so that she can get 10 minutes of fresh air.

I have nothing but praise for the management and nursing staff of this care home. As well as my sister-in-law, the staff also looked after my brother for the last 6 months of his life. He told me that they were the happiest six months since his wife was admitted to hospital (and then this care home)
which was 5 years ago. The staff have always been, friendly, kind and understanding - I can't thank them enough.
Reply from Theresa Steed, Registered Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreDear Philip, thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review of our home. We have an amazing team that work hard to provide the best care and support for residents and their families. So it really is pleasing to receive such positive and encouraging feedback. Your relative is such a pleasure to look after and is very much loved here at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre. We look forward to seeing you and your family again when you next visit.

My dear mother was a resident in the care home and often complained about the food being cold. It wasn’t until I stayed with her that I realised the carers fed the staff in the dining area first, then residents in the room and last the residents who could feed themselves. The care staff failed to see
my mother was suffering from seizures and delirium after a fall in the care home, sustaining a nasty head injury. Most staff were kind but there were a few who were very nasty to my mother. The GP at the home gave my mother two weeks to live in August 21, they would only let us stay overnight for one night only. This care home refused entry during most of 2020/2021 and went over and above the guidance set out by public health England. There was no consideration given to the mental health and well-being of the residents at all during Covid, yet they relied heavily on agency staff working in numerous care homes who could come and go as they pleased but family could not!
Reply from Theresa Steed, Registered Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreHi Steve, we are disappointed to hear that you are unhappy with elements of your mother’s care. As a determinedly independent lady, she preferred not to seek assistance. Immediately after her fall she went to hospital and had several scans plus independent GP care for this and her seizures. We did everything possible to ensure her safety and wellbeing. Her food was always checked with a temperature probe. Whilst the pandemic made things difficult, great consideration was given to our residents’ mental health and morale via a wide range of activities and, more importantly helping them maintain regular communications with their loved ones. Whilst agency staff were used, we were limited to those who worked solely for TWCC. We worked hard throughout to facilitate family visits as soon as we were allowed to do so safely by the government. The exception to visiting restrictions are that families of residents who are at end of life can visit and stay whenever they wish, as many have done.

Generally care is good although sometimes there is a lack of carers around if you need to speak to someone as they are dealing with other residents. There are consistently mistakes in the care notes which make these a waste of time as, if someone actually reviewed these they would realise there are
numerous errors, or the sentences do not make sense or contradict the previous sentence. Have raised this issue many times but there has been no overall improvement since the electronic notes were introduced. Some days it is obvious that the notes on my relative's record do not relate to him. Also sometimes when you speak to the carers what they actually say contradicts what the notes state. Very frustrating as these should be a true record of what is happening, but are far from this. The activities team is great and they provide varied schedules to keep the residents entertained.
Reply from Theresa Steed, Home Manager at Tunbridge Wells Care CentreCarol, many thanks for taking the time to leave this review and raise these issues, especially around the quality and accuracy of the electronic care notes. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these errors and will look urgently at what can be done to improve this process. However, we are pleased that you feel that the care is good overall and that our wellbeing activities are varied and entertaining. We are also happy to meet with you to discuss in more detail.

My Mother has been a resident at the care centre for over 11 months. The level of care and nursing is of a good standard and I feel she is safe and well looked after. The staff and management always attend to queries and requests and are friendly. The room is of a good standard and is kept clean. Regular
GP doctor visits to the home are also welcomed. Their response to the Covid 19 situation has been very professional.

My wife and I have had the experience of three separate care homes (for my mother-in-law, two friends and now two different care homes for my cousin) during her twenty years of need due to Parkinson's disease. As you can see from the box answered, the standard of care is excellent in every aspect; not
just the physical, but the personal, emotional, psychological support given. The care continuum is greater than the sum total of its parts embracing a holistic approach. The moment you enter the home, you sense the friendliness of staff and pride in what they do. Attention to personal detail is immaculate. Nothing would seem too much trouble, and the relationship between staff and patient is that of a family. We cannot recommend Tunbridge Wells Care Centre more highly. If ever you want a further personal recommendation, I would be more than pleased to oblige. We hope you are well - carry on the good work, and in an odd way, we shall miss our trips to Tunbridge Wells visiting the home!

When I arrive I am always made welcome. I'm told to put on gloves, apron, masks, then allowed up to mum's room. I have been allowed to come every day at 4.30 to assist mum to eat, it is not easy she can be very difficult. The staff pop in to see if things are well. They answer any questions I may have
and tell me how she has been during the day, sometimes good, sometimes not so I could not have found a better home for mum. Thank you.

My father was admitted to Pembury for a fall (3rd time) and due to his frail body and two T.I.A's social serviced wanted dad to be assessed. Even though I desperately wanted dad in his own home town Tunbridge Wells Care Centre have been amazing, the care, interactions with dad and family. The centre
has everything and is clean and extremely professional.

My mother was transferred to Tunbridge Wells Care Centre from Tunbridge Wells Hospital upon discharge having suffered a life-changing Acute Stroke.
She remained at the care centre for her last 4 months.
In that 4 months, I saw professional, competent, compassionate, respectful nursing care carried
out to a very high standard by supportive, dedicated, committed, caring staff, and community support services working in partnership to provide the best possible care, maintaining dignity at all times and continuing to encompassing a friendly, happy, environment.
Although my mum struggled to communicate her needs, I believe the staff did everything they could to make her comfortable and to find ways to communicate with her.
As a relative I found the staff of all grades to be approachable, transparent, informative and reassuring.

Being a nurse myself I find the care and attitude of Tunbridge Wells Care Centre to be nothing short of exemplary.

As a family, we came to realise how fortunate we were that my Mum was able to spend the last 4 months of her life in such a peaceful, calm, loving and supportive home environment. All of her individual needs were met with compassion, professionalism and medical expertise from day 1. A diagnosis of
Dementia can result in the bereavement process beginning very early on and as a family, our needs were also met by all staff, in particular, the strong leadership team who were excellent role models, knowing and caring for each resident, family members and their needs.
Daily greetings from everyone, a beautiful garden to sit in, welcoming dining rooms, personal care organised and provided, for example, visits to the Hairdresser in the Home and the Chiropodist enabled my Mum to enjoy her life as much as she was able to. A very sad time for us as a family but we felt very well supported and as a result were able to have a better understanding of the preparations we had to make.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.810)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.810) out of 10 for Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.810 for Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (261 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 310 Ratings = 4.81
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tunbridge Wells Care Centre is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
